We film all new patients walking to help with our gait assessment, this allows us to watch back in slow mo to really pin point where the lameness or compensation is.
This process makes for very cute videos too! Love to see all their smiling faces.
This might not look like much, but 6 weeks ago 15 year old Krishna #terrier was completely paralysed in his hind legs from a bacterial infection in the brain causing #encephalitis and loss of mobility.
.
So far he has done some intensive rehab with us including 2 x hydrotherapy sessions and home exercises, and can now walk with the use of a #WalkinPets rear end harness.
.
He's not able to fully weight bare yet, but with minimal assistance he can get around using all four limbs again, and he is getting stronger by the day!
Go Krishna! πͺπΆπ
Repost from @betty_and_wilma_v of Wilma swimming in her hydrotherapy session today π Look at her little legs go! π
POV: you are a Canine Hydrotherapist.
Front row seats to the splash zone in with Mishka Newfoundland. π¦π
Mishka has spondylosis, degenerative joint disease and and Arthritis and is working on building strength and stability to help him get back to longer walks. He is already finding it easier to get up from resting. Well done Mishka.
Sandy has been coming to see us for a while recovering from her IVDD surgery, and has now started to walk a lot more on her own in the treadmill π
.
Motivation is the hardest part with her, so we used a lick mat to keep her focus going forwards π€€
Our patients are working hard when they are here to make sure they get results. But that doesn't mean they can't have fun whilst they are at it!
Working hard in here leads to more safe play outside!
Gina works really hard in each round so she gets a nice stretch and massage in each break which she loves π
.
She has been coming twice per week for weight loss, treatment for Grade 3 Medial Patella Luxation and Arthritis. With a change in diet and her 2x weekly hydrotherapy she is shedding the kg's and walking longer and faster with her Patella staying in place.
Well done Gina.
Minnie couldn't wait to get in for her hydrotherapy session today! π€©
She has made such great progress with her recovery following a diagnosis of a narrowed spinal canal in her cervical spine which made her gait fairly ataxic. She recently visited her specialist neurologist who was impressed by her recovery with no overt ataxia displayed in her consult. The vet told her to keep up with with what she's been doing. So needless to say, she will be back πΆπ
Saturdays are our busiest day of the week, with back to back appointments all day. Here's Shiro and Jengo working hard in both treadmills at the same time.
πͺπΆπ€π¦π€πΆπ All while the clinic manager has a snooze π΄π
Ever wondered what it is like inside a Canine underwater treadmill? Here's Molly showing you how it's done π¦πΆππ½
It was Jengo's first time in the water, ever. He was a bit nervous about the idea, but with lots of reassurance (and high value treats! π
) he picked it up in no time. He was looking great in his jacket after the session too! πΆππΌπ¦
Sandy the Dachshund unfortunately had a disc slip in her thoracolumbar region which left her paraparegic in the hind limbs. She was operated in August 2022 to have the impinged disc material removed, and came to see us for her Rehab at the start of October 2022.
.
Two months later - today, she took her first steps on her own in the underwater treadmill. Such a huge milestone for her! πͺπΆ
.
It took a lot of work but Sandy's mum was very committed to her her to walk again. We saw her for twice weekly hydrotherapy and laser (PBM) therapy sessions. We started with foot placement, and once her reflex response was a bit stronger we were able to get her hind legs to "walk" with some reflex tail manipulation to stimulate her hind legs to move, building her strength and stability. To see her walk on her own today was such an achievement. We're all so proud of her β€οΈ she still has a long way to go to walk out of the water but she's definitely on her way!
