5 key factors to consider when neutering your dog or cat 🐶🐱

Neutering your companion is a very important decision, so as guardians we must be well aware of the consequences of this intervention, as well as the negative and positive effects of it.

Here are 5 important factors to keep in mind:

1️⃣ Age
The optimal age for spaying or neutering a dog or cat depends on many factors, such as breed, size, health or lifestyle of your pet.
Keep in mind that a castration at an early age may lead to health and behavioral problems in the short - medium term.

2️⃣ Health
Neutering can have a major impact on health. In the past it was thought that castration was very beneficial, but several studies indicate that surgical castration can cause health problems in the future.
If we are going to surgically castrate our animal, it should be in good health before undergoing the procedure.

3️⃣ Behavior and context
It is important to identify your dog or cat's lifestyle and behavior, for example if it goes outdoors or not, if males and females live together without castration, if it has behavioral problems, such as urinating at home, aggression problems with other animals, tendency to run away...

4️⃣ Positive and negative effects
Each case must be evaluated individually. Make an appointment with your veterinarian so that he/she can advise you and explain the options, and in this way you can make a risk-benefit balance adapted to your animal.
Our veterinarians are the protectors of the health of our animals, trust them.

5️⃣ Types of sterilization 🌟
There are alternatives to castration that do not require surgery or anesthesia, which can be a method to assess the impact of the effects of sterilization on our animals. These alternatives are also reversible.

💡 Extra tip: In some countries, spaying and neutering is promoted as a method of reproduction control, as they suffer high abandonment rates. Therefore we advise you to read the animal welfare legislation of your country.

🚨 Attention Pet Parents! 🚨
Did you know some common plants can be highly toxic to your furry friends? 🐶🐾 Whether you're sprucing up your garden or decorating your home, it's crucial to know which plants to avoid if you have dogs (and cats too)! Here are 5 toxic plants to keep away from your pets:

1️⃣ Sago Palm 🌴
All parts of this plant are dangerous, especially the seeds. Ingestion can cause liver failure and even be fatal.

2️⃣ Lilies 🌸
While particularly dangerous for cats, dogs can also suffer from symptoms like vomiting and lethargy if exposed to lilies.

3️⃣ Aloe Vera 🌿
Though great for your skin, aloe can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy in pets if ingested.

4️⃣ Tulips 🌷
The bulbs are the most toxic part and can cause stomach aches, drooling, and even heart issues in severe cases.

5️⃣ Oleander 🌺
This beautiful plant is extremely toxic, even in small amounts. It can affect the heart and cause serious complications.

Keep your pets safe! 🏡 Always research before adding new plants to your home or garden, and contact your vet immediately if you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic plant.

🐾5 tips to keep your dog's & cat's skin healthy!🐾

Caring for your furry friend's skin is essential for their health and happiness!

Here are 5 simple tips to keep their coat shiny and skin healthy:

1️⃣ Brush Regularly
Regular brushing removes dead skin cells, distributes natural oils, and prevents mats or tangles that can irritate the skin.

2️⃣ Bathe Smart
Use pet-friendly shampoos and avoid over-bathing to prevent dryness. Always rinse thoroughly to avoid residue that can cause itching.

3️⃣ Feed a Balanced Diet
Healthy skin starts from the inside! Add omega-3 fatty acids and quality proteins to your pet's diet for a glowing coat.

4️⃣ Stay Flea-Free
Protect your pet from fleas and ticks with preventive treatments. These pests can irritate the skin and cause allergies.

5️⃣ Visit the Vet
If you notice redness, flakiness, or excessive scratching, consult your vet to rule out allergies or infections.

🛠️ Pro tip: Keep their bedding clean and vacuum often to reduce allergens.

The holidays may be over, but your furry friends might still be feeling the effects of all the festive fun! 🐕🐈 From sneaky snacking on rich holiday treats to the excitement (and stress!) of visitors, the holiday season can take a toll on your pet’s health.

🩺 Here’s why a veterinary check-up after Christmas and New Year's is a must:

✔️ Weight Management: Those extra holiday calories add up—time to keep your pets fit!
✔️ Stress Monitoring: Changes in routine or loud celebrations can affect your pet’s mental and physical health.

Your vet can spot and address any potential concerns early to ensure your pet starts the new year healthy and happy! 🎉

Why are your cat's whiskers so important? 🐱

Your cat's whiskers act as sensors that make your companion's day-to-day life easier, which is why it is so important to respect this tool of his body.

Here are 4 interesting facts about your best friend's whiskers:

✅ They're called vibrissae! The best known are on both sides of the nose, but they also exist on the eyes, on the chin, around the lips and on the front paws, depending on the cat's breed.

✅They act as sensory receptors: in dark conditions they help to detect the distance between obstacles, prevent the cat from stumbling, improve the accuracy of jumps and falls, etc.

✅ They help to calculate distances and spaces: the whiskers on the muzzle are normally as long as the width of the cat's body, so thanks to this it is able to work out whether a certain space is wide enough to allow its body to pass through, before entering.

✅They reflect the cat's mood and serve to communicate: when a cat is relaxed, resting or happy, its whiskers will remain virtually motionless. If he is curious, playing or hunting, the whiskers will point slightly forward. On the other hand, in case of nervousness, discomfort or fear, the whiskers will move backwards and bunch up close to the face.

Very important! Whiskers must not be trimmed!
The whiskers fall out by themselves for renewal and grow back, but they should never be cut ✂️

Without these tactile hairs, cats become disorientated and frightened, as they are the ones that allow them to detect their surroundings. To give you an idea, cutting the vibrissae is similar to someone putting a blindfold over our eyes, or preventing us from using our fingertips to feel our surroundings in the dark... how would you feel? I'm sure you'd be scared, wouldn't you?
