We are extremely excited to announce our search for patients to undergo a groundbreaking TEER procedure at VSOS.
Transapical edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (TEER) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat severe mitral regurgitation caused by degenerative mitral valve disease. In humans, the TEER procedure, known as MitraClip procedure, has been performed over 100,000 times worldwide as an alternative to surgery.
In dogs, TEER is done through a small chest incision under general anaesthesia and places a device called the V-Clamp guided by fluoroscopy and transesophageal echocardiography. Patients typically walk the next day and leave the hospital within two days. The reduction in mitral regurgitation severity ranges from 25% to 90%, with better outcomes seen in early-stage cases.

There is a concern that more photos of Merle Cavaliers are appearing on social media - although people may think they look appealing, this is not a recognised Cavalier colour for good reason:
it is a dangerous and controversial breeding, especially when our beloved breed has so many health problems already.

We’re excited for this beautiful pairing!
Our gorgeous Black and tan carrying chocolate girl Jedda who is DNA clear 🧬
Is being paired to the handsome Rufus a beautiful Chocolate and tan stud 💪🏼

From this pairing we’re looking at increasing the snout slightly, with possibilities of DNA clear visual chocolates 🍫
We don’t focus on DNA clear in Cavs as there as a lot of other health issues such as Heart disease (MMVD) that we are striving to reduce.
So both parents have been Checked and Cleared by a specialist in August 2023 at the yearly heart Clinic 🩺
If all goes to plan and the breeding takes we will be expecting Chocolate and Tans, Chocolate Tris, Tri and Black and Tans.
No visual E Locus/ Ruby puppies from this litter.

We are so lucky to have the ongoing support of our local specialists. Thank You very much VSOS for all your hard work.

At VSOS we hold annual heart clinics for our beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. 🤍

This forever tail-wagging, loving and gentle breed are sadly renowned for their heart condition (but not limited to) mitral valve disease.

We hold these heart clinics to help owners and breeders rule the condition in or out.
This can be done via auscultation (listening to their heart with a stethoscope) and if required, measured and monitor using echocardiograms (ultrasounds of the heart).

Each year tick season usually begins around October and continues through to February, however, the game has changed drastically! We are now seeing our first patients in Winter, after there’s been some sunny days then days like today, cooler, rainy, we will no doubt see more ticks over the coming days.

So what happens when a tick bites your pet? Ticks will attach to your pets skin, hiding in their fur and getting engorged on their blood. They start small and can be extremely hard to find! Once attached and feeding, a paralysis tick starts producing a powerful toxin that affects your pets central nervous system, leading to paralysis and possible death. You may notice your pet struggling to get up, collapsing, their vocals sound different or even the tick itself, this is an emergency and without intervention your pet may die.

Steps to follow to keep your pet safe this season:
🔹 check them daily for ticks
🔹make sure preventative is given on time, same day every month, three months or six months
🔹stay out of long grass - ticks love holding onto long grass then falling onto your pet
🔹any symptoms of tick paralysis take them to your vet and have the staff check for ticks

With little to no tick antiserum in Australia prevention is incredibly important! You should check your pet daily as well as using a monthly, three monthly or six monthly product. You can always call and speak with our friendly team to find out what will work best for your furry family member.
