Keyhole surgery, also known as laparoscopy, is becoming an increasingly popular option for desexing procedures due to the far less invasive approach. The entire surgery is performed through two tiny incisions rather than a larger abdominal opening. Smaller incisions are less painful and reduce recovery time providing significant benefits for your new fur baby. The Vetmed team strive to ensure you can make an informed choice when it comes to your new fur family member, so check out our latest blog to understand what keyhole surgery is, how it differs from traditional desexing, and the advantages it can offer your pet.

The easter bunny is busy preparing for his Easter run a little later this year, in mid April, which means this is your cue to hop to it and secure your pet boarding bookings now.

Mainstream boarding facilities can sometimes be daunting or unsuitable for older or sick animals, but at Vetmed, we offer a relaxed, calm atmosphere with fewer kennels/animals, a design that minimises stress and maintains high-level hygiene standards. Our indoor boarding facilities are air-conditioned for year-round comfort, and with a qualified Vet and nursing team in attendance, we care for pets with chronic illnesses, pets who require medication, elderly pets (over 10 years), pets recovering from minor surgery, and pets with incontinence issues. Book today for a stress-free stay!

Our pets curious personalities are part of what makes them such wonderful companions, but sometimes their curiosity can cause them to get into things they shouldn’t – smelling, tasting and eating whatever sparks their interest. March is National Poison Prevention month, so it's a good time to do a bit of a check that any potential poisons around the home or garden are out of harm's way. Ensuring food containers are sealed, medications and pesticides are well out of reach can help prevent any nasty accidents. If you are concerned about your pet having ingested something dangerous, you need to act fast, so please call Vetmed for advice immediately before attempting any home remedy to ensure the right course of action.

Pardon, what's that you say? Ahh, its world hearing day again! A day to celebrate all things ears and the enjoyment they bring! We love listening to the comforting purr of our cat patients, and the excited barks of our pooch's! No doubt our pets have some favourite sounds of their own - the opening of the food container perhaps? But did you know that your puppies and kittens came into the world without the ability to hear well due to their ear canals being completely sealed shut at birth! They open up over the first few weeks of their life, hearing their first sounds at around 2 weeks of age!

Inspired by the famous book "All Creatures Great and Small", Dr Lauren Walker is a vet in demand. Working with the Vetmed team since 2017 Lauren grew up on a Cashmere goat farm, where she owned a menagerie of pets including pet rats and a peacock. Lauren moved to Sydney to complete a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and since graduating, Lauren has completed over 3 years of additional study in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pathology, and is currently one of only 10 people in Australia undertaking her Chartered Veterinary Practitioner Accreditation, a qualification that aims to create a widely-accepted mark of excellence in the veterinary profession recognised by veterinary professionals and the general public. Laurens warm and caring nature, along with her expertise, makes her services highly sought, and she has a very loyal following of clients, so we suggest booking in advance for your time with our lovely Lauren.

As our beloved furry friends age, they require extra care and attention to ensure they live their golden years to the fullest. Just like humans, senior pets undergo physical and mental changes that may require adjustments to their lifestyle and additional consideration during times of separation. If you are heading away, here are our tips to ensuring your senior pet remains healthy, happy, and comfortable until your return.

Their unconditional love and excitement on our arrival home is unmatched, so why not show your furry life companions some love this Valentines day! Yes, you could always try baking some of your own doggie treats, but the pawfect valentines gift for the special pet person in your world doesn’t need to cost a cent! Your time is probably the most appreciated of all gifts, so why not block out the diary for some dedicated cuddle time on the couch, a long walk together in the fresh air, an extended game of catch at the park, or some extra brushing time if that is their thing. No doubt those adoring puppy eyes or comforting purrs will confirm their appreciation and have everyone feeling the love.

It's only February but we are already blushing and cranking the tunes for our happy dance for another 5 star review! Thank you Vicki (and Chilli!) for your kind words. We look forward to welcoming you both back soon!

As the temperature rises and we get used to soaking up the summer sun, it’s vital to remember that our pets experience heat differently to us. Dogs and cats don’t sweat through their skin, they rely on panting and releasing heat through their paw pads and nose to regulate their body temperature. This makes them more susceptible to heat-related issues such as heatstroke, so understanding how to keep your pets cool is vital. Read more in our latest blog.

Just like people, dogs are prone to sunburn and to other complications and diseases associated with sun exposure. But sharing sunscreen with your pooch is a no-no. Sunscreen for humans usually contains Zinc Oxide which is toxic to dogs. Applying a sunscreen that is specially formulated for your dog can lower your dog’s risk of developing serious sun-related medical issues. As with any new skin product, it is also important to patch test on your pooch, and ensure no adverse reaction a few days prior to heading out for some rays. Your Vetmed team can advise on the best sun protection options for your pet, including where and how to apply it safely.

Ah Summertime! Warm sunshine, longer days, enjoying parks, gardens and beaches.... we aren't going to let our canine companions miss out on all of this now are we?

Outdoor play and exercise is great for our furry friends, but rolling around in all that nature has to offer also means we need to remember our grooming routines. Pet grooming is not all ribbons and bow ties and looking the pride of the park. Keeping a close eye on the condition of our dogs’ skin, ears, nails, and overall look helps us to keep an eye out for small problems before they become big ones.

Our VetMed team thrive on making your pets feel their best and our grooming service has all your pet pampering needs covered.
