Louis presented to The Pet Specialists with a trauma wound to his ear. He suffered full thickness laceration to his right ear with the underlying cartilage exposed. Dr Eugene Buffa (specialist surgeon) and team repaired the deficit through surgical debridement and a right caudal auricular advancement flap. This skin flap utilises the available loose skin behind the ear and is brought forward (rostrally) to close the wound.
Brave Louis' wounds have healed, and he is now happy at home with his mum πŸ’Ÿ

Dante was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia, which was causing pain and early arthritis development. Due to the severity of changes to his left hip, he underwent a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) procedure on that side which allows a false joint of scar tissue to form. As his right hip was slightly less affected Dante was able to have a Total Hip Replacement (THR) on that side, which uses surgical implants to completely replace the joint. Now hes on the run....way to go Dante! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

🌟 Happy Vet Nurse Day! 🌟

Today, we proudly celebrate the exceptional vet nurses at The Pet Specialists and around the world!

🐾 Our vet nurses are the lifeblood of our hospital, providing expert care and compassion to every animal that walks through our doors.

In a specialist hospital like ours, vet nurses play an indispensable role. They work alongside veterinarians to deliver complex, life-saving treatments, ensuring that our patients receive the highest standard of care. From monitoring patients during intricate surgeries to managing critical care units, their expertise is unparalleled.

But their impact goes beyond technical skill. Vet nurses are often the comforting presence for our animal patients and their worried families, bringing empathy and patience to every situation. They are the dedicated advocates for every pet, no matter how big or small, working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep them safe and healthy.

At The Pet Specialists, we are immensely proud of our team of vet nurses and their unwavering commitment. Today, we honor their hard work, resilience, and passion. Thank you to all the vet nurses who dedicate their lives to helping animals in need.

🩺 ⭐️ To celebrate our incredible nursing team, we’ll be sharing a daily video over the next week, with some of our vet nurses sharing why they love what they do. ⭐️ 🩺

Beautiful little Sharkie was referred to our Specialist Internal Medicine Department by her Regular Vet for investigation of a suspected re**al stricture (scar tissue causing narrowing of the re**um, leading to pain and difficulty when defecating πŸ’©).

The usual treatment for this condition is to insert a medical balloon into the re**um under anaesthesia, inflate slowly until the stricture breaks, and then instill steroids into the area to reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
Sharkie was understandably reluctant to let us examine her sore bottom whilst awake and was anaesthetised for a full examination by Dr Josh Bool (Internal Medicine Registrar).

The endoscopy revealed no stricture formation, however her bottom was very inflamed and swollen - a condition known as proctitis. Biopsies were taken to rule out neoplasia, and Sharkie was discharged pending results. The results were negative for neoplasia, which is great news and Sharkie has commenced treatment for proctitis, so won’t have to suffer with painful πŸ’© for much longer! 🀞🏼

🌟 Hero Alert! 🌟

Today, Dr. Anna’s greyhound, Mark, donated blood at The Pet Specialists! πŸ©ΈπŸ•

Did you know that just like humans, dogs sometimes need life-saving blood transfusions? Mark’s donation will help save the lives of other dogs who are in critical need due to accidents, surgeries, or serious illnesses. πŸ₯πŸ’‰

Giving blood is vital for animals, as it can provide a lifeline for pets who are suffering from severe blood loss, anaemia, or other conditions that require urgent care. It’s a simple act of kindness that can make a world of difference! 🐾❀️
