🦴 Could Your Dog Have Osteosarcoma? Spot the Early Signs 🐕

Osteosarcoma is an aggressive bone cancer that affects many dogs, and early detection is crucial.
Here’s what you should look out for in your pup:

⚠️ Sudden limping/lameness
⚠️ Swelling or a noticeable lump on a limb especially around a joint
⚠️ Pain when touching a specific area or reluctance to use a leg
⚠️ Increased tiredness or reluctance to exercise

If you spot any of these signs, don’t wait—consult your vet immediately.
Don't put off taking a radiograph.
An early diagnosis can make all the difference for your dog’s health and well-being. ❤️🐶

When out and about with your dog, it's wise to be considerate of others—both people and pets.
Not all dogs enjoy meeting other dogs, just like not all people like dogs.
For some, it can be an incredibly anxiety-inducing experience.

When someone asks you to keep your dog away from theirs, please don't take it as a personal attack.
Do as you're asked and be pleasant. Enjoy your walk

Last week Dr Leigh was on Sunrise discussing how to keep your pets safe from paralysis ticks.

Ticks are rampant at the moment due to perfect reproducing weather.

If your cat and/or dog has been outside, make sure that along with keeping them on a preventative product, you are performing a tick search daily.

Immediately remove any ticks you find and watch for signs of paralysis:
⭐️ strange meow, bark
⭐️ uncoordinated or lame
⭐️ droopy eye
⭐️ drooling, inability to swallow
⭐️ retching, regurgitating or vomiting.

If concerned, contact the Your Vet Online vets who can help you decide if you need to take your pet to the vet.

Our service has been fielding consults from people who have found ticks on their dog or cat and want to know what to do.

Unlike with humans where the way you remove a tick is vitally important, in dogs and cats you can remove it without the risk of complication.

Prevention is better and far less distressing than cure.

If you live where the Brown tick is prevalent, you must use a repellent and a preventative.

When your doggo needs an e.collar use a sock!!

Fill a large sock with other socks old shirts or towels. Wrap around the neck and secure firmly with a safety pin.

But be warned. This type of e.collar is only suitable if it prevents your pet from getting to the area that needs protection.

Therefore it's not a good option for face, ears, feet, and some hindlimb, body problems.

If your pet can reach or rub the area, this e.collar is not suitable.

The health and welfare of livestock is a top priority for farmers.
One of the important practices in sheep farming is lamb docking.
This procedure involves removal of a portion of a lamb's tail and is crucial for several reasons. 🐑✨

Docking prevents health issues related to flystrike, a condition where flies lay eggs in soiled wool, leading to serious infections that can result in sepsis and death.

By docking the tail, we minimise the risk of moisture accumulation and keep the area cleaner, ensuring our sheep stay healthy and happy their entire life! 🌼

When sheep are well cared for they will thrive and contribute positively to the flock's productivity. 🐾

If you are starting to breed sheep then it’s essential to consult with a veterinarian to learn the best practices in lamb docking and other welfare measures.

Our vets are here to help ensure your flock remains as healthy and as productive as possible!

No hoof no horse is a common saying that 100% rings true.

Sadly, spring is when we see many ponies succumb to laminitis.
This occurs when the lamina becomes inflamed, separating the hoof wall from the underlying pedal bone. The white arrows show this.

In severe cases, the pedal bone will pull away so much that it rotates and penetrates the sole of the hoof. (circled area).

Our website contains plenty of information about laminitis - check it out to learn more. ⬇

Say Goodbye Worry & Hello Peace Of Mind - veterinary care 24/7

We are Australia's only 24/7 online veterinary health service. Everyday and night we help people just like you who have a problem with their pet or horse. We don’t want to see you worried and your animals suffer.

Your Vet Online was started in 2015 by Dr Leigh Davidson, a kiwi girl (and an avid All Black supporter) living in Australia. After seeing so many cases where pet parents and horse owners are stuck wondering about how to help their animal, Dr Leigh decided there had to be a better way. No more random advice from forums and Dr Google, why not get specific advice from a vet about exactly the problem your pet has? We use video and can assess photos, videos and guide you through an examination.

Being online is no barrier. In fact, it makes it so much more convenient for you! Imagine needing advice at 3am....well yep...our vets are available! Public holidays are no problem either.

We listen to you, ask all the questions we need to know and guide you through an examination to help us deliver a solution.
