Turn a regular bowl into a more enriching item for your dog by flipping it over and placing the food in the hard to reach areas. Here we used this idea with a border collie who is reactive to moving cars, so the exercise was done on her front lawn.

What is more appealing to a super friendly dog than a whole bunch a people that could give them loads of pats and attention?! Leo loves people but makes it difficult for his owner to walk him as he wants to jump up on everyone and say hello. Rather than punish a dog for this behaviour we simply show them a more appropriate behaviour to perform, in this case a simply ‘sit’ and ‘look’. We reward the dog when the behaviour is performed which helps reinforce and condition them to choose the more desired behaviour each time. Leo got an A+ in this session! His owner used a high value food reward to keep him motivated. Good job Leo & Hayley 👏🏼

🚗 Scary Car 🚗
The car can be a rather scary thing for dogs as they really don’t understand what it is. Rivers owner got a new car and River wasn’t a fan of it. We have broken Rivers training down into very small sections to help this anxious pup get use to the car. First we are starting with showing her that if she goes near the car she gets rewarded. This training is tedious but it’s very important to not push River faster than she is willing to go.

🌳 Change Of Environment 🌳
A change of environment can change your dogs behaviour drastically and sometimes for the better. I have been working with Zeus the cattle dog for a couple of months now to help with his human and dog reactivity. When we are out the front of his house or around his street he lunges at me and is clearly distressed. We recently changed the environment for our session and we had minimal reactions and I was able to get nice and close to him whilst walking. In this video he was not jumping at me out of aggression, I had just given him a treat and he was looking for more! Major breakthrough for Zeus.
Training plans aren’t simple and straight forward, we as trainers are constantly brainstorming and readjusting to best suit the dog and their needs.

👃 Decompression Session 👃
After a training session that has been very stimulating for your dog, it is good to give them an activity to help them decompress. This helps them calm down and get back to a stable mind state. A good way to do this is by allowing them to have a big snuffle in the grass. Scatter some treats through the grass and allow them to search for them. You will be bringing a more relaxed dog back into your house after.

Atlas LOVES to be greeted by every person and dog on the street which seems lovely but very difficult for his owner to walk him. We are teaching Atlas that it’s ok to not say hello to everyone and to stay calm when the streets are busy. He is a very smart boy and picking up on his training very quickly.
