The wee face, I cannot ๐Ÿ˜

Floyd and his older sister Blondie crushed it in yesterdayโ€™s session, which was the first in our program. Thereโ€™s a lot going on with these two. A lot of behaviour challenges to overcome. Dog reactivity, stranger danger, separation anxiety, critical period issues, zero confidenceโ€ฆI could go on. Itโ€™s all happening ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

BUT!!

The human component of Team Snag are bloody amazing. They have buckled in, are doing all of the work, and would you look at that - we are seeing real progress already. My absolute favourite kind of clients ๐Ÿ’ช

If youโ€™ve lived with problem behaviours in your dog for a while, perhaps youโ€™re even at the point you are living around the problem and have given up any hope of things being different - please reach out. Letโ€™s talk about whatโ€™s possible. I love a challenge ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today was my final Enrichment Session with Ms Billie, next week we will have a Coaching Session with her owner to get her across the handling skills required to keep progressing Billieโ€™s training.

So, we headed to the Spit to proof our leash skills whilst enjoying the beautiful sunshine and salty sea air. Billie was a rockstar and walked with impeccable manners and a crystal clear understanding of the leash.

Is walking your dog more like hanging onto a stampeding rhinoceros for dear life? Are you next in line for a shoulder reconstruction? It doesnโ€™t have to be that way, and I can help. Send me a message and letโ€™s talk about how Enrichment Sessions can help bring the joy back to your outings with your dog.

Team continuing to go from strength to strength in their training. Today we did some more work with the ecollar. The biggest benefit of this tool in my opinion, is the clarity it brings.

The ecollar is like a language. The more fluent your dog becomes, the quicker and easier it is to add new words, phrases, pieces of understanding.

The benefits of the ecollar to Junoโ€™s training and overall wellbeing are both considerable and demonstrable. Hereโ€™s to a bigger life and a clearer, less conflicted, empowered and truly joyful dog.

If you want to demystify the ecollar and accelerate your dogโ€™s training - DM me.

Sarge aka โ€œThe Ginger Ninjaโ€ says walks around the block on a 6ft leash are for chumps.

Sarge says put on a long line and go somewhere new, play and explore.

Sarge is a Red Heeler, and itโ€™s a well known fact that they are always right about everything. So best do what he says.

Welcome back Boomer & Maggie ๐Ÿ˜

Booms and Mags have joined us for some Enrichment Sessions. Their wonderful owner has returned to work after the holidays, and we are on board to help break up their time at home with some training, exploring and play.

We got rained on all morning but it didnโ€™t dampen anyoneโ€™s spirits. I have a lot of love for these two and Iโ€™m so happy to be spending some time with them regularly ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy 4th birthday Rhu ๐ŸŽ‰

A tiny little worm, my biggest teacher. Truly one of the best things ever to happen to me.

Thanks for the relentless emotional gut punches, highly invasive licking, demanding so much more of me as a trainer, and the unwavering companionship, teamwork and love. You really are my dog, Rhu.

Another dog starting a round of Enrichment Sessions today. I was very happy to reconnect with Billy, who I first worked with last year.

Billy has some stranger danger and was a bit sketched out initially, leaving home with just me. Today we built trust, added value and had some conversations to set his mind at ease and give him some faith in our relationship.

Focus on giving the dog what they need, not just insisting on getting what you want, and ultimately youโ€™ll reach your goals faster and get way more back from your dog.

Starla the Cavoodle started off her Enrichment Sessions today. She is a mighty 2kg, but donโ€™t let her size give you any preconceptions. Her food drive is off the charts, and she has some of the nicest obedience Iโ€™ve seen in a good while!

Donโ€™t skip out on training your dog just because itโ€™s little. These dogs have mental, physical and drive based needs to be met too.

Starla can be a little dog spicy ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ and also gets a little over excited at the prospect of meeting her adoring human fans (in her mind, thatโ€™s everyone). Looking forward to working with her on these things in the coming weeks.

Cookie the Mini Labradoodle, celebrating her win yesterday during a session of structured play.

Little miss did a great job developing a fulfilling game, and learning how to walk on a loose leash.

Handsome man Bux has joined us for a program to tackle his prey-based aggression, directed at other dogs.

Aside from being really, really, ridiculously good looking, Bux has a wicked appetite for learning and plays tug like a dream.

Today we introduced the โ€œoutโ€ to his tug game, continued clarifying his windows building on work done in our initial session, and got started on leash communication.

Bux and his family are wonderful, I enjoy my time with them immensely and am excited to keep helping Bux become the best version of himself.

This weekโ€™s weird theme has been hanging out with dogs on their birthday. Happy second birthday Duke!!

Long term success comes from treating the cause, not the symptoms. What presents as a bunch of different concerns with this little stud, all stems from a lack of confidence. So, we are gonna teach Duke that heโ€™s a somebody. That he can be effective in his world.

Who wants to guess what the first thing was that we worked on?

You got it. We taught Duke how to play โ˜บ๏ธ

Billie is on board for a pack of Enrichment Sessions. Today was our first session together, and itโ€™s also her birthday!! ๐Ÿฅณ

Our main goal is improving leash walking, but of course we are also going to work on a bunch of other things to help Billie become the best version of herself. Today was all about getting to know each other and establish our working relationship. We touched on:

โœ… conditioning marker cues
โœ… cycling โ€œplayโ€ and โ€œfree libertyโ€ windows
โœ… developing food play
โœ… practicing โ€œcalm libertyโ€
โœ… conditioning leash pressure
โœ… navigating obstacles as a team
โœ… foundations of the heel

Birthday girl was an absolute delight to spend the morning with!

Think that Enrichment Sessions could benefit your dogโ€™s training? Get in touch and letโ€™s talk training goals.

Millie the Catahoula cross hadnโ€™t played in a fulfilling way with a human before today.

Nothing brings me more joy than seeing a dog discover, and lose themselves, in a game with their person. Seeing the surprise in their person turn into pure happiness is a close second.

Itโ€™s never a bad start to the day if it involves a GSD. After some run ins with other dogs, Koda has lost his confidence and has discovered aggressive displays keep him safe.

Adolescence can be a tempestuous time, hormones are a vibe. Emotions are raw, brains are developing, boundaries exist only to be tested.

Our goal is to steward Koda through this developmental stage with a careful and supportive hand, helping him realise his full potential and how to relate the world he lives in with ease.

Sometimes the problems can obscure our view of the potential. Koda has a lot to bring to the table in the work, and thereโ€™s a tug monster just waiting to be let out. He is a very enjoyable dog to work with and has a bright future ahead of him!

Continuing todayโ€™s theme of blue Merle stunners ๐Ÿ˜

Awesome initial session with Mercy, getting started on addressing his leash reactivity.

Step one: play.

Merc was gassed after a lovely game of tug, the perfect opportunity to tidy up his place training. Look at them crossed paws, so fancy!

Leading K9

Our aim at Leading K9 is to help you and your canine companion build an incredible relationship. We provide support at both ends of the lead to ensure your dog-human team gets the absolute best from their training. We will help you and your dog to understand each other, communicate clearly, and achieve awesome things together as a team.

A little about Kirsty, owner and trainer at Leading K9:

I am accredited through the National Dog Trainers Federation of Australia, holding a Certificate III in Dog Training and Behaviour, and I have been training dogs professionally for several years. I absolutely love what I do and I am passionate about helping people to help their dogs.

Back home in my native Scotland I gained my degree in Zoology (BSc, Hons). My biggest area of interest whilst studying was animal behaviour, so it is incredibly fulfilling to now be helping people to understand the behaviour of their dogs better.
