Pet owners, snake season is hereโ€”stay alert! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿพ

Snakes are more active in the warmer months, and while theyโ€™re important for our ecosystem, they can be a risk to pets. If your pet is bitten or injured, seek emergency vet care right away. If possible, note the snakeโ€™s colour and patterns to assist with treatment.

Stay safe out there!

๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ Beat the Heat: Pet Safety Reminder! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ

With scorching temperatures anticipated in Sydney over the next few days, here are some tips to ensure they stay cool and comfortable:

๐ŸŒŠ Hydration is Key:
Ensure your pets stay hydrated by placing multiple water sources in shaded areas. Be mindful of spillage, and replenish water regularly.

๐Ÿก Shade and Cool Retreats:
Provide your pets access to shaded, cool spaces. If possible, bring them indoors and create a comfortable environment with fans or air conditioning to beat the heat.

๐Ÿšซ Hot Surfaces Warning:
Avoid hot surfaces like cement, which can be uncomfortable or even harmful for your pets' paws. Opt for grassy or shaded areas for play and rest.

๐Ÿš— No to Parked Cars:
Never leave your pet in a parked car, even for a brief moment. Cars can heat up rapidly, posing a severe risk to your pet's health.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Signs of Heatstroke:
Be vigilant for signs of heatstroke. If you suspect your pet is affected, act swiftly:

Hose them with cool (not ice-cold) water.
Place cool, wet towels on them.
Ensure constant access to water.
Most importantly, seek immediate veterinary attention. Heatstroke can lead to serious complications, and prompt care is essential.
Let's work together to keep our furry companions safe and happy during the warm weather!

๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿ• Beat the Heat! Ensure your furry friends stay cool and safe with these summer tips!

With temperatures soaring above 40ยฐC in Camden, it's crucial to ensure your pets are safe on scorching days. Keep these pointers in mind:

๐Ÿก Provide ample shade, preferably indoors with a fan or air conditioning.
๐Ÿ’ง Keep their water bowls filled with fresh, cool water.
๐Ÿšซ Limit their exercise, avoiding hot surfaces like sand, concrete, and asphalt.

Watch out for signs of heatstroke: panting, excessive drooling, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, dizziness, shaking, restlessness, collapse, and seizures. If you observe any of these signs, take immediate action:

โ›ฑ Remove your dog from the heat.
๐ŸงŠ Cool them down by spraying water or using a wet towel.
โ„๏ธ Place them in front of a fan or in air conditioning.
๐Ÿšฐ Offer water.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ Seek vet care if needed.

Let's ensure our pets stay happy and healthy in the summer heat! ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒž

LOLA NEEDS A HOME ๐Ÿ  ๐Ÿˆ

This beautiful girl first came into UniVets Camden after she was rescued with her 2 kittens from being stuck in a roof cavity.
The homeowners and neighbours tried their very best to retrieve all three cats by climbing through the manhole and tempting them with food. Between the insulation and wooden panels was a small cavity where they hid and made it hard for anyone to get close to them. The homeowners had no choice but to call the fire brigade. The fire-fighters came with all their gear and managed to get them in a cat trap, hooray!!!

With lots of TLC from the veterinary team at Uni vets Camden, Mumma cat and her kittenโ€™s personalities blossomed. They were all desexed, microchipped, and received flea and worm prevention. Lolaโ€™s kittens found their forever homes and are being spoilt rotten!

As for Lola, she is still waiting for a place to call home with a loving family. Lola is a timid girl, but once she feels comfortable around you all she wants is love and attention. When she gets to know her people she loves pats, and head bumps. She likes to explore her surroundings and have afternoon naps in her soft cosy bed. A quiet home where she can take the time she needs to come out of her shell would be ideal.

If you are interested in meeting Lola, please speak with our friendly reception team.

A Christmas gift from Animals in Need

It was a dream come true when the single mother and her two young children adopted Ziggy from an animal shelter just six months ago. They were then devastated by the recent phone call that multiple dogs had attacked the one-year-old Cocker Spaniel in his own backyard. A good samaritan neighbour who had witnessed the terrifying event rushed Ziggy to Uni Vets Camden. It was all hands on deck to save Ziggy's life; he was rushed into life-saving emergency surgery and then stabilised so he could transfer to a nearby hospital for after-hours critical care and monitoring. Ziggy has since been discharged from hospital, and although the recovery is expected to take some time, he is eating, drinking and in good spirits.

Unfortunately, through no fault of her own, Ziggy's owner has now been left with a hefty vet bill two weeks before Christmas. The team at Uni Vets could see the unexpected expense was putting Ziggy's owner under a lot of pressure in an already very stressful time. One of our admin team members kindly applied to the Animals in Need (AIN) fund; when we called Ziggy's mum to advise her Ziggy's bill was taken care of by AIN, she broke down in tears. You could hear the relief lifting from her as she thanked the whole team and AIN profusely.

Thanks to the generous donations from the community to the University of Sydney's Animals In Need fund, we were able to make Ziggy's family Christmas a bit brighter.
Give the gift of giving this Christmas; all donations we receive go directly to treat the pets of those who can't afford vet care.
Visit give.sydney.edu.au/ain to donate online today.
