When 12-year-old Pearl started limping and her owner couldn’t afford the vet care she needed, Project HoPe stepped in. At Southern Cross Vet, we were able to provide free consultations, X-rays, and palliative care, ensuring she remains comfortable and loved. All this was made possible through your contributions to our charity, Project HoPe which provides free veterinary care to the pets of the homeless and domestic violence victims across Australia.
For many facing hardship, pets are their lifeline—and we’re committed to helping them.

🐾 Pearl’s Story – How Project HoPe Helped a Former Racing Greyhound 🧡
Pearl, a 12-year-old former racing greyhound, recently found herself in need of urgent veterinary care. She had been limping severely on her left front leg, and a suspicious mass was found on the right side. Unfortunately, her owner—facing financial hardship—couldn’t afford the necessary vet care.
Thanks to Project HoPe, we stepped in to provide a free consultation, X-rays, and ongoing palliative care for Pearl.
🩺 Our vets discovered arthritis in her spine and a large area of concern in her left shoulder, suspected to be bone cancer (osteosarcoma). While surgery wasn’t an option, we ensured Pearl received pain relief and palliative care, so she could continue to live comfortably, surrounded by love.
At Project HoPe, we believe that no pet should suffer because their owner is experiencing tough times. For many in hardship, their pets are their lifeline, their reason to keep going. We’re proud to help keep these bonds strong.
