Working through reactive behaviours with your dog is no small feat. We need to address the emotion behind the behaviours, guide our dog to make better choices, and do a huge amount of work on ourselves to be a calm, confident support to them. Alfie is still on the journey but has come a long, long way. This a short snippet from our session today. Alfie has never seen Zeek (our trainer dog) before. He made great choices in our session today, worked hard to regulate himself and make good choices, and received fantastic support from both of his handlers. Alfie hasn’t been this close to a dog in 12 months. I couldn’t be more proud of his efforts today, and how well he relaxed into the session. Reggie is an anxious fella. We’ve been trying to work out our session structure to best reach our training goals. This is the second time I’ve set up the session like this, and I think we are onto the winning formula. 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 ❗️Ongoing confidence development is important! I am a big believer in helping dogs be the best version of themselves. A large part of this is maximising confidence - teaching a dog to believe in themselves and their own abilities. 😰 Low general confidence underpins a wide range of problematic or undesirable behaviours seen in dogs, and impedes our dog’s ability to navigate, and relate to, the world they live in. 🤔 There are a wide range of options available for building confidence in your dog, and I like to continue this work ongoing. In this video, Cornelius is working on interacting with his environment in a way that empowers him. Corny is a sweet soul but can feel the pressure of his environment, and be reluctant to navigate different obstacles and surfaces. 🏅Here we are creating achievable wins for Corndog. I want him to 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙜𝙜𝙡𝙚, 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡, 𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙛 𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩 🏆 I look for opportunities to support Cornelius with his confidence building every time we are out together. As a result, he is becoming increasingly relaxed in his environment and, with his generalised confidence level lifting, we have indirectly improved his dog reactivity (this is only part of our approach to tackling this).

Great to get back into it with Enzo and his human Jas after the Christmas break. Enzo had a lot of opportunity to hang out with dogs that he has a relationship with over the holidays, and he had the best time ❤️ Today we worked some setups using Enzo’s lovely obedience around Gary, in muzzle. The muzzle adds a layer of stress for Enzo, Jas is a trooper and is working hard at his conditioning to this tool. Enzo worked beautifully today, I’m so proud of this team and their relentless hard work 🌟
