🦜 Spring is baby bird season, when many bird species lay eggs & raise their young. During this time, you’ll often see or hear nestlings - young birds that have just hatched & are still in their nests.
Nestlings are entirely dependent on their parents for warmth, protection & food. They are born without feathers & with their eyes closed, making them vulnerable to predators & the elements.
This newborn Lorikeet was brought in by a member of the public, after it was found away from its nest. We assessed it for any injuries then provided heating & a special baby birds liquid food until a local licensed wildlife carer could collect it.
Rearing a nestling bird is a difficult & delicate task that requires specific knowledge, time & commitment as they are highly vulnerable. We thank the amazing wildlife carers we can call on, who so passionately care for our local wildlife 💟

Gus’s mum noticed he was unable to get up onto the couch or move freely up & down stairs as normal, so he was examined by Dr Toni. X-rays revealed spondylosis, a common degenerative disorder of the spinal column, characterised by bony spurs that form along the underside & edges of the spinal vertebrae.
With a weight loss plan in place, a gentle exercise regime, pain relief medication plus Dr Al’s laser therapy & acupuncture treatments, Mr Gus is on the path to continuing his day as pain free as possible, on the golden sands of Bayview dog park!
