The Groodle Guide - Part 2: Grooming & Coat Care Reality
Let’s be real - Groodle coats are gorgeous, but they’re not low-maintenance.
They might not shed much (or at all), but that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook. Whether your Groodle looks like a fluffy cloud or a shaggy teddy bear, that coat takes commitment.
Here’s what you’re working with:
🌀 Curly (wool) coats: More Poodle-like - non to super low-shedding, but they mat fast. Think daily brushing and regular trims.
🌊 Wavy (fleece) coats: The “classic Groodle look.” Soft, non-to-low-shedding, and gorgeous - but still needs brushing a few times a week to stay mat-free.
🍯 Straighter (smooth) coats: Easier to brush and shed a bit more, but don’t get complacent - they still need consistent care.
Now for the honest part - here’s what we’ve learned owning Groodles:
1️⃣ Professional grooming every 6–8 weeks is a must.
2️⃣ You’ll probably spend more on their grooming than your own - expect $90–$150 per visit.
3️⃣ Brushing at home is non-negotiable. Miss a few days and mats will form, especially behind the ears and under the arms.
4️⃣ And technique matters! Always brush right down to the base of the coat - not just the surface. (Comment a 🎀 if you want us to send you a video on how to do it properly.)
This isn’t to scare you off - just to be real.
A neglected coat isn’t just messy, it’s painful. But when you stay on top of it? You’ll have the softest and happiest Groodle around.
If you love the look, just be ready for the work (or budget for a great groomer). If you ask us, it's 100% worth it ♥️
