Hornsby Veterinary Hospital

Hornsby Veterinary Hospital Welcome to Hornsby Veterinary Hospital, where you’re not a patient, you’re a pet” we believe this is true. It was established in 1968 by Dr Harry Bruhl .

As Veterinarians and Veterinary Nurses, we all have a burning love for animals. We have all undertaken this profession to care, nurture and heal creatures of all shapes and sizes. At Hornsby Veterinary Hospital, we hope to combine our professionalism and skill with this innate love for animals, to provide the best care for our patients and exceptional service to our clients. We hope that we can be

approachable to all our clients and that we can promote a friendly, caring environment. The human animal bond is an unbelievable relationship and we wish to foster this in all that we do. A client of ours once said, “at Hornsby Veterinary Hospital, you’re not a patient, you’re a pet”…. Hornsby Veterinary Hospital is one of the oldest Veterinary practices in Sydney. At that stage it was only one of two Veterinary practices on the northshore. Dr Angus Martin purchased the Hospital in 1992. The small cottage, that a lot of our clients will remember, was demolished in 2000 and replaced with an “A” Class, “purpose – built” Veterinary Hospital. We are very proud of our new hospital and it enables us to provide our clients with a very high standard of Veterinary care

It is important to keep our pets in mind when making those New Year’s Eve plans! 🎉 Fireworks can startle your pets due to how sensitive their ears are - they have 10 times better hearing than humans!! Fireworks can be loud and stressful for them. 💥

🫶🏼 It is important to create a safe environment for them during these stressful times.

🪑 Make sure you remove any objects/furniture that could cause harm to a panicking pet.

‼️ Make sure your pet is wearing some form of identification so they can be easily returned if they escape.

🚪 If you can, try keep your pets indoors where they are safe and secure.

🥰 Provide comfort - your presence can provide comfort and reassurance.

We wish you a fun and safe New Year. We look forward to seeing you all in 2025!

Hornsby Vet will be closing at 4:00pm today and we will be CLOSED tomorrow. We will be open on Thursday 2nd January 8:00am-12:00pm. In the case of an emergency please call TPS or SASH. 🏥🚨

A heatwave is sweeping across NSW and it is crucial to keep your pets safe during extreme temperatures. Heat stress and heatstroke are life threatening emergencies, but with the right precautions, they are preventable:

☀️ Ensure your pet has access to plenty of water at all times and provide shaded areas to help keep them cool.

🚗 You should never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, especially on days like today.

💧 Indoor pets must also have access to plenty of water at all times.

🐕 Avoid exercising pets in the hot weather.

🐾 Do not walk your pets on hot concrete, hot sand hot asphalt. This will cause severe, painful burns to their paw pads.

🏠 If and where possible, keep your pets indoors.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat stress and heatstroke: heavy panting, drooling, vomiting, unsteady movements, or collapse require immediate veterinary attention.

Pet tip! Pet Proof your Christmas decorations 🎅🏽🎄💡 🎁

*Hang your Christmas tree decorations up high so your pet can’t reach them.
*Stabilise your tree.
*Pets love to play with baubles and tinsel but they can harm your pet’s digestive system if consumed.
*Be sure to keep all cords and outlets out of reach. *Fragile ornaments should be kept up high so there is less chance of them being knocked/pulled off, breaking and potentially harming your pet.

Yesterday we gave a teary farewell to our wonderful Practice Manager, Sarah, as she is taking maternity leave. 🌸

Sarah is taking the well deserved time off to welcome a new member of the family with her husband, Luke. We are so thrilled and excited for the two of them and we can’t wait to meet their baby girl. 🎀👶🏻🍼
We will all miss seeing Sarah’s smiling face around the hospital and her fur baby Tilly 🐶.

We wish Sarah and Luke all the best in this new and exciting chapter of their lives. ✨🫶🏼
