We didn't have much hope for the sprouting broccoli we planted, as most of the seedlings died. But today we harvested the main flower head from the two surviving plants - and a side shoot had already started growing on one plant. 😃

A huge THANK YOU to the group of workers from ADCO who spent Monday morning at the garden.

This was the company's annual Community Day, where they give back to the community. The repaired and stained the timber on the raised beds, fixed the climbing arches, mowed, whipper snipped and more.

Their efforts are very much appreciated! ❤️

We're cancelling this morning's working bee (Saturday 22 June), as it looks a bit too rainy to be fun. A few of us may head down later if the weather clears.

Rainy now, but the radar shows that the rain should be mostly over by 9:00 or 9:30. So the working bee is still on today.

The Shanghai Bok Choy crop is our biggest success story this season! In previous years we've fastidiously started seedlings in trays, having limited success with germination and transplanting. On 17 April this year, we scattered seeds directly on the garden bed. Four weeks later, on 15 May, we transplanted over 80 seedlings into our "west meadow" - with plenty still left in the bed!

So many Shanghai Bok Choy seedlings! We transplanted dozens of them under the timber frame in the east meadow. Hopefully the snails and slugs won't find them there. 😃

The Shanghai bok choy seed package suggested scattering the seeds and thinning out the plants to about 10cm apart when they're about 6cm tall. We were impressed with the germination rate!
