We always start with short distance to help the puppies be successful but once they get the idea you can add distance fairly quickly. With an extra person you can play โpuppy ping pongโ, going back and forth.
If you have an older dog who tests their recall, this exercise can be super helpful although we would recommend using a long line to prevent errors.

๐ช By building commitment to the lure by luring your dog/puppy ๐ข๐ณ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฅ, ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ different things, you can better prepare them for training using this technique as well as build confidence in new environments or with new surfaces.
๐ In week 2 we will be using the lure to create behaviours we want to train. But week 1 is all about having fun and ensuring easy wins!

Sunni and Rhu met recently for the first time. During the session the girls had an opportunity to get to know each other better through play, below is a short clip from the session.
Sunni has just turned one year old, Rhu is almost 10 months. Both young dogs made good choices during their interaction with each other ๐ and it was great to see Sunni build her confidence in play ๐
Prior to play we practiced on leash recalls, and also practiced recalling out of play. Pleased to report that Sunni smashed it!! We love seeing all our clientโs hard work paying off ๐

A reliable off leash recall is something many dog owners aspire to but is something that often isnโt developed to the point it needs to be in order to really rely on it.
Zeus practices recalls in various contexts every week with us. He has been earning more freedom gradually by showing us he can reliably respond to his cues when asked.
