Ahhh hotspots. It’s an Aussie summer thing and a common skin irritation in dogs especially with the combination of moisture and humidity 🥵 so what are they?

They are an infection on the skins surface of a dog caused by trapped moisture and self inflicted self trauma (licking/scratching). They are red, inflamed, smelly, wet, oozy open spots often round in shape and can be found anywhere over the body but I find commonly in skin folds, lower extremities & head.

Lots of different breeds are more susceptible however all dogs exposed to moisture and humidity can succumb to the dreaded hotspot.

How can you prevent them? Some good ways to manage your environment throughout summer is keeping grass short, drying off your dogs after trodging through wet/damp grass or swimming on hot days, keeping fur short so you can identify skin lesions and allow the skins surface to breath, keep your pets flea & tick prevention up to date and try keep allergens under control such as food allergies (proteins, grains etc).

By keeping the area clean and dry & keeping your dogs from scratching the lesion, these will typically heal on their own however you should seek veterinary assistance if you are concerned 🩺

I’m not a purebred snob, but it is so nice to groom a purebred. while these 2 handsome boys are a biiiig job, it’s definitely awesome to do something out of the ordinary and admire hundreds of years of perfected breeding that makes purebred dogs so unique 😍🤩😍 my back might be sore, and my eyeballs full of dog hair, but my inner dog groomer is fully satisfied ✅

I thought I would do a little video to show pet pawrents how to properly trim your dogs fringe or visor so that it doesn’t throw off the balance of the teddy bear face that I have created during their grooms. Often people will just grab the kitchen scissors and start snipping but there is a method so please if you feel compelled to cut away at eye fuzz, please do it this way ✂️ and be mindful that I can’t always fix or blend cut marks without having to go short.

Lastly it’s important to remember with a teddy bear face, it is going to be longer naturally as the length is longer then the body, and it will grow back fastest because it is longer.

I’m excited to share a creative model dog project I’ve been working on for Melbourne Royal, Medusa 🐍 I had a really nice time creating this, from start to finish I enjoyed every moment. It’s the most creative thing I’ve done and I’m so happy with how the vision came to life! She’s en route to Victoria and will be judged on 7/10, so stay tuned to see if she places 🥇🥈🥉 🤞🏻

K9Kate’s Pampered Pets was founded by Kate Kearney in 2013 and became official in January, 2014. With a Diploma in Pet Grooming and various other animal related qualifications including Certificate 2 in Animal Studies, Kate has been a mobile groomer servicing the Penrith and surrounding suburbs for 7 years. We offer mobile dog grooming from the comfort of your own home and where your dog is familiar and comfortable in our fully enclosed fibreglass trailers. Why mobile? Mobile allows your dog to be done at home at a time that's convenient for you. Your dog will be done within a 1.5 hour period (time depends on size and service) and it is a one on one service. There is no other dogs as a distraction, there isn’t several handlers from bathing to coat prepping to grooming, it’s completely one on one. Most importantly is convenience for those who are time poor due to work/home life commitments. As a busy mum I can completely relate to convenience! We use only top quality products and tools to produce an above average finish and trailers cleaned out daily to provide a clean and sterile environment. Both trailers are fully insured, the business covered for public liability and the company with an ABN and registered for GST, you can feel at ease you are using a legit service covered by every aspect. Servicing Penrith and surrounds for 7 years and many more to come. In that 7 years our trailers have seen many pampered pets and for many more, they will continue too.
