Koa & Koko🐶
Meet Koa & Koko!
These 2 girls are 10 month old rescued American Staffordshire Terriers.
When their owners rescued Koa & Koko they were told they were ‘untrainable’.
These sisters came to us to work on their severe leash pulling and dog reactivity (specifically to little dogs & cats).
We were told horror stories of them pulling their owners so hard they had no control over them, they would whine upon seeing another dog (if you have a reactive staffy, you know what I mean😂) and had absolutely no engagement from either of them.
Despite being told that Koa & Koko were not a bonded pair - Koko (sandy colouring) would pull herself and slip her harness to get to Koa. These girls are littermates!
These girls did a consultation and a 3 week leash walking program where we taught them leash pressure, heel and ‘park’ - The 3 necessities for leash training!
Todays session was an add-on session to work around more distractions. We worked outside of a dog park and around LOTS of people.
These girls have come extremely far in only a month!
Koa & Kokos owners have put in so much time and consistency in getting these dogs where they want to be as soon as they can be. Consistency is key🔑
Great job girls!🎉

Lyra the Golden Retriever🐶⭐️
Meet Lyra!🐶
Lyra is a (nearly) 2 year old golden retriever.
Lyra is a leash puller and a criss crosser (constantly switching which side she’s walking on). Lyra is okay when passing other dogs however will pull towards any person she see’s to try and make friends with everyone!
She is a covid puppy so as she was in lockdown during those crucial times for socialising a puppy, she is not exposed correctly to people causing her to be a little too interesting in everyone.
Today we took Lyra out for her first session! Look at the difference a little bit of structure can make in 1 session.
We discussed the importance of correctly exposing her to people and not letting her say hello to everyone she sees. We also started with some ‘place’ training to get her in a calm and engaged state of mind before even leaving the house.
Lyra still has 2 more sessions left with us as she’s doing a 3 week leash walking program. Let’s see how far she comes in her training💪🏼

Ashe completed his custom program
Ashe completed a custom program!
Ashe’s owner came to us when Ashe was a super young boy. They didn’t have much idea about what breed he is or how to fulfil his needs.
Ashe came to us with:
❌extreme biting issues
❌dangerous play
❌leash pulling
❌leash reactivity
❌no understanding of basic commands
❌no engagement
❌no recall
Ashe graduated today with:
✅muzzle trained
✅healthy/structured play
✅loose leash
✅no reactivity
✅thorough understanding of basic commands
✅super engaged
✅socialised
✅affective recall + off leash skills
It’s super important that we don’t suppress our dogs and fulfil them instead. Giving your dog the correct training mixed with an appropriate outlet for specific behaviours will be a game changer. An unfulfilled dog will lead to unwanted behaviours. A dog with no structure will also lead to unwanted behaviours. It’s so important that we find exactly what each dog needs.
Great job and congratulations Ashe!

Why do we use slip leads?
Why do we use slip leads?
Slip leads are used to implement leash pressure! A lot of dogs don’t understand the difference between leash tension and a ‘slinky leash’.
This training tool is used for ‘popping’ the leash and teaching loose leash walking! We use them on dogs who pull too much on a walk or are completely disengaged from their owner. They are great for setting structure in your walk, building confidence and reducing reactivity in dogs.
Slip leads are only to be used for training purposes and if you are looking to buy/use one please seek advice from a professional first to ensure you are using it properly!

GINGER & PABLO
Ginger and Pablo started off the session:
❌Pulling
❌Whining/Reactive
❌Completely disengaged
❌Unmotivated
They ended our session:
✅Engaged & focused
✅Loose leash
✅No reactivity
✅Keen to learn more!

5 Things to teach your dog NOW!
5 things every dog should know:
1.Boundaries - No rushing in or out of the house, crate, room etc. this implements so much structure and build so much trust between you and your dog!
2.Place - build your dogs confidence by asking them to stand and stay on furniture. Place is also a great command for teaching your dog to switch off and creates a calm space for them to go. Place is a great command for over excited, nervous or aggressive dogs when having company over.
3.Let go - everyone loves playing with their fur-friend but there does come a time where play comes to an end and teaching ‘let go’ is a great way of communicating to our dogs that we’re done playing and it’s time to switch off or switch up the game. Having an overstimulated dog who doesn’t know when to stop can be dangerous. Make sure you can turn it off!
4.Heel - this one is way easier said than done. However, there is so many benefits to teaching ‘heel’. This teaches your dog to trust your guidance! As well as it comes in handy when walking past a group of people, dogs or crowded areas and you need your dog by your side. Your dog should not be in a heel their whole walk! It should only be for moments where you need more control.
5.Crate training - create a safe place for your dog to switch off. This is how we keep our dogs safe, comfortable and under control when we cannot supervise them. This is also a great way to prevent separation anxiety. Although, if you are not sure how to correctly crate train your dog - speak to an animal behaviourist first! You want to make sure their crate is their safe haven, not a prison.
TIP: use your dogs meals as currency. This can help prevent resource guarding and weight gain due to too many treats. This also teaches your dog that all good things come through YOU and are worth working for. It also builds your dogs food drive which prevents picky eating!😊
Happy training,
-JAT&H🐾
When they tell you positive reinforcements don’t work for reactivity - PROVE THEM WRONG.
Negative reinforcement is such a quick answer. The real key to reactive dogs are the 3 C’s:
💪🏼Communication - If you and your dog lack communication at home, they are not going to listen to you outside.
💪🏼Consistency - Being inconsistent with your dog will create blurred lines for them and make it super hard for them to understand exactly what you expect of them.
💪🏼Confidence - This is a big one that I often talk about with clients. If your dog thinks you are not going to protect them, they will resort to protecting themselves which leads to reactivity. Tension creates tension !

Todays session with Ziggy! Session 3/4🐾
He has made major improvements from when I first came to work with him! He is super super responsive to his owner, he does perfect heel work & he is super food driven. He is working past his lunging and reactivity to trucks, bike and lizards. Although his reactivity to other dogs needs a bit more work.
I’m super excited for my next and final session with Zig! He was on his best behaviour for me today.😊🐾
Ginger & Pablo
Yesterdays session with the gorgeous Ginger & Pablo!🐾
Pablo is SUPER leash reactive and Ginger can sometimes get nervous on a leash. Their owner is determined to be able to walk both of them calmly one day! They were on their best behaviour for me yesterday.
Look at the confidence their owner has.🤩✅
They have already made huge improvements since last weeks leash session and I can’t wait to see how far they come in the next few weeks.🐾😁
