☀️🐶 BRANDY’S HOT WEATHER WARNING! 🐾☀️
As the days heat up, it’s important to keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke in our furry friends — it can develop fast and be life-threatening.

🚨 Watch for:
🐾 Excessive panting or drooling
🐾 Bright red gums or tongue
🐾 Weakness, wobbliness, or collapse
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐾 Seeking shade

💦 What to do:
1️⃣ Move your pet to a cool, shaded area
2️⃣ Offer small sips of cool (not icy) water
3️⃣ Gently wet their body with cool water
4️⃣ Call your vet immediately — even if they seem to recover

🐕☀️ Prevention is key:
🚫 Never leave pets in cars — even for a minute
🌳 Provide shade and fresh water at all times
🏃‍♀️ Walk dogs early morning or late evening
🐶 Extra caution: Flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs (of all kinds), Pugs, Boxers and Cavaliers are at higher risk — they can overheat much faster, even on mild days.

🦷🐾 Looks can be deceiving when it comes to dental disease! 😬✨

Did you know that the amount of tartar you see on your pet’s teeth doesn’t always reflect how healthy (or unhealthy) their mouth really is? 🤔🪥

🐶 Meet Oscar and Jasper, two West Highland Terrier brothers who were in for their dental procedures today! 🤍
Westies often develop heavy tartar build-up on their teeth 🧼🦷 — yet surprisingly, they can still have healthy teeth and gums underneath once that tartar is removed 👏💪

In contrast, other pets may only show mild tartar or gingivitis on the surface 😯 but have significant disease hidden below the gum line — including bone loss, infection, or damaged tooth roots that may require extraction ⚠️🩺

That’s why visual checks alone aren’t enough — a full dental examination under anaesthetic with dental X-rays 📸💤 is the only way to truly assess your pet’s oral health and keep those smiles happy 😁🐕🐈

Beautiful Julie is just a ray of sunshine ☀️ every time she visits us. She was in for a dental 🪥🦷 last week. After being the most perfect 👌 patient all day, we thought she deserved a treat (or 20) to celebrate her 🎉

We love being able to spoil our patients 🐶🐱 after any procedures they have with us (big or small). As we find that it helps them associate vet visits with positive things like treats and pats 🐾, rather than scary but necessary things like needles 💉 and medications 💊

A friendly reminder that most baby birds don’t need to be rescued 🙅‍♀️
As we are coming into the warmer months ☀️ baby birds 🐣 will eventually start learning to fly 🦅
For some species (magpies, native miners and plovers particularly) this will involve them leaving the nest for periods of time 🐥
Unless the baby looks sick, cold, injured or there is a direct threat such as other animals that can’t be removed, please leave them where they are. Monitor for 30 minutes to check if their parents are coming back 🐦‍⬛🪹

If you’re sure it needs to be rescued, place gently into a cardboard box 📦 keep dark and warm, do not offer any food and bring to your nearest rescue organisation or vet clinic 🏥

He has found his passion in caring for animals of all kinds 🐕🐎🐍🐇 With dreams of owning a diverse array of pets, he especially has a fondness for fish 🐠 and dogs 🐶

🎉🥳 Birthday hats for our golden oldies! 🎂🐾
Today we celebrated two of our wonderful senior patients with a little birthday love. 💕
Winston 😻 celebrated his 18th birthday with a blood test to check his thyroid and Schneebly 🐶 celebrated his 15th birthday with an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) with cardiologist Dr. Damon! ❤️
