Sutherland Shire Council Animal Shelter is a low kill animal shelter that houses stray dogs and cats found in the Sutherland Shire Council and City of Sydney local government areas. We rehome all animals that are not reclaimed by their owners after the required time period unless they are suffering due to an illness that cannot be treated or are a danger to humans or animals. The animals looking f

or new homes are housed at our animal shelter until they find their new home. We have a very dedicated and caring team of staff and volunteers who love and care for the animals during their time with us, no matter how long or short. Sara Bellum has done an amazing job raising her babies and is now ready to find her furever home!

This sweet, gentle girl knows exactly what she likes - She’s the perfect companion who loves a good pat and scratch behind the ears.

While she enjoys quiet moments to herself, away from the hustle and bustle, Sara Bellum is always ready to make an appearance when we are tidying her space she looks after or when it’s time for her meals—because who doesn’t love feeding time?

Once Sara has had her fill of her tasty food, she is ready to be loved and doted on! This sweet girl adores putting her head in your hands and getting lots of head rubs and chin scratches.

Sara Bellum will be looking for an indoor-only home for her safety.
If you’re looking for a calm, loving cat to join your home, Miss Sara Bellum just might be the perfect match!

Sweetheart Milo is an absolute delight, purring his little heart out as soon as he spots a human friend.

Milo loves to play and cuddle up with his siblings, otherwise he absolutely adores being spoiled with all the pats and cuddles you have to offer - he’ll never say no to some love and attention.

Milo loves to play and explore all things he can get his little paws on, toys are always fun and exciting to Milo. He also enjoys being the king of the castle on his cat tree on his free time!

Being the social superstar he is, we believe Milo would do well in a home with a feline friend or two he can play and cuddle up with as long as a cat-friendly social introduction is followed.

A few days ago, a beautiful 13-year-old girl was surrendered to Caringbah Veterinary Hospital through no fault of her own.

The owners were no longer able to take care of her and the nurses at Caringbah Veterinary Hospital have decided to foster her until she can find her furr-ever home.

Please meet Smokey, a cuddly, loving old girl who desperately needs a safe and quiet place to call home.

Smokey has been given a clean bill of health and has the blood work to show it. She has also been given flea, tick and worm prevention.

Please be aware that Smokey has undergone quite a bit of stress recently and will most likely be a little anxious initially in her new home. However with some patience, love and time, Smokey is sure to find her footing in her new home.

She needs someone who can show her patience and compassion as she finds her confidence again. As a senior girl, chance can be a little daunting but some TLC and support, Smokey will slowly but surely come out of her shell and reveal her beautiful, loving nature.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!!! ❤🐾❤

Little Miss Pip was adopted a few months ago. She came to the shelter as a scared 6 week old puppy, she was being fostered by some of the staff members at the shelter, as she was too little to stay at the shelter.

She is now thriving in her new home! She loves doing some gardening with her new owners and she loves going to the beach. She is a super intelligent pup who passed puppy school with flying colours!! Sometimes she still loves to destroy some of her toys.

We hope you continue to have a long and happy life with your beautiful new family, we hope you get spoiled with lots of love and affection.

Cookie has come a long way whilst at the shelter. He came to us with three of his siblings, all of which were quite scared and unsure of people.
Cookie has quickly come out of his shell and blossomed into quite the curious kitten! He is a funny, cheeky, sweet boy who enjoys pats and cuddles from whomever is willing to provide them.
He will do well in an indoor only home and will most likely get along with other potential feline friends.

Pet of the week! 🍝🐶💕Meatball🍝🐶💕

Let me introduce you to the lovely Meatball. He is a sweet, goofy and affectionate dog, who would be a great addition to most families.

Meatball is a very friendly dog, who would be great with kids, we would recommend slightly older kids, as he jumps and can be very excitable. Meatball would do well in a home with plenty of exercise, attention and guidance. Meatball absolutely adores everyone he meets, he loves going on his daily walks with volunteers, chomping on treats and having a big snooze at the end of the day.

Meatball seems to get along with other dogs, he enjoys playing in the yards along side them. However, a meet and greet would be required to ensure the dogs are the best companions.

Meatball is still learning the ropes and mannerisms when it comes to obedience, especially around self-control during playtime. Some training would help him thrive and be the best dog. Meatball is easy going and eager to please. With patience and consistency Meatball will form a strong bond with his furever family.

Meatball is approximately 1 year old. Meatball has been at the animal shelter since 07/01/25. The adoption fee for meatball $418 which includes desexing, microchipping, lifetime registration, vaccination and up to date worm and flea history.

What do your dogs like to do on a hot summers day? Holly, like many of our dogs, loves a good splash around in a clam shell to keep herself cool. Holly also loves interactive toys like her slow feeder, snuffle mats and kongs and she loves a game of tug of war. Holly also loves a good stuffed toy, but unfortunately they don’t always last long in her presence. Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and came to our open day to support us. We had a total of 10 cats and 1 dog find themselves a new home this week and several meet and greets scheduled for the following week.

Sutherland Shire Council Animal Shelter is a low kill animal shelter that houses stray dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, roosters and goats that are found in the Sutherland Shire Council and City of Sydney local government areas. We re-home all animals that are not reclaimed by their owners after the required holding time period, unless they are suffering due to an illness that can not be treated or are a danger to humans or animals. We work with reputable rescue groups when necessary to help all animals who come into our shelter to ensure they are given the care that they need. The animals looking for new homes are housed at our animal shelter until they find their new home, with no time limit ever placed on their stay with us. We have a highly dedicated, passionate and caring team of staff and volunteers who love and care for the animals during their time with at the shelter, no matter how long or short.
