With winter just around the corner now is the time for your longer term crops to start going in. Things to look at planting range from Garlic, carrots, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, Swiss chard, onions, Turnips, radishes, herbs and leafy greens. All do really well in cooler temperatures and give you a nice crop throughout winter months. Give us a shout for your own winter vegetable box.

WATERING IS A MUST
With these crazy hot days our crops are begging for more water and here is why watering is a must:

A lack of water can have major impacts on plants, even if it is just for a few days.
Plants draw nutrients in through their roots and move the nutrients through the plant in a water solution.
A lack of water also means a lack of nutrients.

Serviced Vegetable Boxes:
A busy day out yesterday servicing clients boxes and setting up new ones.

This is what you can expect from our new box setups. This client has chosen a basic everyday crop selection of:
Tomatoes, Capsicum, Swiss Chard, Parsley, Spring Onion, Onion, Carrots, Baby Spinach, Lettuce,Kale, Broccoli, Beetroot and Garlic.
(NB: This is for 2 boxes)

Wild Rocket (Arugula) and Parmesan Salad

Ingredients:
2 (5 ounce) packages arugula
¼ cup roughly chopped cilantro
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 pinch ground black pepper
¼ cup shaved Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS:

1. Toss arugula and cilantro together in a large salad bowl. Drizzle arugula mixture with lemon juice, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes and black pepper; toss salad again. If desired, add more lemon juice, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, red pepper flakes, and black pepper to taste.
2. Sprinkle salad with Parmesan cheese shavings and toss again to serve.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Double the salad dressing
- Make the salad dressing several hrs before serving
- Add sliced Almonds or Walnuts for an extra crunch
- If you don’t enjoy hot foods half or leave out the pepper flakes
- Great with a Pizza or Salmon

WILD ROCKET
One of our Leafy vegetable choices. Here’s a little more info when choosing this veg for your garden:
“A flowering plant in the mustard family known by the common names wild rocket and perennial wall-rocket.

Young Wild Rocket leaves are said to be a good tonic and are used in cough medicine and are also described them being used as a good digestive aid. S mall leaves tend to have a sweet, but nutty, mild taste; while the older ones can be very spicy, slightly bitter and peppery.”

Lettuces are a great addition to your vegetable box. They can be regrown and you only take what you need.
