Caring for pets and their families for the last 60 years! Pittwater's kind and caring staff of vets
Pittwater Animal Hospital is one of the most progressive veterinary practices in the country, yet we haven't forgotten traditional values. Just as we have been doing for more than 60 years, we try to learn as much as possible about our patients, their owners and the lives they share. This extra effort often helps us make more informed decisions about the most appropriate treatment in your specific case.

She was found in Clareville. Please call us on 9913 7979 if you own her or know her owner.

She has been spending time with our other kittens Dasher & Prancer (who are still available for adoption) and they’ve become good friends.
We didn’t want her feeling all alone!
Let’s get this little cutie the home that she deserves!

These little cuties did not have any start at life. They came into us 2 months ago, they were found during construction on a building.
On arrival to us, they were barely conscious, a litter of 5 freezing cold & soaking wet little kittens.
Our fabulous nurses & vets got them through day 1 but unfortunately as the days went past we lost 3 of them.
Thanks to the incredible care from our foster carer, these two little fighters made it through & are stronger than ever!!
As you can see by the photos & videos, these kittens are very well handled and love other cats & even dogs.
We would love to be able to get them into their forever homes by Christmas.

At Pittwater Animal Hospital, we take your pet's health very seriously... but when it comes to our Christmas party, we know how to have a good time too!
This year, we celebrated the season with an amazing night out at Bar Viente in Mona Vale. The highlight? Our hilarious Evil Santa gift-stealing competition, which was a total hit (and caused plenty of laughs and "friendly" thievery)!
We’re so lucky to have such a fabulous team, and it’s always a joy to celebrate together after a year of hard work.
Wishing all our PAH families a safe and happy holiday season! 🎁🐾

Meet Prancer 💙 & Dasher 💙
These two little cuties were picked up by Dee why police and taken to Northside emergency hospital and from there they were transferred to us.
These two are quite nervous initially, understandably so given they have been without their mum from a young age.
These little cuties need homes that are going to be patient & understanding that they will need time to feel comfortable in their new environment.
Can we find these little cuties homes before Christmas?!

A couple of weeks ago, on a very hot Sunday. We received a phone call from a member of public reporting that they had a black & white cat in their backyard that was unable to walk properly. The member of public was unable to catch the cat as he was hissing and trying to bite them. After exhausting all options to get the cat to us, one of our caring nurses drove to Brookvale (in her own time) to rescue him.
It was very clear on arrival that the cat had tick poisoning and wouldn’t have survived without intervention.
This is how his name came about, he looked like he had broken a wheel axel because the tick poisoning had severely affected his hind legs.
Since his tick treatment, Axel has been very appreciative of his rescue. He is extremely affectionate, loves pats and loves a good head bump.
Axel has been out defending himself for sometime and for that reason we are looking for a home with NO other cats as he does become quite defensive.
Axel has had a second chance at life and we are looking at getting him in a secure home with someone to look after him so he never has to go through all of this again.

Sadie is our most long standing stray and has been with us since the 14th of July.
Sadie came into to us heavily pregnant and gave birth to 3 beautiful tabby kittens on the 12th August. You all might remember - Milo, Daisy & Coconut.
Since then Sadie has been caring for a litter of stray kittens that arrived at PAH at only 5 days old. Unfortunately not all of them survived but the two that did were because of the beautiful care from this amazing cat.
Sadie is an absolutely beautiful cat, extremely affectionate, gets along with other cats, dogs and children.
Finally it’s Sadie’s turn to find her forever home and we would love to get her that home before Christmas.
Please note: Sadie is the black adult cat in the photos. The kittens in the photos have already been adopted!

Meet Milo, an 11-year-old Pomeranian cross with a big heart and a tiny smile! 🐶💖 Milo recently came to us with an infected left upper canine tooth. The infection had caused a purulent sinus tract high above the tooth, making it clear that extraction was the best option to help Milo feel better.
Our team carefully performed the surgery, and we’re thrilled to report that Milo recovered wonderfully! 🎉 He's now back to his happy, tail-wagging self, ready to take on the world with a pain-free smile. 😁
Dental health is so important for our furry friends. If your pet shows signs of discomfort while eating, bad breath, or any unusual swelling around the mouth, it’s always best to have it checked out. Milo’s story is a great reminder of how prompt care can make a big difference!
We love seeing Milo’s sweet face around here and are so glad we could help him feel his best again. 🐕❤️ Check out the link to the extraction. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NaGGXpoiq5Y

Dr. Heidi found this large tick on a big dog today. Fortunately, the dog showed no signs of paralysis. This female tick could have laid thousands of eggs! Please be vigilant with your pets—our clinic has seen an increase in tick cases, and we’re treating many sick dogs and cats.

This is one from the archives! 📜🐾 A few years ago, we met Frank, a handsome young chocolate Labrador Retriever, who came in with a strange-looking lump. Here’s his story!
Almost a year before his surgery, a raised skin growth appeared on Frank’s right side, just behind his shoulder. Initially, it seemed like it could’ve been from his harness rubbing, but when it didn’t settle, his family brought him to see Dr. Jill King at PAH.
After examining the large lesion, Dr. Jill decided it needed to be removed. Frank came in on a surgery morning, had a sedative to relax, a routine blood test (all normal!), and then a full general anaesthetic. Once his fur was clipped, the true size of the lump was revealed – an impressive 15cm by 6cm!
Dr. Jill removed the entire mass, including the fat layer beneath, and closed up with deep, absorbable sutures and a neat 20cm incision line. Frank woke up happy and pain-free, ready for a quiet week of recovery at home. Ten days later, his wound had healed beautifully.
So, what was the lump? The lab results showed it was a Fibroadnexal Hamartoma – a benign hair follicle tumor that was completely excised with clear margins.
Today, Frank’s fur has fully grown back, and you’d never know he had surgery! He’s as handsome as ever and back to his adventures. 🐶💙

From the Archives: When Should I Worry About a Lump on My Dog? 🐾
This is a common question with no simple answer!
As dogs age, they often develop various skin and under-the-skin lumps, like lipomas, sebaceous adenomas, skin tags, and sebaceous cysts. While these can be unsightly, they’re often harmless.
So, when should you be concerned?
Our vets are skilled at examining lumps and discussing options with you. Removing a lump typically requires surgery under general anaesthetic, so it’s essential to carefully assess each case.
A good rule of thumb? During your dog’s annual vaccination, write down any lumps you’ve noticed so we can review them together. Some lumps might need a fine needle aspirate—a quick test that can provide valuable information (an extra charge applies).
Surgery is generally recommended for lumps that are rapidly growing, changing, located in tricky spots, or are excessively large. Trust your instincts, too; if a lump once considered harmless starts changing or causes concern, it’s worth revisiting.
This is Kel, a 10-year-old Labrador. 🐶 His owner noticed a skin lump on his inner thigh had started to change, prompting a vet visit. Dr. Tanian performed a fine needle aspirate, which showed it was likely a Mast Cell tumour.
Kel went in for surgery with Dr. Jill, who, upon anaesthetising him, discovered the lump had a deeper swelling below. This is common with Mast Cell tumours and meant a wider margin was necessary for safe excision.
As you can see, Kel was left with a large incision to ensure complete removal. He had to stay calm and wear an E-collar to protect the wound. One week later, despite his best efforts to remove his E-collar and lick the stitches out (!), his wound was healing beautifully. Lab results confirmed it was a Grade 1 Mast Cell tumour, fully removed—a fantastic result! 🌟
If your pet has a lump that’s causing you concern, book an appointment with your veterinarian for a thorough assessment.

Pittwater Animal Hospital is a household name on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. We have cared for people for four generations of their families including numerous generations of their animals. People know we will give honest and caring advice about all their pets. (Not just cats and dogs, we see rabbits, snakes, birds, guinea pigs and more.)
The hospital has grown from a single vet practice in the 1960’s operating out of part of a house, to a six vet hospital open nearly every day of the year. Pittwater Animal Hospital has always been family owned, never a corporate business. Our staff live locally and are proud contributors in the community. The current owners Jill, Heidi and Eamon have all worked at Pittwater Animal Hospital for many years. (Between them over 50 years!)
