✨ 🦷 Did you know August is Dental Month at Mona Vale Vet Hospital? 🦷✨

Keeping our furry friends’ teeth clean isn’t just about a sparkling smile—it’s essential for their overall health!

Just like us, pets can develop dental issues that, if left untreated, can lead to pain, infections & more serious health problems.

Regular dental check-ups, cleaning & even dental radiographs (X-rays) are crucial in maintaining your pet’s oral health.

🔵 Dental radiographs help our veterinarians see beneath the gum line to detect hidden problems such as tooth decay, root infections, or even fractures that may not be visible during a routine exam.

At Mona Vale Veterinary Hospital, we’re dedicated to providing comprehensive dental care to ensure your pet’s teeth stay strong and healthy.

Call us today to schedule your pet’s dental check-up & learn more about how we can help keep their smile bright!

Raising awareness about corneal dystrophy in dogs! 🐾

Corneal dystrophy in dogs is a genetic disorder affecting the cornea, causing cloudiness like seen on handsome Max 🤍 It is worth noting that most dogs with corneal dystrophy never experience compromised vision. It's inherited and varies in severity among breeds like Shetland Sheepdogs, Siberian Husky and Boxers. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and maintaining eye health through veterinary care.

🦷Did you know….. FORLs, or Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions, are a common dental problem in cats where the tooth structure breaks down & resorbs.

This condition can cause pain & tooth loss, making early detection through dental radiographs crucial for maintaining feline oral health.

Comparable to the situation with icebergs, much more tooth (and information) is actually below the surface ➡️ And it is only with radiographs that this important additional information can be learned.

❓🤔 Not sure if your cat requires a dental scale & polish? Then book in a FREE ORAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT by calling reception on 9999 2269 or booking online @ www.monavalevet.com.au

Teddy
💛🩷🩵
This little superstar has just completed his recovery after a double exploratory laparotomy. After radiographs and ultrasounds, it was revealed cheeky teddy had eaten a towel which had obstructed his intestines, this called for an emergency surgery to remove the blockage and any damage to the bowel.

Northside Emergency Veterinary Service (NEVS) was an amazing support for looking after Teddy after hours. On the third day in hospital with us it was diagnosed that Teddy would need to go back into surgery to correct some more damage to his stomach. Dr Anne and Dr Toni were both managing this case closely and the whole team was wishing him the best recovery.

Finally today his stitches were removed and we could not be more pleased with the outcome! Thank you to Teddy’s loving family for all their support.

Can we please get a round of ap-paws for Baxter & Simone! 👏 🥳

Baxter recently completed his final chemotherapy treatment under the care of our Dr Kate. And he has become quite familiar with the team over the last few months with his chemo journey!

After Baxters family discovered a lump on his left lip, surgery was performed to remove the mass. Further testing of the lump was done with a veterinary laboratory, which returned a diagnosis of fibrosarcoma, a malignant tumour.

Chemotherapy was started by Dr Kate & Vet Nurse Alex, with Baxter coming in for weekly treatments over the course of 11 weeks.

Thankfully, for our pets, they tend to tolerate chemotherapy better than humans do. Because they receive the medications at lower doses than humans, this aids in preventing side effects. The main aim of chemo is to slow down the progression of the cancerous disease, with minimal discomfort, whilst continuing to maintain or improve the pet’s quality of life.

Baxter has responded well to his treatment & we are all extremely proud of him & Simone!

Well done team! 🐾💙🐾
