Keep your fur babies safe this festive season! From dangerous decorations to toxic plants, there are hidden hazards around every corner.

Here are some of our top tips:
๐ŸŽ„Pet Proof decorations -Place Christmas decorations, presents and wrapping items out of reach from your pet.
๐ŸŽ Invest in safe gift wrapping - Keep ribbons, string and small items that can be swallowed out of reach from your pets.
๐Ÿ— Leave the leftovers and no alcohol - Many festive foods are toxic to pets and can cause an upset tummy or pancreatitis. Cooked bones can become stuck and require emergency treatment.
๐ŸŽ† Protect your pet from fireworks and loud noises - Be aware of any planned fireworks in the area as pets may become afraid of the noise. A house full of guests can be scary and overwhelming to your pet. Give them a space of their own they can retreat to, somewhere quiet with their favourite bed, their favourite toys and treats and a bowl of water.
๐Ÿ• Keep your pets secure during guest visits- Keep a close eye on doors to ensure your pet doesn't escape. consider using a pet/baby gate or leash if needed.
๐Ÿš— Keep pets safe during holiday travel - ensure they are comfortable and secure in a carrier or seatbelt harness. Pack their essentials, including food, water, and medication.
๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€โš•๏ธ Have an emergency plan in place for your pet - Have the contact information of your nearest emergency clinic on hand in case of accidents or illness during holidays.

Meet Beau, a 7-year-old Cavoodle who came to us after his mum found a tick on his eyelid that required a tricky removal.
After a thorough examination, it was found that Beau had 2 adult female paralysis ticks who had gripped on tight to the skin of Beau's ear and his upper eyelid. Female paralysis ticks produce the life threatening toxin responsible for tick paralysis.
Our vet recommended Tick Antivenom be administered to prevent paralysis and for Beau to have his luscious locks shaved to ensure there were no more ticks hiding. As Beau was up to date on his tick preventative, the potential of paralysis was low and his loving owner chose to treat as a precaution. Beau was monitored by our dedicated team of Vets and Nurses throughout the day to ensure there was no reaction to the antivenom and no onset of paralysis.
We are thrilled to share that
Beau had no signs of paralysis in the following days and continues to enjoy the beach and his post-play tick searches.

Reminder: Make sure your pets tick prevention is up to date and to perform tick searches daily.

Have you noticed your pet's gums look red and inflamed? Are they bleeding?
These, along with bad breath, are the most common signs of underlying dental disease. The sooner this is treated the better. Although these signs may seem mild, they can cause discomfort and pain. If left untreated your pets condition can lead to more serious conditions.
