5 months of cuddles, zoomies & fun! 🐾💕

Playful Astra had a free check-up with our Vet Nurses nurse where we discussed diet, dental health, desexing & keeping those pesky parasites, like fleas & ticks, at bay. And of course, plenty of yummy treats were on offer!

She’s feeling healthy, happy & ready for more adventures!

PS - does anyone else struggle to get good snaps of their black dogs?! 🤣

Barkley is all smiles wearing his Mona Vale Vet bandana! 🐾💙

Located on our dog lounge side table, our MVVH bandanas are available for all of our K9 visitors to use with a few spritz’s of Adaptil spray.

Adaptil spray works by releasing a synthetic version of the dog-appeasing pheromone (DAP), which is a natural chemical produced by mother dogs to comfort & reassure their puppies. The synthetic version of this pheromone mimics the calming effect that helps reduce stress & anxiety in dogs.

We understand vet visits can sometime be a little unnerving, so this is just 1 way we can work towards our K9 friends feeling more at ease! Please help yourself when next visiting with your dog. 😁

Today is Remembrance Day - At 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than 4 years of continuous warfare.

On this day, Australia observes 1 minute silence at 11.00am, to remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars & armed conflicts.

Many are unaware that as well as the traditional commemorative red poppy, there is also the purple poppy, remembering animals that died during conflict.

For centuries, animals have demonstrated an enduring partnership with humans during times of war. They have served as means of transport, messengers, protectors & mascots.

To commemorate all the animal deeds & sacrifices in war, the Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation (AWAMO) issues a purple poppy, which can be worn alongside the traditional red one as a reminder that both humans & animals have served & continue to serve.

Did you know….. today is International Human-Animal Bond Day! 💖 This day is celebrated annually on the 8th of November to highlight the human-animal connection.

The significance of our relationships with animals comes to the forefront on this day as we acknowledge a bond that transcends companionship, bringing profound emotional, social & health benefits to individuals & communities.

Findings from the latest Animal Medicines Pets in Australia report reveals 85% of those who share their lives with animals believe they positively impact their lives, providing comfort during difficult times & boosting well-being through routines that enrich mental & physical health.

This year’s Human Animal Bond Day encourages reflection on these connections, recognising the essential role animals play in enhancing lives & fostering stronger, more compassionate communities.

SEA BIRD ALERT: MIGRATORY SEA BIRDS WASHING TO SHORE NOW

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR…
Over the last week there have been dozens of reports into our wildlife rescue member groups up and down the NSW coastline of Short-Tailed Shearwaters found exhausted or deceased on our beaches.

Shearwaters are oceanic seabirds and at this time of year are on their annual, long haul, migration from the Northern Hemisphere.

Many of these birds potentially will not have gained enough body condition prior their migration to survive the journey and are now extremely exhausted. Sadly, many have now succumbed to the exhaustion and are washing up onto our beaches, not making it to their southern breeding islands. However, some are washing up still alive, which means there is a little hope they can be rehabilitated and possibly released to continue their amazing journey’s.

We ask anyone who finds an exhausted shearwater or any other seabird still alive to please call their local wildlife rescue group for advice. Importantly, keep dogs and small children well away and from the bird as they are easily stressed.

IMPORTANTLY - Please don’t handle the birds! If there are hundreds of the birds washed up deceased, please call 1800 675 888 to report the incident. If you find there are birds that are still alive, please call your local wildlife rescue group and follow their advice.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Short-Tailed Shearwaters undertake one of the longest migrations of any bird species in the world! They travel 15-17,000km to the Bering Sea annually and travel as far south as Antarctica during the Australian breeding season to feed their chicks a rich diet of krill!

Did you know..... that mosquito’s can transmit deadly heartworm to our dogs? 😳🦟❤️

Unfortunately, the condition is as it sounds - worms that live in your dog’s heart!

Heartworm disease can impact our dog’s health dramatically & if left untreated can cause death. But thankfully, it’s super easy to prevent!

A single bite from a mosquito is all it takes for infestation to occur. And with the weather warming up, mosquito’s are on the hunt! 🦟🦟🦟

So we are focusing on ways to prevent this disease in our furry family members - is your dog protected?

Pop in to reception or call us on 9999 2269 for more info.
