Here are some tips for caring for your dog during hot weather and when they are in heat:

Hydration

Make sure your dog has access to plenty of clean, fresh water. You can use two large bowls in case one is knocked over.

Cooling

Use a cooling collar or vest, cooling mat, or ice packs to help keep your dog cool. You can also try a paddling pool or a fan.

Exercise

Walk your dog at cooler times of the day, and avoid strenuous physical activities. A short walk or a non-strenuous game of fetch can help.

Rest

Let your dog rest.

Heatstroke

If your dog shows signs of heatstroke, remove them from the hot environment immediately. Apply cool water to their skin and fur, and use a fan to help them lose heat. Take your dog to the vet immediately

Recently our Great Grand Sire Sabre(Border River Chokolat Hersey) was given a diagnosis of Prostate Cancer and Lung cancer.

He has also been battling an unknown reoccurrening fluid mass impacting his throat.

Today the decision to desex him and redrain the mass was made. He is home now recovering well but I’m sure he is unsure which end is more uncomfortable.

After nearly losing him to the the unknown mass becoming infected after aspiration from the vet, Sepsis set in.

We counted every moment as the surgery didn’t go well. His Junglar vein was intertwined with the mass and it had form separate pockets of infection.

He survived the surgery but unfortunately the mass returned 2 months later. Which the vets have hopefully successfully drained today.

Quality of Life is our main focus as he has been a pivotal part of our breeding program as we currently have a 4th generation of his in our current litters.

Loving life at 11 years old.
