a no-kill philosophy, with a focus on finding animals their forever homes through our Foster to Adopt Program. This program is key to our organisation’s success, as it rehabilitates our animals in preparation for their new life. We focus on:
- reducing the number of unwanted and abandoned animals through rehoming
community education
- desexing initiatives, and
- liaising with other welfare organisations

We do this with a direct purpose, which is working towards the introduction of new legislation to give greater protection to all animals. This also serves to provide further direction for other registered rescue organisations. Maggie’s Rescue cares for all our animals through our amazing network of foster carers. They provide a safe and nurturing home for animals in need until their forever home is found.

Calling committed volunteers who love animals ☎️ we need you! Maggie’s Rescue relies on volunteers to get the job done and it takes a village with lots of different ways you can help.

🚗 got wheels and room for someone to ride shotgun 🐱 🐕? We have dogs and cats who need to get from a to b plus regular supply pick up and drop offs. Some runs are short across the inner west to vet appointments, sometimes we’re doing longer hauls.

🐕 🐱 foster carers, the more homes we have available the more dogs and cats we can say yes to helping. Over the holiday period some of our regular homes are going on much needed breaks and we will have animals in need of temporary care. Most of all we need people to sign up who won’t 👻 us. Screening people and inducting them takes resources away from other activities so most of all we need people who want to hang around and when they say yes they stick to it.

Adoptions open: Wish

We have just one wish for our girl, but it’s a big one. For Wish we want a loving, safe and patient home who will give her everything she missed out on for the rest of her days 🥰. Like our other mini American Shepherds she spent the first 8 years of her life inside a kennel environment with limited experiences outside that. Wish has proven to be a brave and determined soul though working through her initial hesitations and is now thriving in foster care, where she’s learning and adapting at her own pace. Her idea of a good day is a short stroll of about 1km—her daily walk is a non-negotiable part of her routine! After that, she’s content to settle by your feet, keeping you company as she potters around the house and checks in on what you’re up to. She loves human affection, but she’ll take her time to trust and build that bond. Wish is looking for a calm, adult-only home with a secure yard and people who have some experience with dogs who can continue to guide her gently through life. Wish isn’t the type of dog who thrives in busy, loud settings—she’s more of a homebody who prefers peace and stability and taking things at her own pace.

Adoptions open: Dex 🥎

Dex is a 3-year-old Border Collie x Poodle mix who’s full of energy, endless loyalty and a devotion to chasing balls. From the moment he arrived in foster care, it was clear that Dex is the kind of dog who quickly bonds with his people and thrives on being their best mate. Dex has a contagious energy and always walks around with a big smile, tongue hanging out, looking like the happiest dog in the world! He would thrive in an active home that loves outdoor activities and with his high energy a home with a backyard to explore and play in is a must. Dex would be ideal for a family with kids over 8 years old, he’s a lot of fun and loves to get involved in family activities. He is currently living with another dog and is well-behaved and social with other dogs out in the world, although he tends to be more focused on the ball than interacting with other dogs or humans at the park. If you love to be adventurous and want a dog who can keep up with you, Dex will be your perfect match.

Adoptions open: Waffle 🧇

Meet Waffle a 10-month-old Spaniel-Poodle mix who is quickly becoming the best friend you’ve always dreamed of. Waffle is sweet, affectionate, and a true companion who just wants to be by your side. He’s a bit of a gentle soul, preferring a calm environment where he feels safe and secure. While he’s got that typical puppy curiosity and energy, he’s generally on the calmer side, though he does love a good outdoor run, especially when he has other doggy friends to run around with. Waffle would do best in a quieter home where things aren’t too chaotic as loud noises or sudden movements can make him a little jumpy. He’s adaptable and settles in quickly, but a home with a steady routine and a little bit of structure would be ideal for him to thrive.

This little dude is currently in the pound and needs an exit plan, we are hoping to give him the chance to get into rescue where he’ll be fully vetted and get a chance to learn and socialise before landing himself a forever fam… but we need your help!

Meet Cendol, the playful and curious feline ready to bring joy and laughter to a new family. Cendol loves to play. Chasing wand toys, kicking balls, climbing cat trees are all on the cards for Cendol, but her #1 is water play; there's nothing more delightful for her than to splash around and track her little paw prints around the house.

As her energy levels dip, Cendol loves to snuggle up with a human and purr her little heart out. She's a delightful little one.

Maggie's Rescue needs YOU! We're looking for committed volunteers to help make a difference in the lives of animals in need. Whether you're an animal lover or just passionate about helping out, there are two key ways you can support us:

🚗 Transport Volunteers
We need people to help with transporting animals—from picking up dogs and cats from pounds and shelters, to getting them to and from vet clinics. You'll need to have appropriate tethers or crates to safely secure the animals during travel.

🎉 Event Volunteers
If you enjoy socialising and being part of a team, we have lots of fun events you can help with! From trivia nights, BBQs, markets, and more, we’re always in need of extra hands to make sure our events run smoothly and raise funds for the animals we care for.

IMPORTANT: We’re looking for people who are truly dedicated and will follow through, not just sign up and disappear. We need volunteers who are in it for the long haul and ready to make a real impact.

Adoptions open: Lello

Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was white as snow….no wait Lello isn’t actually a lamb he’s a 3 year old poodle mix on the hunt for a forever family. Sweet and affectionate doesn’t quite fully describe the amount of love he has to give. If there is a lap, he would like to be on it please. He doesn’t discriminate, he loves people of all sizes and ages, no one is safe from his requests for cuddles. Currently Lello is finding the big outdoors a bit scary and is still working on how to go for walks without shutting down. With patience and lots of positive reinforcement, there is no doubt he will learn that it’s fun to sniff and explore outside the house, but this will take time. He is a keen observer, and also non-reactive, which makes it easy for training and desensitization. He is also toilet-trained and crate-trained, and very easy to handle his foster mum is able to touch his paws, cut his nails, check his teeth, and administer eye drops without any complaints. You may notice he has some clouding to his eyes, Lello has struggled with eye ulcers in the past, they’re all healed up now though some scaring remains causing the cloudy appearance. He has been checked out by an eye specialist though and given the all clear for his vision and no currently ongoing medications are needed.

New face in foster: Waffle.

Introducing Waffle a little shy but very sweet 9 month old cocker spaniel cross poodle. Unfortunately Waffle’s home had to surrender him due to illness preventing them from caring for him. It won’t be long until adoptions open so keep an eye on our socials for updates.
As always homes considering adopting a poodle mix must be willing to commit to regular and thorough brushing multiple times a week in addition to trips to a professional groomer for a haircut every 6 to 8 weeks.

Reintroducing Kodiak (prev Koda)

Unfortunately Kodiak Bear’s adoption trial didn’t work out but that’s ok, that’s why it’s a trial. He has slotted right back into foster life though and even landed himself with one of our trainer foster homes so he’s spending his time learning a bunch of new skills while waiting to meet his forever home. Along with a name refresh his profile has also been updated to give you an even better idea of what he needs to thrive.

Kodiak is looking for a committed family who is ready for the adventure of raising a large, energetic pup and guiding him into the amazing dog he’s going to become. His ideal home is experienced handling working breeds and providing clear, consistent training. A family that can give him plenty of exercise and mental stimulation is essential. As he is a big and energetic pup learning the art of chill he is only suitable for kids over the age of 12 to avoid any accidental bowling over. Kodiak is dog social and would fit a confident, medium to large-sized dog sibling, but he can also thrive as the only dog in the home if he gets plenty of socialisation and guidance. Kodiak is not suited to life with feline friends sorry.

🥣 Oatmeal update! We’re so incredibly grateful, you guys really rallied when we need you most and we have paid a massive chunk of Oatmeal’s mammoth vet bill. Oatmeal is now home with her foster family and is now swallowing normally 🥳 Her operation, despite the hiccup was indeed a success and this little border baby can now get back to being a silly, happy puppy… with a little extra rest! We’d like to make note that all the medical decisions we make about dogs in our care are under the guidance of industry professionals, we weigh up all the options, risks and questions around quality of life, before making considered and educated choices about how we proceed. Again, thank you to everyone who chipped in to help this little dog that is so deserving of our help. Her future is as bright as those sparkling green eyes ✨

Medical update for Ruby Beautiful Ruby arrived into care late last week with ears in quite a state. Both ears had pulerent discharge, stenotic ear canals, erythema, her left ear had an aural heamatoma, the skin around her left cheek had excoriation, thickening, erythema and an open wound. Basically all that medical jargon means she had bad ear infections in both ears with her left side being worse and probably around the longest causing lots of scratching to the area and a hard lump to form at the end of the ear due to repeated trauma she’s caused to herself. The heamatoma has been surgically removed and the mesh you can see in the video is acting to hold the cartilage in place while the site heals. Poor Ruby must have been so uncomfortable and we’re very happy to see happier days ahead for her. Once her healing journey is complete and both ears are happy and healthy once again adoption applications will open 🥰.

Maggie's Rescue is a NFP, No Kill animal rescue group based in Marrickville in the Inner West of Sydney. If you are able to offer a safe home to an animal in need or if you are interested in becoming a foster carer, then you will be rewarded with lots of affection and loyalty, and a love which is unconditional and furry!

All of our rescued animal leave our care vet checked, vaccinated, microchipped, de-sexed, flea and worm treated.
