When our nurses are lucky to have a few minutes spare in their day we try our best to get Marvin up and moving. He spends most of his day sleeping and doesn't get the chance to expel all of that pent up 'cat energy' all of the time.
We have a hard time trying to find toys he enjoys but we recently got him a new mouse toy that he adores!
Mental stimulation for cats
For those who have indoor cats, it can be difficult to keep them occupied. We want to keep them safe, but sometimes don't have the time or the ability to try and let them burn up the energy they would normally use outside.
"One solution is to put a proportion of the cat’s daily food ration in a puzzle feeder, which the cat needs to work at in order to gain access to the food, and another is to scatter the food around the house and let the cat hunt it out." To read more about caring for an indoor cat you can read the rest of the article here: https://www.drspot.com.au/pet-health-resources/pet-health-articles/articles/?rid=12274
This puzzle feeder was a cheap buy for one of our nurses cats from K-Mart. They don't have to be expensive fancy toys. This one is simply a block of wood cut out with holes inside!
We are absolutely in love with these two boys. They are currently waiting to be desexed and have given us alot of joy this morning. We always love seeing squishy, friendly cats!
Simparica - works fast and lasts
Spring into parasite protection, before they sneak onto your pets!
Simparica by Zoetis is a simple, tasty chew that dogs love. It lasts for 35 days and kills fleas, ticks, mange and mites!
Zoetis also offers a rewards system for clients who keep their pets protected year-round. You could earn yourself a free 3-pack of Simparica or Cat Revolution *every year* - why not ask our staff how?!
Little adoption kitten Rex playing with Uncle Marvin. If you are interested in adopting our little rexy-boy please do not hesitate to give us a call on (02) 4628 5055 or drop past at 44 Chamberlain St, Campbelltown for a visit.
We mentioned yesterday that even short haired pets can shed just as much as long haired. The only way we can get Marvin to stay in one place to brush him is by lying a blanket down then brushing. He loves to smooch up against the blanket/towel when we brush him and it keeps him occupied for a while!
Does your pet have any quirks when you try to brush them? Or have you given this technique a try on your furry friend and it has worked? Let us know :)
So we may have forgotten our little mans birthday yesterday! (Sorry Marvin!) So here's a belated Happy Birthday to our wonderful little man! We promise - even if it has been busy - to give you lots of cuddles and love today xoxo
TODAY IS VET NURES DAY! Dr. Geoff and Mandy have been spoiling the nurses this week with coffees, cakes, fruit and more. They have also booked a night for the Dr Spot family to go to the movies (yay!)
Vet Nurses day came about through the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia. This is a council who is always there to help and support vet nurses in their field. They have raised awareness of the important of nurses and helped allow them to have a more stable and recognised qualification.
Today is a day to thank all of the vet nurses from all of the clinics. It's to thank them for the cuddles, the tears, the joy, the laughter and all other things they feel and do with the pets that come through each day. For the emergency nurses who work tirelessly through the night; for the nurses who work full weekends, for nurses who work part time and are trying to complete their studies and qualifications... We say thanks to them all! xoxo
We have one more post later today for our Veterinary Nurses week updates - so please keep an eye out.
