TICKS CAN KILL

Gladesville Vet has seen numerous tick cases over the past few weeks. Tick cases can present as symptomatic, can have the tick attached still, or can have the tick burrow found on the skin. No matter how tick cases present they require URGENT veterinary attention.

Keeping your pet (cat or dog) on Tick prevention such as Nexgard Spectra, Simparica Trio, or Bravecto - as well as the new injection Bravecto Quantum can severely decrease the chances of fatality or severe injury for your pet if they do get a tick.

Stay vigilant, and if you notice a tick on your pet or notice symptoms contact us ASAP on 98175758. Or for after hours treatment NEVS at 94522933 or SASH 98890289

Nuclear Medicine - Hyperthyroidism

Did you know that Gladesville Veterinary Hospital is the only practice in NSW that posses a gamma camera to perform scintigraphy scans? The scintigraphy scan is used mainly in pets with thyroid issues, it is highly accurate to detect thyroid growths that can be either benign or malignant, making it the gold standard test to diagnose hyperthyroidism, especially in cats.

Hyperthyroidism in cats is a common hormonal disease in elderly cats that increases their metabolism to abnormally high levels, causing a variety of clinical signs, being ravenous appetite and rapid weight loss the 2 most common signs. Scintigraphy scan or thyroid scan also provides with crucial information for the use of radioactive iodine (I131) as treatment to cure benign hyperthyroidism and even in some cases treat thyroid cancer.

If your cat has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism or you suspect that they may be a sufferer - call us on 98175758 to discuss the treatment options.

🐾🏆October Patient Of The Month🏆🐾

Meet Harry, a golden retriever who had a tasty snack of a fish line and hook.

Poor Harry did not feel well after having this snack, but thanks to the speed of his owners getting him to us and our quick-thinking veterinary team it was retrieved! Nurses Nars and Nicole are pictured with Dr Cannon To.

Have a look at some of the X-rays taken which clearly show Harry’s not so tasty snack.

Thankfully it was all retrieved without too much fuss and Harry can go back to eating edible treats!

🐾🏆Patient of The Month For September🏆🐾

Boss was our very brave patient of the month for September! He had a large tumor on his spleen and had a full splenectomy done!
His recovery journey was certainly very long but he is recovering now very well and is glad to be pain free without that large mass!
Below is Boss, and Dr Cannon To with his spleen (censored due to gore)!
But yes, it really was that big!
We are glad to see Boss feeling much better since having the surgery!
