We have an unexpected house guest 😅 this young man found his way to us tonight.

Riley is a 9 week old German Shepherd, we will be doing some training with him over the next couple of days and suss out what kind of home we will be looking for 💜

We are still looking for a forever home for Molly 🥰 Our little love will be ready to go in the next few weeks.

Molly was surrendered to a vet after fracturing her leg. This little love is also deaf, she may be deaf but this does not hold her back! this little one is fearless as well as independent, for the most part she lives a normal life 🐾

Molly does suffer with allergies so it is super important we find someone willing to keep her on the same diet to keep her skin under control. Molly does NOT need to be given any medication from the vets for her allergies.

Due to Molly's fractured leg, she will be prone to arthritis so we have started Molly on Antinol already, her new owner must be willing to keep her on it.

Molly would benefit from someone who is home a bit more, if you work 6+ hours per day please do not apply.

Our boys are 10 week old German Shepherds. Whilst they didn't have the best start to life, they're coming along nicely and gaining confidence around humans.

Whilst in care we are doing ongoing training and getting them back into good shape (they are very overweight for their age) they will be ready to go to their new homes in the next few weeks.

These little cuties are very smart and strong willed and will need BREED EXPERIENCED owners to continue ongoing training.

Each pup that comes into my care costs me more than their adoption fee, I am 95% self funded so the money I spend comes out of my own pocket.

My adoption fee is $680 - pups are up to date with vaccinations, flea, tick & worming. This also covers the cost of desexing, food and lifetime registration.

Only 2 out of however many I have taken in this year haven't had some kind of issue. My pups stay in care until I have done extensive training and corrected any issues they have.

Don't be fooled, this rescue may be new but I am not. I have spent the best part of a decade dedicated to German Shepherds and Rottweilers.

In the last month or so I have had to deal with some extremely rude people arguing with me about

Not rehoming females with females
No Interstate adoptions
Not adopting dogs out to people who have no breed experience

If you don't like my decision that's completely fine but respect the fact I'm doing what is best for the dogs in care.

This year has been the worst by far for rescue. The amount of dogs let alone puppies dumped/free to good home/surrendered is insane.

Some get lucky, they end up in the right hands and they'll never have a litter of their own. Some are not so lucky 😭

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Let me begin by telling you about this handsome beauty given the name Creed ❤️ by someone else . I call him Reedy, You Silly Ratbag , and Robin (Williams) …he has the same crazy sense of humour that just makes you giggle .

Creed is heading toward 8 years of gracing the world , over 2 years of gracing mine . He’s landed here from a shelter but not before trashing his transport , falling out of the trailer at 110kms an hour , doing himself some lasting injury and finally landing here after a manhunt somewhere in Central NSW 😮‍💨

Creed is a sanctuary dog . Considered “Not Adoptable” with a gorgeous red flag by his name because he likes to introduce himself to new friends with an impressive nip and gets a little antsy the sight of a vet clinic . I do kinda relate to that 🫢. The old “if you can’t handle me at my worst ..” kinda assessment that soon sorts your real friends 😉

These are the dogs you support here at Iron Dog. Good dogs that have been through a mighty rough time . He’s a true ratbag and I love him dearly .

When I type in the word puppy 4337 ads come up

There could be 10 per litter ad, a few left out of the litter or one pup left.

So how many dogs are really on Gumtree??

How many will end up in the pounds or in a rescue??

How many will go on to have puppies of their own??

Who remembers the story of Murphy?
It was only the other week I had posted about him and how he came into my care.....last week the same breeder posted another litter of pups meaning Murphy's poor mum has had 2 litters back to back 😭

I again reached out to the owner, I told him I had reached out last time round and that my message was ignored. I also told him I had a pup from the last litter (Murphy) surrendered to me.

His reply

Sorry to hear about that I have no control on who I sell to, I just hoped they went to good loving homes. I had one come back and ended up keeping her my self. My girl will be desexed after this litter as I am not a breeder and I do not want her to go through this again.

I offered to take the pups into care, I even offered to pay and desex mum out of my own pocket. Surprise surprise I got no reply from him.

No doubt at some point one of these puppies will end up in my care and mum will have another litter 😫

👏DON'T👏 SET👏YOUR👏PUPPY👏UP 👏FOR👏FAILURE👏

Most pups that come into our care are held a bit longer than usual, this is because these poor souls have not had any training. We make sure we take all the time we need to teach them a range of things before they are rehomed.

‼️PLEASE NOTE ‼️
Before anyone says socialisation is the most important, alot of the pups we get in care aren't fully vaccinated so they're not allowed out and about.

We cannot stress how important the below points are!

🐾Setting a routine - providing structure in your daily life helps them make sense of an otherwise unknown world! They need to know what to expect and when.

🐾Toilet training - keeping on top of their toilet training is crucial! Making sure they are taken outside frequently is essential.

Puppies don't have full bladder capacity until they are approximately 12 months old so the more often they are let outside the better.

It is easy for your pup to get distracted by sights and sounds so teaching your dog to go to the toilet on cue can be helpful in saving you time as well as helping you toilet train your pup!

🐾Food training - by approaching your pup whilst they have food whether it be touching their food or bowl as they are eating will help your pup understand you are not a "threat" to their food. This will not only eliminate any food aggression issues in the future, it will also help if you ever need to get something out of your pups mouth!

🐾Noise desensitisation - this is a good way to keep your pup calm in situations that may otherwise make them anxious.

Teaching them that not all loud noises are a threat is crucial! Day to day noises like vacuuming, hairdryer, loud tv, washing machine and even walking through the house heavy footed will help desensitise your pup.

Calmly taking them to the back door to listen when there are fireworks or thunder at a young age is also important, by you not reacting to them it shows them that they aren't a threat.

🐾Handling - by exposing puppies to positive handling experiences from an early age, it helps them be calm and quiet in order to be handled in various situations such as having their nails clipped, getting groomed and vet examinations.
This can be done by:
Touching their paws
Running your hands down their back and legs
Putting your hands on their face

🐾 Lead training - whilst puppies are not allowed outside into the real world until they have had all their vaccinations, it is crucial too start lead training immediately.

Training your puppy how to walk nicely on a lead around the house will not only benefit them but you too!

There is currently 966 dogs up on Gumtree in a 50k radius of the Liverpool area, 6581 dogs available Australia wide.

Gumtree needs to BAN the advertising of pets and this backyard breeding needs to STOP.

Within minutes of Molly arriving yesterday I noticed something else was wrong. She doesn't just have a broken leg, she is also deaf. Luckily for this little girl, I already have a dog with minimal hearing so I will train her like I trained him.

My dogs are treating Molly differently, they know something is wrong with her. They
have all been taking it in turns looking after her, but our gentle soul Cara has barely left Molly's side.

Rescue is team work 🐾
