We wished to let you know about a wild rabbit control program is scheduled for Penrith and the Greater Sydney Local Government Areas, including the Central Coast, in early March 2025 and will include the release of Rabbit Virus (RHDV1-K5), a rabbit calicivirus K5 strain.

The RHDV1-K5 release date is: First week of March 2025.

We wished to inform clients of the need to vaccinate pet rabbits as all rabbits, including pet rabbits can be affected.

Rabbits that are always indoors are less susceptible but the virus can be spread by mosquitos, so there is still some risk

For best protection rabbits should be vaccinated prior to 1 March 2025.
