🚨‼️

Why is a paralysis tick so dangerous?

The paralysis tick releases a pulsed toxin flow while feeding over a set period of time.
The type of toxin released has varying effects in different species and various tolerance levels, predominantly poorer in canines.
It is a neurotoxin produced in the ticks salivary gland, that attacks the nervous system and can rapidly progress into motor paralysis and can be FATAL with or without treatment.

Signs and symptoms include…

🐾Loss or change of voice.
🐾loss of movement or balance in back legs
🐾an increased respiratory effort
🐾coughing/wretching/gagging
🐾vomiting
🐾dilated pupils

On dogs a tick can be found anywhere, ranging from in between their toes, neck, back, ears and even eyes.
On cats they are mainly found on the back and front of the neck but it always important to check everywhere.
Please find below pictures of what a paralysis tick looks like and how it can engorge on your pet.

We are so lucky to have prevention from these horrid parasites!
Prevention is so so important, if you don’t already please get prevention for your pets.

Please phone the clinic on 0247 215494 or visit us to discuss the best preventatives for your fur family.
We have a range of products to keep your
furkids safe.
