⚠️ Easing of Hawkesbury control zones

NSW DPIRD has eased the emergency zones in the Hawkesbury region as the response to the Hawkesbury outbreak of high pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H7N8 strain continues towards resolution.

From 29 August, the emergency zone significantly reduced in size. This means many properties that were in the emergency zone will no longer need a permit for moving birds, poultry products, feed and equipment. Smaller emergency zones will remain in place around the impacted properties to ensure final decontamination measures can occur.

The order implemented in NSW as a result of the Avian Influenza on an ACT property has also been fully revoked.

Thanks to the industry and community in the Hawkesbury – your exceptional efforts and vigilance in reporting, adhering to biosecurity measures and cooperating with the biosecurity emergency orders has allowed the zone changes.

In winter harvest fruit for their vitamin C. When choosing which variety to grow, first look at your space. Most trees need to 2 to 3 metres. Where space is tight, select a dwarf variety such as 'Lots a’ Lemons’. It can be grown in a large container a sunny location.

NSW is currently responding to Avian Influenza outbreaks in poultry farms in the Hawkesbury district.

Avian Influenza (AI) is a serious, highly contagious disease of birds. It is notifiable in Australia, meaning any suspected cases need to be reported immediately.

Stay alert and know the signs:
⚠️Birds with swelling around the head and neck
⚠️Birds with nasal discharge, coughing, sneezing or difficulty breathing
⚠️Purple discolouration of wattles, combs or legs

If you notice sick or dead poultry or birds, report it immediately to the 24-hour Emergency Animal Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888.
