1. Brush their coat: Start by using a slicker brush, pin brush, or a mat breaker to gently work out the tangles.
2. Use a detangling spray: Spray a detangling product onto the matted area to help lubricate the hair and make it easier to comb through.
3. Work slowly and carefully: Use your fingers or a comb to gently tease out the mats, working from the end of the hair towards the skin.
4. Avoid using scissors: Cutting the mats can be dangerous and may result in cutting your dog's skin. If the mats are severe, consult a professional groomer.
5. Reward and relax: Make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible for your dog.

Remember, prevention is key! Regular brushing and grooming can help prevent mats from forming in the future.
