This week we want to highlight our 12 month old THANOS!
We are so proud of Thanos and his grooming progress within just 4 visits.
You wouldn’t be able toa tell from this video, but he would salivate from how anxious and unsettled he would be on the grooming table. We were very close to not being able to complete his grooms the first two visits.
Through having patience we have found alternative methods of handling and grooming him. Thanos now sits calmly on the table and we are able to finish his groom and within 90 minutes!
Here are some tips to try if you find yourself working with a difficult dog:
- Less restraint to table
- Holding firm around the muzzle instead of their chin hair
- Constant and repetitive positive reassurance “good boy”
- Distraction pats whilst one hand works.
- Compromise where you can (Thanos now allows us to use the blaster to dry him, but for his muzzle and ears we dry them to 80% and let those areas air dry whilst we work on the rest of his body.)
If only I filmed his first two grooms, you would be shocked at the difference in his behaviour on the table!
Happy grooming 😇
