a no-kill philosophy, with a focus on finding animals their forever homes through our Foster to Adopt Program. This program is key to our organisation’s success, as it rehabilitates our animals in preparation for their new life. We focus on:
- reducing the number of unwanted and abandoned animals through rehoming
community education
- desexing initiatives, and
- liaising with other welfare organisations

We do this with a direct purpose, which is working towards the introduction of new legislation to give greater protection to all animals. This also serves to provide further direction for other registered rescue organisations. Maggie’s Rescue cares for all our animals through our amazing network of foster carers. They provide a safe and nurturing home for animals in need until their forever home is found.

Meet Pepperoni!

This 6-month-old pup is full of beans and ready for fun! Pepperoni loves adventures—whether it's a trip to the beach, a park run, or a swim. She’s ultra-friendly with everyone she meets, enjoys playing with other dogs, and is learning that cats are friends too.

True to her playful puppy spirit, Pepperoni balances bursts of energy with cozy couch naps. She’s making great progress with recall (despite some “selective hearing” moments!) and is growing into a confident water baby who adores splashing around.

Pepperoni is happiest in an active home with access to both indoors and outdoors, where she can play, explore, and nap close to her humans. A doggy sibling to play tug-of-war with would be a bonus!

Meet Tazzie!

This brindle-coated cutie is equal parts cuddle bug, goofball, and (possibly) Tasmanian tiger descendant! At just 4 months old, Tazzie is stealing hearts with his playful nature, quirky antics, and love for belly rubs. A mystery mix of staffy, terrier, and maybe kelpie, Tazzie is expected to grow into a small-to-medium-sized dog.

Tazzie adores snuggles, belly rubs, and exploring the outdoors—whether he's chasing lizards in the garden or adventuring with his foster sibling. He’s a fast learner, already mastering basic commands, walking well on a lead, and sleeping peacefully through the night in his crate.

Adoption open for bonded besties Pixie & Lola

Rarely ever seen apart these pint sized senior ladies are seeking an opulent home to share their golden years in together. Pixie (10 years old, Smooth Coat Chihuahua) and Lola (14 years old, Long Coat Chihuahua) came into care after their elderly pawrent passed away. While the experience has been very disorienting for them, being able to remain together has given them the resilience they needed for this next chapter. Pixie loves spending sunny days outdoors, basking in the warmth, and playing in short, joyful spurts. Lola prefers a slower pace of life spending her days napping, relaxing, and soaking up the love of her humans. Together these girls bring out the best in each other, Pixie with her playful moments coupled with Lola’s tranquil presence creates a harmonious dynamic that’s a delight to witness. We are seeking a peaceful home where they can relax with humans who understand their needs as senior dogs. Meet Apple Bottom Jeans – a kitten full of sass, speed, and a whole lot of curiosity! She's basically a drift car in feline form, zooming around corners and turning anything shiny into her next toy. 🌟

When she's not causing mischief, she's perched on a windowsill keeping tabs on the neighborhood. But don’t worry, as soon as she’s recharged, it’s back to the fun!

This little adventurer is full of confidence, loves her feline friends (especially those who don’t mind her stealing their snacks!), and is always up for a game. Not a cuddler, but she’ll happily nap next to you after a busy day of exploring!

Step aside Miranda Priestly there’s a new reigning champ of judgment in town and his name is Mousey. He is now taking applications from the public, he’s got his red pen out and will be taking interviews for top candidates only. 👨‍⚖️ 📝 🐈‍⬛ . Oh you think you just chose this black kitten all on your own did you? What you do not realise is that this particular shade of black was first launched in the early 2000s on the runways of Paris then over the years eventually trickled down to the domestic short hair market 💁🏻‍♀️.

Ok now onto the serious stuff, Mousey has what is medically termed resting judgment face, it’s a very real medical condition and it’s life long. What causes it? We believe that as he was taken from his mother at 2 weeks old and abandoned at a local vet he has now taken it upon himself to harshly judge everyone he meets with his eyes least he be crossed again. Picture this tiny scrap of black fluff at that age literally fighting for his life but also casting epic side eye on the humans who bottle fed him day in and out until he was strong enough to make it on his own.

Side eye aside Mousey is actually a hella sweet little lad, insisting on snuggling on your chest or on your arms between play bouts with his brothers. If you’re in the market for double trouble he’s particularly bonded with brother Marley a tabby gentleman who would never cast aspersions like his brother. Mousey is overall a social dude and would love to have a resident feline friend. He is also young enough that he could become accustomed to living with a canine pal so long as the humans of the home can manage safe and staged introductions / integration. He has met and judged human children to be entertaining though loud and sudden noises will startle him that’s all very normal for a young kitten making his way up in this world.

Lunchbox aka Lunchie aka bin boy aka hey knock that off! We have known Lunchbox for over a year now so we say this with love, what a jerk. He was dumped in a public bathroom in an Aldi bag at approximately 5 weeks old, rather than letting this get him down he seems to have taken it personally. Just like Aldi he’s a little off brand, kind of the same as a regular but tastes a little funny ya know 😉 . 5 weeks is too young to be separated from his mum and littermates, so despite having a savvy foster home yes he did miss out on some of those very early socialisation milestones you can only get from being in a litter. Would he have still been who he is today though? 🤷🏻‍♀️ who’s to say, maybe it’s Maybelline, maybe he was born with it 😂.

So who is he? He’s the dog who has sung the song of his people 🎵 through approximately every important phone call and interview our operations manager has taken at home. No we don’t mean bark or howl, it’s a very special conversation he seems to have with himself, it’s off tune, has heavy grumbling and never fails to make us all stop talking and exclaim “oh Lunchbox” 🤦🏻‍♀️.

😮 so with a voice that carries he must be a big boy? Nope we refer to him as a pocket Staffy, he’s really quite small. Oh 😮‍💨 that makes it easier right? 🙂‍↔️ take a regular Staffy and distill it down, he’s the whole deal in a smaller form all the tenacity, all the jerkiness a young Staffy and all the bowling ball ways. He’s even managed to dislocate a pinkie by mistake (or a lack of cares) with a sudden toy pull and a misplaced hold.

Through all this we adore this little jerk though, his stupid antics with other dogs in the household, his general zero f% #€s given attitude, it’s all rather endearing really. Want to snuggle up and tell him you find him funny and perfect? Ummm did you miss the part when we said he was a jerk? Yeah he’ll snub you pretty hard at a meet and greet. In time you’ll win him over once he realises there’s something in it for him, but expect a price to be exacted (usually in food). Once he’s on board you will have yourself a prototype adventure buddy who’s up to go everywhere with you, he loves joining people on 🚗 rides to new places.

So that’s our warts and all pitch about our off brand knock off Staffy bin boy. Do you like an underdog who you have to win over much like an aloof cat (who is also a menace to himself)? To be the right match for Lunchie you’ll need to be a few things:

⭐️ dog experienced
🏡 have a yard with secure fencing
🐱 🐰 🐦 be a cat and pocket pet free zone
🧒 be an adult or teen and up home
🐕 if you have a resident dog they need to be jerk dog tolerant (he loves other dogs but he’ll an annoying kid brother about it)
💪🏼 be willing to work out those arms, Lunchie LOVES tug o war (just keep a sensible grip which protects the digits)

Let’s have a chat…

💔 We’ve been getting an overwhelming amount of messages about the beautiful Babybel—asking when she’s available for adoption, if she can be fostered, etc. It’s heartwarming to see how many of you are eager to offer this sweet girl a forever home. However, while Babybel is lucky enough to have a dedicated foster carer, the reality is much more complex for the other dogs in our care.

We’ve been putting out calls for fosters for dogs that aren’t purebred Golden Retrievers, and… well, the response has been crickets. 😞

We understand—it’s a tricky time of year with holidays and busy schedules. But it’s also clear that people are more than willing to foster, but only if it’s a specific breed of their choosing. If we had 10 Babybels, we could adopt them out tomorrow. But sadly, the mixed-breeds and the less “popular” dogs often sit in care for months on end, overlooked.

We get it—Babybel is gorgeous, lovable, and so deserving of her happily ever after. But so are all the other dogs waiting for their chance, many of them in pounds, running out of time. They need you too. ❤️

Maggie's Rescue is a NFP, No Kill animal rescue group based in Marrickville in the Inner West of Sydney. We are a co-operative of carers, who are all committed to our mission, which is to save and re-home abandoned and at risk animals, initially into a warm and loving foster home until we are able to find their perfect adoptive home. 🐶🐱

Our vision is that we do this with compassion, honesty and support to all our foster carers, volunteers, adopters and the greater community.

If you are able to offer a safe home to an animal in need or if you are interested in becoming a foster carer, then you will be rewarded with lots of affection and loyalty, and a love which is unconditional and furry!

All of our rescued animal leave our care vet checked, vaccinated, microchipped, de-sexed, flea and worm treated.
