🐾 Fun Fact Friday! 🐾

The weather is starting to heat up! Ever wondered if your dog sweats?
They do, but not like we do!

While humans have sweat glands all over, a dog's primary sweat glands (called merocrine glands) are located in their paw pads. On a hot day, you might even notice damp paw prints on the floor – that's your dog's personal cooling system in action!

However, sweating through their paws isn't very efficient for cooling their whole body. A dog's main way to beat the heat is through panting. This process allows for moisture to evaporate from their tongue and lungs, which helps lower their body temperature.

So, while your pup might leave you a few sweaty "high fives," their panting is what's really keeping them cool.

How to help your dog stay cool:
✅ Always provide fresh, clean water.
✅ Ensure they have a shady spot to rest.
✅ Avoid exercise during the hottest parts of the day.

🐶 5 things you DIDN'T know about shedding in spring

If you have a dog or a cat, you probably notice more hair than usual at home during the spring months, don't you? It's shedding season, so we're going to tell you some interesting facts about this process:

1️⃣ It's natural. The moulting of our animals' hair is a completely natural process in which the fur is renewed, losing the old and dead fur to make way for new, healthy fur.
2️⃣ It's not just due to the heat. The moulting of hair can be influenced by various factors, including the season, the amount of sunlight and the dog's genetics.
3️⃣ Not all dogs shed in the same way. Breeds such as the Siberian husky or the golden retriever shed more intensely, while others such as the poodle hardly shed at all.
4️⃣ Diet influences shedding. A diet rich in fatty acids and quality animal proteins keeps the coat and skin healthier and reduces excessive shedding.
5️⃣ Don't forget to brush them! If you brush your dog or cat several times a week, you will be helping them to moult, especially in breeds with a double coat.
