When 12-year-old Pearl started limping and her owner couldn’t afford the vet care she needed, Project HoPe stepped in. At Southern Cross Vet, we were able to provide free consultations, X-rays, and palliative care, ensuring she remains comfortable and loved. All this was made possible through your contributions to our charity, Project HoPe which provides free veterinary care to the pets of the homeless and domestic violence victims across Australia.

For many facing hardship, pets are their lifeline—and we’re committed to helping them.

Read Pearl’s full story & consider donating to Project HoPe to help more pets like Pearl. 🧡

🐾 Pearl’s Story – How Project HoPe Helped a Former Racing Greyhound 🧡

Pearl, a 12-year-old former racing greyhound, recently found herself in need of urgent veterinary care. She had been limping severely on her left front leg, and a suspicious mass was found on the right side. Unfortunately, her owner—facing financial hardship—couldn’t afford the necessary vet care.

Thanks to Project HoPe, we stepped in to provide a free consultation, X-rays, and ongoing palliative care for Pearl.

🩺 Our vets discovered arthritis in her spine and a large area of concern in her left shoulder, suspected to be bone cancer (osteosarcoma). While surgery wasn’t an option, we ensured Pearl received pain relief and palliative care, so she could continue to live comfortably, surrounded by love.

At Project HoPe, we believe that no pet should suffer because their owner is experiencing tough times. For many in hardship, their pets are their lifeline, their reason to keep going. We’re proud to help keep these bonds strong.

🐶 Want to support Project HoPe? Your donations help us continue providing lifesaving care to pets like Pearl. Learn more or donate today: https://projecthope.org.au/

Bindi's Emergency Care at Southern Cross Vet 🧡

Bindi came to our Surry Hills clinic with concerning symptoms. 😢 While syncope (fainting) and seizures can appear similar, they have very different causes and require specific treatments.

Dr Sam, nurse Muhammad, and the team conducted a thorough examination and discovered that Bindi had mildly elevated liver enzymes. This led to a vomiting incident that likely triggered a reflex with the vagus nerve that temporarily slowed her heart rate.

Bindi is doing better now and we’re keeping a close eye on Bindi’s condition and will be conducting further liver testing soon to ensure her continued health and wellbeing. 🐶🐾

This case highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis in emergencies. At Southern Cross Vet, our state-of-the-art laboratory and diagnostic tools enable us to provide prompt and precise care. And luckily our fully functional, human-grade lab was operational today despite it being a public holiday which enabled us to find out the cause of what was affecting Bindi and thereby help her.

Our dedicated team is always ready to give your furry family members the best possible treatment—this is the Southern Cross Vet difference.

We’re here when you need us most. Call us at 1300 DOC SAM (📞1300 362 726) or visit us at https://scvet.com.au/book to book an appointment.
