”The famous Italian diver Enzo Maiorca dove into the sea of ​​Syracuse and was talking to his daughter Rossana who was aboard the boat. Ready to go in, he felt something slightly hit his back. He turned and saw a dolphin. Then he realized that the dolphin did not want to play but to express something. The animal dove and Enzo followed.
At a depth of about 12 meters, trapped in an abandoned net, there was another dolphin. Enzo quickly asked his daughter to grab the diving knives. Soon, the two of them managed to free the dolphin, which, at the end of the ordeal, emerged, issued an "almost human cry" (describes Enzo). (A dolphin can stay under water for up to 10 minutes, then it drowns.)
The released dolphin was helped to the surface by Enzo, Rosana and the other dolphin. That’s when the surprise came: she was pregnant!
The male circled them, and then stopped in front of Enzo, touched his cheek (like a kiss), in a gesture of gratitude and then they both swam off.
Enzo Maiorca ended his speech by saying: “Until man learns to respect and speak to the animal world, he can never know his true role on Earth." ~ Vangelis.”

As heart-breaking as it is to say, today marks Misty’s 814th day in care 💔

After originally being seized with three other severely mistreated dogs, her friend Magenta, another who has since been adopted, and one who still requires veterinary care, Misty is now our longest-term resident 😔

At only 5 years old, Misty spent the majority of her young life tied up outside. Bound by a short rope, forced to weather the sun, wind and rain, unable to live the life all puppies deserve.

But despite this incredibly tough start, Misty holds no grudges. She remains incredibly loyal and has a sweet, cuddly and affectionate personality. More than anything, she loves people and yearns to be around those who make her feel happy and safe.

Misty deserves the world and every good thing in it. If you give her the chance, we know you will love her as much as we do. 814 days is far too long, especially for dogs as sweet and deserving as Misty ❤️

Recently, after a very successful day of adoptions, Emmeline saw each and every cat adopted around her. Each time hoping that it would be her turn to go home. But heartbreakingly, at the end of the day, she was left all alone, waiting and wondering why nobody wanted her 💔

As an older lady, Emmeline is often unfairly judged due to her age and appearance. But despite this she still tries her best to be the bravest kitty she can be no matter how overwhelmed she feels. Greeting each passerby with the best smile she can muster in the hopes of being noticed long enough to be given a chance 😔

Due to early hardships, Emmeline has no teeth. And while this only affects a few things (like eating hard foods) it does not change her simple needs and desire to be loved.

While she was happy to see her friends and neighbours find new families, more than anything she wished that she was able to find a home of her very own and someone who will love her for who she is ❤️

Please spare a thought for Emmeline. She is almost 11 years old and has just passed her 250th day in care. We would love to help find this sweet and affectionate lady the loving home she deserves.

THE CHOICE TO CHOOSE
WHY DOGS SHOULD BE ALLOWED CHOICE
Imagine that every little detail of your life is controlled - what and when you eat, where you sleep, when you’re allowed inside or outside, when you’re allowed to go out for a walk and if you’re allowed to stop and explore, who you’re allowed or forced to interact with, what activities (if any) you’re allowed to participate in, when you’re shown affection or receive attention, where you’re allowed to be touched etc., etc.…. This situation would create stress and anxiety, a feeling of helplessness, apathy, a lack of confidence and many other negative emotions. The same is true for dogs.
Dogs live in a world where just about everything is controlled by us. Allowing choice, no matter how simple that choice may be, provides many benefits. The context in which we allow choice is obviously relevant. Safety, boundaries, environmental factors, other people or animals always need to be taken into account.
Dogs that are allowed some control over their environment and how they respond to situations are more confident, more emotionally balanced, better able to cope with stressful situations, less anxious, less stressed and have fewer behaviour problems.
Allowing simple choices like which direction to take on a walk, which tree to wee on, how long to sniff that fascinating blade of grass or which toy to play with, which treat to choose, what game to play or allowing your dog to choose to interact or be touched by someone are all simple ways that we can provide choice for our dogs and help them to cope in a world that controls them.
