🌟 Keeping Your Dog Safe and Calm During Fireworks 🌟

Fireworks can be exciting for us, but they can be very stressful for our pets. Here are some helpful tips to ensure your dog stays safe and calm during fireworks, especially if you’re not at home:

👉Create a Safe Space: Set up a cozy, quiet area for your dog with their favorite bedding, toys, and something comforting like an item of your clothing.

👉Provide Distractions: Keep your dog occupied with puzzle toys or chews. Play calming music or white noise to help mask the sounds.

👉Try Calming Products: A Thundershirt or anxiety wrap can provide soothing pressure.

👉Ensure Proper Identification: Make sure your dog’s collar has ID tags, registration, and a microchip with up to date details.

👉Secure the Environment: Close windows and doors to keep noise out, and check that your yard is secure to prevent escapes.

👉Safe Leaving Strategies: Exercise your dog earlier in the day, and leave them with their comfort items. If possible, arrange for a friend or pet sitter to be with them.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct individual and group training sessions for dogs of all breeds and ages, using a balanced approach that uses all quadrants of dog training (whatever works best for the dog you are training!)

• Assess each dog's behaviour and develop personalised training plans based on their needs and the owner's objectives.

• Teach basic obedience commands, socialisation skills, and address specific behaviour issues such as aggression, reactivity or anxiety.

• Educate dog owners on effective training techniques, including both positive reinforcement and appropriate corrective measures.

• Maintain detailed records of each dog's progress and communicate effectively with owners about their dog's development.

• Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in dog training methods, integrating balanced principles into sessions.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Dog Trainer or similar role, demonstrating proficiency in balanced training methods.

• In-depth knowledge of canine behaviour, breed characteristics, and a comprehensive understanding of balanced training techniques.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively coach and educate dog owners on balanced training practices.

• Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for dogs and their well-being.

• Certification from a recognised dog training program. NDTF Cert III in dog behaviour and training is preferred.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and weekends, to accommodate client schedules.

• Mobile phone with high quality camera to provide photo and video updates to owners

• Own vehicle and open licence. This role does involve travel around Brisbane and/or the Sunshine Coast based on operational requirements and your location

• Trustworthiness and ability to work independently. A lot of your time will be spent on your own during Walk & Train days – so we need to be sure you are able to perform your role efficiently.

• Effective time management and ability to stick to a schedule as each session is booked for a certain amount of time, with travel in between.

• Confident public speaker as at least one of your days will be spent at our group classes on weekends, and we are looking for someone who can confidently instruct classes.

🏥Vet desensitisation is such an important part of a dogs life. 🤝“Place training” not only establishes boundaries and structure but it also helps create good manners.

🧘‍♀️ Place training promotes relaxation for both dog and the owner. (It can also be used as a method to encourage manners when guests arrive!) It’s a win-win for everyone involved!

This is why we incorporate this skill into our group classes (it even features in some assessments 😉)

Christmas time is certainly here! 🎅

With Christmas comes all of the decorations which somtimes dogs can’t quite understand …🤔

📸 Today Alfie the Labrador was a little unsure about this inflatable Santa… Trainer Bec made sure she took her time to help show Alfie that it’s nothing to be frightened of at all! Way to go Alfie 💪

🎄 If you’re taking your dog to have a look at Christmas lights, this is something to be mindful of. Perhaps go during the day time first to see how your dog reacts. We recommend using these novel opportunities as training sessions! Make sure you spend the time to help your dog feel confident too 💪 😃

🎉CONGRATULATIONS to all our Control 1 and Foundation 1 graduates!

Foundation 1 is all about learning the basics on how to communicate and work effectively with your dog. F1 is so important as it’s where most of our members training relationship begins with their dogs! We love watching new members join, work hard and graduate F1, as we just know this will be the first of MANY goals accomplished as a team 💪 🐕

Control 1 is all about the beginning phases of advanced level obedience. Passing this class is not an easy task… and you all should be so proud of yourselves. This one is a HUGE achievement. By this stage we can really see the hard work paying off and it’s wonderful to see these skills being implemented in every day life - such as getting a coffee and holding a down stay, excellent impulse control around dogs/other distractions and holding focus on the handler, going for a relaxing walk (no leash pulling, and having the “heel” command for those tight spots!), great recall, and most importantly a STRONG relationship 🐕 🏆

Congratulations everyone, what a great weekend!👏
