*Darren (name changed for confidentiality) lost everything in the Lismore floods, including his home. So did Lionheart the cat. When Darren returned to his flat to see if he could salvage anything he found out his neighbours were long gone but had left their cat Lionheart and a note to say they wouldn’t be back. Confused, Lionheart often tried to get back into his empty damp old home, when he couldn’t he slept in an old car. Darren, now homeless too had enough things in his life to deal with without having the additional burden of a pet cat but….he couldn’t stop checking in on Lionheart. Then he started feeding him once a day. Then twice a day. Then spending time giving him pats each evening after work. He contacted many pet rescues but all were full. Their friendship became the best part of their long days. With nothing left they found each other. Lionheart is staying at Sugarshine until Darren can find a home for both of them. He visits Lionheart every second night and the bond they have is obvious. In difficult times it’s easy to focus on the negative, but their story is so beautiful we had to share it. Thank you all for helping us support Darren and Lionheart. PS We don’t do cat rescue here, this is an exception.
