Hi my name is….. BUDDAH!

S*x: Male
Breed: American Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Age: 1 (DOB 28/11/22)
Ref: 102486

Buddah has been at the animal shelter since 8/4/24

Buddah is an absolute love bug who thinks he's a giant lap dog, and we're not going to tell him otherwise! This gentle boy is remarkably calm for his size and age, making him the perfect cuddle companion. His favourite thing in the world is a good belly rub.

When it comes to walking on a lead, Buddah is a star. He follows commands well and is eager to please, so with a bit of additional training, he’s sure to excel even further. While he has shown some reactivity towards other male dogs, he might get along well with a female sibling, provided they have a successful meet and greet.

Due to his gentle nature, we believe Buddah would do well with children who are not afraid of big dogs and are old enough to respect his space when needed. He has a playful side too and loves his toys, handling them gently without destroying them—even plushies are safe with him!

However, Buddah is a talented fence jumper, so he will need a home with high, secure fencing made from Colorbond or similar materials to ensure he stays safe.

If you’re looking for a loving, gentle giant to join your family, Buddah could be the perfect match!

Desexed and ready to go!

Pet Of The Week! 🐕‍🦺💙🐾 Tiago 🐾💙🐕‍🦺

With several recent successful adoptions of our long-term residents, Tiago now holds the title of the longest canine shelter resident. He’s hoping to pack his bags and head off to his new life before hitting his one-year anniversary at the shelter, just a few months away.

Tiago is an energetic boy who loves to show off his adorable zoomies whenever he gets the chance! He’s a puppy at heart, eager to please everyone around him. With his happy demeanour and big smile, Tiago would benefit from further training to keep him sharp and help him learn some more doggy manners. He might be a bit of an airhead, but that’s part of his charm. Tiago is also quite chatty, often sharing his thoughts about the day through whining and, if you’re lucky, some adorable, quiet howls.

Tiago has shown some signs of dog reactivity, so we believe he would do best as the only dog in the household. Due to his large size and bouncy nature, we recommend that Tiago be placed with children over 12 years old, as he might accidentally knock over or scare smaller children during play.

Although selective with canine company, Tiago absolutely loves human attention. He’s a sucker for pats and cuddle sessions. Tiago also has a fondness for toys, especially squeaky ones, and would love a home where he could keep his human friends company and enjoy some playtime during the day. He’s always excited to show off his new toys!

If you’re looking for a loyal, playful companion, Tiago might just be the perfect match for you. Come meet him and see if he’s the new best friend you’ve been searching for!

Tiago is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier approximately 6 years of age. Tiago has been at the animal shelter since 18/10/23. The adoption fee for Tiago is $399 which includes his desexing, microchipping, lifetime registration, first vaccination and flea and worm history.

Hi! My name is SPRINKLES!

S*x: Female
Age: 6 Months
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Ref: 12080

Sprinkles has been at the animal shelter since the 23/05/2024.

Sprinkles is an incredibly sweet and loving feline who seems to adore everyone she meets!

When she first arrived at the shelter, Sprinkles was a little shy and unsure – which isn’t all that surprising when you think about all the changes this beautiful girl has been through. But with a little patience, love, and care, she blossomed into the loving sweetheart she truly is.

Just about any pat or cuddle seems to elicit a purr from this adorable kitty, affection and love truly makes her the happiest kitty in the world. There's no denying Sprinkles is extraordinarily affectionate, and her purrs let you know just how much she values your companionship. One of her charming habits is resting her chin on you – a simple yet sweet way of expressing her appreciation of your presence.

Sprinkles is looking for a forever home where she can be safe and sound, warm and loved as an indoor only companion. She is perfectly content with a cozy nook in your home where she can lounge and watch the world go by from a window. Sprinkles has shown potential to sharing her space with another cat friend or two, pending a cat-friendly introduction to ensure they'll be the best of friends.

So, if you’re searching for an adorable, super affectionate, and charming new companion, Sprinkles may just be the perfect fit!

Hi! My name is JESSOP!

S*x: Male
Age: 14 Weeks
Breed: Domestic Short hair
Ref: 102523

Jessop has been at the animal shelter since the 11/06/2023.

Little Jessop is an incredibly sweet soul with the most purr-fect personality to match! He is a playful, loving little guy. He's the kind of kitten that will charm you with his sweet chatter and affectionate ways.

Jessop loves to chat and will always let you know when he wants attention or playtime! He's also quite the social butterfly and loves being the centre of attention - he'll never say no to a loving pet or a scratch behind his ears.

Equally, Jessop adores playtime, especially with new toys. He has a fondness for wand toys and ball track spinners. He is also just as happy to play with bell balls and little plushies he can bat around. His playful nature lends itself to plenty of fun-filled hours, where you'll be amazed at his skill and dexterity.

Jessop is a confident boy and could be open to sharing his new home with another feline friend or two, given a cat-friendly introduction. He would love to have some cat-savvy children around to dote on him and join him playtime. With all the attention he's sure to receive, this friendly feline will be in heaven!

Jessop is an indoor-only kitten, and he must remain so to ensure his safety and well-being. This will also give him more opportunities to bond and build a loving relationship with his new family.

In conclusion, Jessop is a delightful cat who exudes sweetness and charm. If you're looking for a playful, interactive, and loving companion that will brighten your home, Jessop could just be your perfect match.

Hi! My name is ZENA!

S*x: Female
Age: 1 Year
Breed: Kelpie
Ref: 102497

Zena has been at the animal shelter since the 20/05/2024.

Zena is an incredibly smart, playful, and hyperactive girl. This small but mighty dog has an intense drive to learn, and an eagerness to please her owners.

Zena is a highly active dog who thrives with an extensive amount of stimulation and enrichment. Hence, daily physical exercises and mental exercises such as puzzles, or training games are part of her ideal daily regimen.

Due to her activity level and her nature to be eager to please and learn, Zena may be a possible sport dog prospect, or perhaps even a working dog on a property as she is registered as a working dog.

In terms of her perfect home environment, Zena would fare best on a larger property where she can fully enjoy her activity levels. Our playful princess loves having room to roam and plenty of excitement to keep her occupied. So, a large backyard with secure fencing would be an absolute dream for her!

Due to her active and driven nature, Zena would be best matched with an owner who has experience with similarly high-energy breeds. As a complex and intelligent canine, she would thrive best with someone who is familiar with her level of energy and desire to please.

Though Zena is highly enthusiastic in her interactions, she has displayed potential for harmoniously living with dog-savvy children. She may also welcome sharing her spot with another active canine who matches her energy and zest for life.

Zena is an energetic gem eager for a home that can match her zest for life, her intelligence, and her desire to play and please. So, if you are an experienced dog lover looking for an active furry friend, Zena might just be the perfect companion you've been looking for!

Age: 6 Years
Ref: 11885

Tiago has been at the animal shelter since the 18/10/2023.

Sweetheart boy Tiago has his bags packed and is ready to move in with his forever family!

Tiago is a beautiful dog inside and out; he is so eager to share his love and affection with whoever happens to look in his direction! He truly is a ray of sunshine who never fails to brighten our day.

He is a chatty boy who often has a few things to stay about his day in the form of whining and if you're lucky, some adorable, quiet howls.

Tiago is an active boy who loves to show off his adorable zoomies whenever he gets the chance! He is a puppy at heart who is just eager to please everyone around him.
He is a smiley, happy boy who would benefit from further training to keep him on his toes and help him learn some more doggy manners.

So far, Tiago does not seem to mind other dogs but a meet and greet would be ideal to ensure any Tiago and any new doggy friends would be the best of pals.

Tiago would absolutely love a home where he could keep his human friends company and have some play time during the day, he loves to show off his new toys!

Hi! My name is XENA!

S*x: Female
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Mix
Age: 2 Years
Ref: 12034

Xena has been at the animal shelter since the 2/04/2024.

Meet Xena, a sweet and cuddly girl who will wiggle her way into your heart!

Xena is an incredibly good-natured dog who loves nothing more than a good pat and cuddle. Love and attention from her human friends makes her one happy dog.

She is generally quite chilled, however she does have occasional bouts of zoomies, showing off her speed and silly side.

Xena has a bit of a playful streak and loves her toys, particularly the squeaky ones and plushies. Even though they might not last very long with Xena's enthusiastic play style, the joy they bring her makes it all worthwhile!

She also enjoys going for walks and exploring the world around her. For Xena, each new path walked, and every new scent discovered is an exciting adventure.

Although Xena loves people, she prefers to be the only dog in the household or share her space with a calm male dog. Prior to adoption, we would recommend a meet and greet session to ensure a smooth transition and compatibility.

Xena seeks a family who will match her love for life and can give her the undivided attention she adores. She'll reward you with unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship. Her bright eyes, friendly demeanour, and gorgeous smile will warm your heart and brighten your home. If you're ready to welcome a cuddle bug into your family, Xena may be the perfect addition for you!

Pet of the Week – 😺🧙‍♂🐾 ALOHOMORA🐾🧙‍♂😺

Meet Alohomara, the most charming and affectionate feline you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting!

She is an affectionate girl and is definitely not one to shy away from a good pat and cuddle. Alohomara has a very sweet nature about her, making her the purr-fect companion for someone looking for an adorable cuddle buddy.

Alohomara has a fondness for play. Bell balls and plush toys are currently her top two picks, but she does enjoy variety during her playtime and loves to have her toys changed around to offer her something new and exciting to play with.

This sweetheart is also flexible when it comes to the company of other cats. She could potentially share her living space with a feline friend with of course a cat-friendly introduction to ensure both kitties are happy and comfortable.

Alohomara is looking for an indoor only home where she can spend her time warm and safe as well as keeping her forever family entertained.

Hi! My name is BARNEY RUBBLE!

S*x: Male
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 8 Months
Ref: 12058

Barney Rubble has been at the animal shelter since the 3/05/2024.

Found as a lonely stray, Barney slowly and steadily built trust over three months with his finder until he was ready to enter our care. It wasn't easy in the beginning, but Barney's courage has since surfaced, and it's evident that he is a cat who loves love. It was clear he was utterly heartbroken with the situation he found himself in, without his trusted human and in a new, scary place.

Barney is initially a bit timid, but with a little patience, his gentle and affectionate nature comes to light. He has an endearing personality beneath that timid shell, and once he feels secure, he'll warm up and be your loving companion.

Barney feels most secure when he's cocooned under a warm blanket, where he often retreats for a nap or when he's feeling a little shy. But there's nothing to worry about, as he usually emerges before long to seek out some affection.

One of Barney's preferred ways of connecting is through gentle pats and cuddles. He just can't resist leaning into a good chin rub or ear scratch! Barney may be open to sharing his home with another feline friend or two with a cat-friendly introduction.

Barney is looking for home where he can be an indoor-only cat. He's more comfortable in familiar surroundings and would love a place he can explore freely at his own pace. A cozy spot with soft blankets for him to snuggle in would be perfect. Barney would thrive in a home that offers a patient and gentle approach, allowing him to navigate his way at his own speed.

Barney Rubble is a sweet soul who would appreciate someone who understands his need for a peaceful home. He's ready for the next step in his journey, and all he needs is that perfect person or family willing to offer love, comfort, safety, and plenty of soft blankies.

12/06/2024

Our lovely Moe has been feeling a bit down after spending six months at the shelter. Usually, he’s a quiet, clean, and calm dog who enjoys cuddling with his blankets and chewing on his toys but for his first adventure out of the shelter in six months, Moe was eager to change his scenery and go, go, go!!

He couldn’t sit still in the car, wagging his tail excitedly and peering out of every window he could find. At the beach, he was off, sniffing and exploring to his heart’s content. He didn’t love the water, but the sand mountains were full of new smells and textures.

After the beach, he had a long run at the park, thrilled to be able to run around. He frolicked in the grass but kept routinely checking in with his handler to make sure he hadn’t gone too far.

When the park adventure ended, Moe was reluctant to leave. But once back in the car, he enjoyed looking out the window again as they took the scenic route home.

Back in his kennel, Moe had a good drink of water and then curled up in bed to regain his energy, ready for his yard playtime later.

Moe is still looking for his forever home. If you think you could provide this big boy with more than just a day adventure, give us a call and book a meet and greet!

What a fantastic start to the week!

Zeak, who arrived at the shelter on August 24 2023 and is our current longest doggy resident, has finally found his forever home. We're thrilled that Zeak's luck turned around, just in time to avoid hitting his one-year anniversary with us.

This afternoon, Zeak charmed his way into the hearts of his new family. Recently desexed, he was ready to pack his bags and leave as soon as the adoption was finalised. We couldn't be happier for Zeak and his new family, and we wish them a fun-filled life together.

With Zeak's departure, our current Pet of the Week, Soda Pop, now holds the title of longest doggy shelter resident. We hope this sweet girl also finds her special person soon.

Our wonderful boy Coco is still looking for his 2nd birthday! 🐶🐾

Hey there, I’m Coco! 🐾

I strut with a bounce in my step wherever my paws take me. Whether I'm zooming around, exploring on walks, or sunbaking, I'm always having the best time! ☀️

Toys? Oh, I LOVE them all! 🎾🧸🦴 Especially my chew-bone – it’s my favourite for some chill time after a good walk or before a snooze. 😴

I get along well with other dogs and would love a canine buddy to share my adventures with. And if you’ve got kids over 10 who are ready for fun, I’m sure we’ll be the best of friends! 🐶👧👦

My second birthday is coming up this month and my birthday wish is to find a loving family! 🎂🏡 Could that be you? >> https://tinyurl.com/26au5a7h

Hi! My name is LENNY!

S*x: Male
Age: 4 Years (DOB 20/09/19)
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix
Ref: 12045

Lenny has been at the animal shelter since the 09/04/2024.

Meet Lenny, your own personal teddy bear with a unique bark! This happy-go-lucky pooch is a bundle of joy, full of loving affection and plenty of tail-wagging excitement. With his endearing personality and his love for pats and cuddles, we're sure Lenny will melt your heart!

Lenny is as versatile as they come; whether it's a good play session in the backyard or a cozy chill-out session on the couch, he's happy with either.

His love for walks is just as infectious as his spirit. So, whether you're an exercise enthusiast, or someone who loves a leisurely stroll, Lenny would be thrilled to accompany you. Lenny has pretty good leash manners to match his easy-going nature!

Being the star of the show, Lenny prefers to be an only dog. While he loves human company, he can be a little reactive to other male dogs.

If you are looking for a vibrant and loyal companion who is always ready for a walk, a snuggle, or a play, Lenny is your guy. His wagging tail, unique bark, and loving nature are sure to bring a smile to your face and warmth to your home.

Pet Of The Week!!! 🌷🐶🐾SODA POP🐾🐶🌷

When Soda Pop arrived at the shelter, she was quite scared. Our dedicated staff have been working tirelessly to earn her trust and build her confidence. Soda Pop is slowly opening her heart, learning that not all humans are a source of fear. With patience, gentle encouragement, and positive interactions, she is discovering that the hands reaching out to her are filled with care, not harm. As we continue to witness Soda Pop's progress, we are committed to providing the environment and support she needs to thrive.

Soda Pop is on the path to becoming a loving and loyal companion. If you are ready for the rewarding experience of helping a dog rebuild trust, we invite you to consider welcoming Soda Pop into your home.

Soda Pop needs a home with a patient and experienced owner who will provide training and guidance using force-free methods. She is not suitable for a home with children or cats, but she may do well in a home with another quiet dog, pending a meet-and-greet. Soda Pop does not like to be in enclosed spaces.

While it takes time to earn Soda Pop's trust, once she is comfortable, she loves a good cuddle. Treats are the way to Soda Pop's heart, and she loves her toys, especially her rope toy. She also enjoys playing fetch, though she hasn't quite mastered the concept of dropping the ball to continue the game.

Soda Pop is a female Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Kelpie approximately 1 year of age. Soda Pop has been at the animal shelter since 31/08/2023. The adoption fee for Soda Pop is $399, which includes her desexing, microchipping, lifetime registration, first vaccination and flea and worm history.

Hi! My name is DIESEL!

S*x: Male
Age: 1 Year (DoB: 06/03/2023)
Breed: Bull Arab X Irish Wolfhound
Ref: 12060

Diesel has been at the animal shelter since 05/05/2024.

Meet Diesel, the one-year-old bundle of joy who is as fun and spunky as they come!

Despite his impressive size, Diesel is just a pup and is full of life and enthusiasm. His playful and active nature is sure to bring endless entertainment and love to his new home.

He's a big fan of playtime and enjoys getting his paws on anything fun. Be it a chew bone, a squeaky ball, or a plushie, Diesel loves them all! His high spirits and bright personality turn everyday activities into fun adventures.

Diesel is always up for a walk. Whether it's a stroll around the neighbourhood or a hike in the wilderness, Diesel is ready to explore right along with you. This excitable young dog is ready to discover the world and all the fun it offers.

He just might enjoy a canine companion; If you have another dog in mind, we recommend a meet and greet to ensure that Diesel's lively nature meshes well with his potential pal.

Older, dog-savvy children would be a great match, as well as an environment where Diesel's happy energy can flourish. With some further training, Diesel is sure to become a well-mannered and endearing member of any family.

Not only will Diesel fill your house with happiness, but he'll also bring endless energy and zest to your daily routine. If you're looking for a fun and happy best friend, Diesel might just be your picture-perfect match!

Our Story

Sutherland Shire Council Animal Shelter is a low kill animal shelter that houses stray dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, roosters and goats that are found in the Sutherland Shire Council and City of Sydney local government areas. We re-home all animals that are not reclaimed by their owners after the required holding time period, unless they are suffering due to an illness that can not be treated or are a danger to humans or animals. We work with reputable rescue groups when necessary to help all animals who come into our shelter to ensure they are given the care that they need. The animals looking for new homes are housed at our animal shelter until they find their new home, with no time limit ever placed on their stay with us. We have a highly dedicated, passionate and caring team of staff and volunteers who love and care for the animals during their time with at the shelter, no matter how long or short.
