This week has been a hard one ♥️

When we started on our breeding journey, we knew we wanted to be as transparent as possible with our community. That means not only sharing our highs but also our lows.

On the 13th, Ruby went in for an ultrasound that we were hoping would confirm her 4-week pregnancy. Dog pregnancies are incredibly short—just 9 weeks and while this test is the earliest official confirmation, we usually notice certain signs much earlier.

To us, Ruby had these signs. She was being more clingy and trying to sneak a few more snacks than usual. However, the ultrasound revealed she doesn’t have any pups on board.

Over the past few days, we’ve visited various specialists to ensure Ruby is in perfect health, and the good news is that she is. We think her “symptoms” were likely a mix of hormonal changes and her clever way of scoring extra treats from us.

To all our Mini Groodle families, we know this news may feel disappointing. But we promise—when the time comes, these pups will be absolutely worth the wait.

According to a Guide Dogs UK study, dogs actually have a favourite Christmas song!

The study found that music had a positive effect on around 90% of dogs - some found it energising, while others calming. But what were their favourites? There were three standouts:

We are a big family … between Clint & myself we have 9 children (don’t worry they don’t all live at home 😅), 2 Groodles, 2 cats, a fur grandbaby, some fish and every so often a handful of puppies.

For us, family life is filled with a little bit of chaos and a lot of love - and that’s exactly how we like it!

We wholeheartedly believe this is what makes our puppies so adaptable, social & well-rounded ♥️

Have you ever seen a pup more ready for Summer than Milo? 😅

It’s officially the first day of Summer here in Australia and if Spring was anything to go off, it’s going to be a hot one! Here are few helpful tips to keep your pup cool:

💧 Keep Them Hydrated: Always have fresh water on hand - we’d recommend buying in a portable dog bowl.

🐾 Paw Protection: Hot footpaths and sand can burn paws. Try walking your dog early morning or late evening, and remember the “5-second rule” — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

✂️ Groom for the Heat: Regular brushing can help your pup’s coat breathe. For breeds with thicker coats, a summer trim can help keep them comfy.

🌊 Water Play: Whether it’s at the beach, river, or even a backyard sprinkler, water play is a great way to cool down … just make sure your pup has a shaded spot to retreat to when they’re done playing!

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heatstroke: Heavy panting, drooling, or wobbliness are red flags. Take your dog into the shade, cool them down ASAP & if in doubt, call your vet.

Here are 5 things we’ve learnt since owning Groodles 🐾

1. Groodles can be completely non-shedding, it just depends on their DNA … neither of our girls’ shed 🪮
2. Early socialisation will make a BIG difference in your dog’s temperament - make sure your breeder does this 🐶
3. Groodles are super gentle with kids, making them the perfect family dog 🏡
4. Breeders can avoid most health issues with proper genetic testing & responsible breeding 🩺
5. Groodles form unbelievably strong bonds with their people ♥️

Our next litter of Groodles will NOT shed. How do we know this?

Groodles are known for their low to non-shedding coats, but this depends largely on their furnishings—the genes responsible for their signature fluffy, teddy bear-like appearance 🧸

Both parents of our upcoming Mini Groodle litter are double-furnished, meaning they carry the strongest furnishing genes. This guarantees that all their puppies will have non-shedding, teddy bear coats!

We’re expecting a beautiful mix of coat types:�

We said goodbye to Minnie this week as she settled in with her beautiful Guardian Family 🏡

Guardians are an important part of our program, providing our future breeding pups with unconditional love and their forever homes.

These families help us prioritise our dogs’ health & happiness while continuing to spread the joy of this gorgeous breed.

Only dog owners will truly understand how difficult this photo was to get 😅

We often get asked how big Groodles will grow … and the answer is, it depends on what type they are.

🐾 Chili (left) is our beautiful 18-month-old Standard Groodle. She’s fully grown now, weighing in at 26kg.

🐾 Ruby (middle) is 2 years old and our Medium Groodle. In our opinion, she’s the perfect size at 16kg.

🐾 Minnie (right), as her name suggests, is a Mini Groodle! She’s still got a little growing to do, but we expect her to max out around 12kg.

We currently have a Mini & Medium litters planned for 2025 - if you’re looking at expanding your family, we’d love to chat ♥️

Groodles come in a variety of shapes and sizes. When choosing the right pup for you, consider your living space and lifestyle.

🧸 Mini Groodles are little bundles of joy that grow to weigh between 7-14 kg, making them ideal for families with young children or those living in apartments. Don’t let their size fool you; they often have big personalities!

🐾 Medium Groodles are the perfect balance! Weighing between 14-23 kg, Medium Groodles are energetic yet cuddly companions, fitting seamlessly into a variety of families.

🐶 Standard Groodles are the gentle giants of the Groodle family! Typically weighing between 23-41 kg, they love to play and thrive in homes with spacious backyards. But don’t worry, they’re also big teddy bears who enjoy cozy couch time with their humans.

Doodle breeders tend to get a bad rap online … and while we agree some might deserve it - not all breeders are the same. Here are three things we do that are different.

♥️ Focus on health.

It is impossible to know if a dog will develop certain conditions in their lifetime. However, selective breeding gives our puppies the best chance of a clean bill of health.

To be a part of our breeding program, our dogs must undergo a number of third-party tests, including DNA checks, hip and elbow scoring, and temperament evaluations. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard and Aunty Chili is an example of this. Although her results were “passable” based on an industry-standard, we decided she wouldn’t be having any puppies.

🏠 Prioritise happiness.

We think all dogs deserve the stability of a forever home and that’s why guardianship is such an important part of our program. Guardians welcome our gorgeous Groodles into their homes as puppies, providing them with unconditional love and sharing them with us for only a few breeding cycles.

This practice helps us prioritise the happiness of all our dogs and means we will always be Ruby & Chili’s forever home!

✅ Breed to a standard.

Breeding can get messy when there is no ‘standard’ to adhere to (this is a guide on what a breed should look like as well as their ideal temperament). As a mixed breed, Groodles don’t currently have a recognised standard, but we are working with other reputable breeders to create one. While controversial, breed standards have to start somewhere.
