Wulfgar Kennels

Wulfgar Kennels Breeders of Fine Giant Schnauzers and Irish Wolfhounds. For more information call, or send us an ema I started the Wulfgar prefix with Irish wolfhounds in 1980.

My second breed was Scottish Deerhounds under the Weirskints prefix from 1996. The Giant Schnauzers have been bred under the Wulfgar prefix since 1999. Our family has always had pets and my mother in Finland had the Reimin prefix achieving International champion status in both conformation and obedience with her Hovawart's and Australian Terriers. All her Australian terriers were imported from T

ahee kennels in Sydney . The first imported male was the International Champion Tahee Annalee's Vekku. My mother was awarded the “Vuolasvirta” Prize by the Finnish Kennel club for her achievements as a breeder and exhibitor. The Wulfgar and Weirskints dogs have gained multiple Best in Show, Runner up in Show, Multiple Group and in Show awards. Our Giant Schnauzers and Irish Wolfhounds are also Multi Specialty Best in Show winners. Our Schnauzer Grand champion Wulfgar Phoebe "Tasha" is the first female Giant Schnauzer to have achieved this award in the breeds history in Australia . Our dogs have been exported to Europe, Hawaii, USA, New Zealand , South Africa and Japan. We have semen in storage from our proven Grand Champions and champions. Giant Schnauzers are an alert, reliable and intelligent breed that are ideal with other dogs and children. The Giant Schnauzer has medium to high maintenance requirements for excercise and grooming as the coat does require stripping for the show dog - pets can be clipped. Giant Schnauzers require a good deal of social and mental stimulation. Wulfgar Giant Schnauzers are committed to breeding Schnauzers with outstanding temprements that excel in the Show Ring, at obedience trials and as family pets. Our Schnauzers have a proven record in all fields of endeavour for this magnificent breed of dog. For more information go to our website: http://www.dogs.net.au/wulfgargiants/default.asp

2025/3/30 JKC Sakura Annual Show 🌸in Japan
🌸 Unni 🌸 CH, J. CH Wulfgar Torniohi got CACIB, Best Bitch & BOB.
🌸 Tara 🌸 C.I.B., CH Wulfgar Foraois (8 years old) got V.CACIB, major V.CAC & Veteran BOB - with this card she now is a new Veteran Champion ✨✨
breed judge: Ricardo Saldana Solorzano (Mexico)
It is the largest dog show in Japan with just over 2000 entries.
The Best Veteran In Show judging which Tara participated was great to watch. More than 50 veteran representatives of each breed got together in one place, and though she was not picked up, it was great to be a part of this!
Unni was a little overwhelmed at the group 10 judging by the big main ring with its lights and big crowd, yet she still could perform well with good concentration😊👏
Tara's first thought in the morning when we arrived at the venue was "oh no, dog show again?? It's time we should go hiking!" 😆 But meeting both human and doggy friends made her mood much happier, so she decided to cooperate with us for showing. Unni looked most happy girl to be with Tara and one other girl Onri her friend in the ring. All in all it was a nice day for us all 💕

Memories of my mother and her breeding of the Howavarths and Aussie terriers. The spring gathering for "Reimin" Kennel owner's with their dogs at Orilampi Cottage And Holiday Center in Finland. It is a beautiful spot of Finland both summer and winter, Stephen and I visited the place number of years ago at Xmas time and did a cross country skiiing of 10km on that day.

Lure coursing fun🥰 Our girls in Japan having fun
Some dogs just love lure coursing, some not so much. I think Tara and Eva, two 7-year-old girls bred by Soile Gendle, were the keenest courser at this year's gathering. Well, I would add Salt the Airedale Terrier and May the young Siberian Husky to this Coursing Enthusiast Club too!
Tara is really mad about coursing, while Unni is still an apprentice (she can run faster than Tara, but not sure about this coursing thing yet)

Kathy Palmer's post:
Soile and I made a trip to a lovely but slightly muddy Taree to attend the Manning River A&H Association All Breeds Championship Show last Sunday 13 October, 2024.
Thank you to Soile for handling Keely on this occasion😊
Our Wolfhounds received lovely comments from all, but it was our “Finnstralian”, Keely who received the honour of being named Best of Breed, Intermediate in Group and Best in Group from our judge Mr Wayne Lewis of NSW, at only his 6th show in Australia, and a hot and humid one at that. Thank you Wayne for this result amongst a quality field of hounds.
It was also appreciated to receive a critique from Mr Lewis on our dogs. It is always good to understand why your dog was chosen for their results.
Thank you to the organizing committee for a great show and thank you to the other entrants for making us welcome and appreciating and celebrating our results. A show like this restores my faith in friendly rivalry. It was great to spend time with Cindy Brown who unfortunately could not bring her Wolfhound with her on this occasion. Thank you for the photos Cindy.
Last but not least – thank you to Sari Hottola of Oscailte Kennels for allowing this beautiful boy to come to Australia. We hope we are making you proud with Oscailte Keely Kennis. We know that this will not be the last of such great results to come for this commanding Wolfhound.

An interesting weekend, yesterday, Saturday, Liam - Ch Wulfgar Strong Protector (AI) and I made a brief appearance at the morning DogsACT show before heading off to the Queanbeyan Medieval Fair where we met up with Anita Alshira, Paul and Kathy Palmer and Stephen Gendle. The Wolfhounds got loads of attention during the time we were there. They were great with all the kids.
Today Liam and I headed back to the DogsACT shows where Liam was RUBOB and Junior in Group for the morning show.
For the Afternoon Group Show Liam went Junior in Show.
Thank you Melanie Buckley Crossley for the photos.

Congratulations to Bear and Liam for the great results

Best in Show,
Judge : Jamie Souza - Bartlett (USA)
Irish Wolfhound Club of NSW 2024 Specialty

Judge’s Critique below :
A gorgeous type bitch of high quality.
Excellent balance of length of leg to body as well as bone and substance.
Fantastic coat.
Beautiful head and expression.
Lovely head planes.
Dark eyes, perfect ears and ear set and good bite. Her curves were balanced with nothing overdone. Excellent front assembly with length and return of upper arm.
Shoulders well laid back. This gave her the long powerful neck that I love to see.
Her curves were seamless and she had a beautiful under and top line.
Good legs coming and going and an easy and active mover on the side, opening up her gait and holding her greyhound shape.
Lovely bitch and ultimately chosen Best In Show.

We had our puppy evaluation of our latest litter with our Ch Wulfgar Tyche and Ch Austonley's Falcon of Shalico (UK) - huge thanks to Sandy approving this combination. We were so happy with the first litter with Axel, that produced the two girls Kaisu and Kacie that will enhance the gene pool in the future. We are hoping to enhance the knowledge of our young group so when we will finish our breeding journey, they will be ready to continue with the combined lines. It is always a fun day and both puppies and people are ready for a nice rest. Some photos of the days proceedings.
