I just read this book again this morning written by Louise Ginman. I didn’t realise how much this book has helped me over the years. It is really brilliant not only for just introducing dogs, but providing for your dog’s needs. Highly recommended 👌

I witnessed 2 friendly dogs break out in a fight. One of the dogs was on a retractable lead and they simply got tangled and panicked. I have heard of another dog that got spooked and was run over by a car because the handler dropped the handle. They have caused serious injury to people and other dogs if the thin cord gets caught up in legs/wrapped hands or fingers or ankles and pulled tightly causing rope burn and lacerations. Even good quality long leads can pose risk of injury and must be used carefully. Enjoy an outing with your dog on a normal 2m lead, or, if in an off-lead space, a longer lead or off lead if the dog is under effective control.

We recently launched an education campaign about positive reinforcement training because we are concerned dog-loving viewers will be misinformed by Channel 10's upcoming new show Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly Australia, which is based on outdated, quick-fix and aversive dog training methods.
We are calling pet owners to with rewards-based and force-free training and help prevent pet surrenders to already overcrowded animal shelters!
You can follow our FB page for commentary by our force-free trainers on humane and lasting solutions to dog behaviour problems featured in the upcoming episodes, which begin on July 13.
Managing dog behaviour can be a challenge but achievable with positive solutions!

So often what guardians see as behaviour 'problems' are perfectly normal behaviours to the dog. We have a responsibility under the Five Freedoms to let our dogs have the freedom to carry out natural behaviours. So give them a place where they can dig, such as a sand pit, to keep your lawn and flowerbeds safe. Give them plenty of 'legal' things to chew to avoid them working through your shoe collection. Let them have the time to sniff, especially on walks - you're here on social media, so give them the chance to check theirs!

The model of aggression and dominance has infected human society. But new research shows how wrong we got it.

I'M A GOOD DOG TOO 🐾💜

Dogs who wear muzzles are good dogs. Dogs who aren’t dog friendly are good dogs. Dogs who are leash reactive are good dogs. Dogs who need space are good dogs. Dogs who are scared of strangers are good dogs.

If you see someone clearly making steps to avoid you or your dog while you are out walking, please respect them.

If someone lets you know that their dog needs space or isn’t dog friendly, please respect them.

If you see someone clip their dog on lead when you approach, clip yours on too and give them space.

Some dogs don't want to interact with other dogs or people and that's fine. I'm sure you don't want to interact with everyone you see either! They still deserve to have a great quality of life and go everywhere yours gets to go as long as they are taking the right precautions.

Having a dog that needs space is a challenge all of its own, but we are doing our best to advocate for them to insure they live the best lives we can give them. Training can't happen at all unless we take these dogs into public places. To everyone with friendly dogs, please don’t be offended and please don't judge. A nervous dog can happen to anyone at anytime. Instead of playing the blame game, let's all try make that dog's life more comfortable and its owners life much easier by being understanding.
