With an increase of mosquitoes in our area we have seen a couple cases of myxomatosis last week.

Myxomatosis is a virus that is spread through biting insects such as fleas and mosquitoes, it is unfortunately fatal with most cases passing after 10-14 days.

Common symptoms in infected rabbits can include:
- swelling from eyes, nose, ears and ge****ls
- Runny nose
- breathing problems
- Loss of energy and appetite
- Discharge from eyes

Unfortunately, there is no vaccination in Australia for myxomatosis so it is best to take preventative measures to reduce the risk of pet rabbits contracting the disease by following the below recommendations:
- Cover all cages with fly screen
- Make sure your pet rabbit is up to date with flea preventatives
- Keep the pet indoors
- If taking your rabbit outside to exercise avoid the morning and evening as mosquitoes are usually out.

We have received a couple inquiries last week about found baby birds.

🐦If you find a baby bird the best thing is to place the bird back into its nest if possible, as it chances of survival are higher than hand reared birds.
🦆 If you are unable to locate a nest you can create a nest by using a bucket/container with leaves to replicate a nest and a perch to help the parents get in and out. You can then hang the bucket/container on a branch (see below image) to keep away from predators.
🐥 Observe to see if the parents come down and feed it, if not you may have to remove the bird and keep it a quiet, dark warm place to keep it safe until you can reach a suitable career.

🛑 RED BELLY BLACK SNAKE KELLYVILLE RIDGE 🛑

UPDATE 04/03/24: Hank has gone home😀

This bouncy boy was rushed into our clinic on Wednesday after mistaking a red belly black snake as his new toy. Luckily, the owners noticed and bought him straight to the clinic.

Some symptoms of snake bites can include
🐾Vomiting
🐾Lethargy
🐾Shaking
🐾Collapse
🐾 Paralysis
🐾 Bleeding from bite site, nose or mouth

- If possible getting a picture of the snake can help determine the best possible treatment for your pet.
- Try to keep them nice and relaxed when transporting your pet to your local clinic.
- Call your local vet to let them know you are coming so they can prepare for your arrival.

This morning around 9:15AM, we sighted a red apricot Poodle cross (likely a cavoodle) running down Merriville Road and across Windsor Road towards the T-Way at full speed. Very fortunately, the dog was not hit on its run across the road. The dog was making its way towards Kellyville via the T-Way.

Due to the oncoming buses on the T-way, and the dog running at full-speed we were unable to retrieve the dog.

If you are missing your dog with the above description, please call veterinary clinics around us and the Kellyville area.
