I took my little Coco to my vet clinic on 4 October 2025 to see if she had a urinary tract infection after getting her urine analysed the day before.
She was not urinating in her litter box, and the vet told me it was likely due to her causing her to struggle to walk to the litter box in time to wee.
I was recommended to give her to help her with her arthritis. I expressed concerns about side effects, but my vet told me it was safe and should help her arthritis joint pain.
I asked whether we need a new blood test because our last one was in February 2025. That was brushed aside too.
I should have listened to my gut, but decided to trust my doctor.
Coco appeared fine the first few days after the jab. I noticed her front right leg was looking deformed, but wasn't sure if that could have happened in the last few days. Her appetite dropped for a few days, but she still ate half of her usual daily food. I looked online for possible side effects and loss of appetite was one of them, but I was hoping it would clear up in a few days.
Unfortunately, her appetite didn't recover and she ate almost nothing. That's when I realised something was terribly wrong.
She was admitted to the my vet's hospital on 14 October, and is still there at the time of this posting.
She's been diagnosed with kidney disease and a urinary tract infection. Doctors are trying to save her by giving her antibiotics through an IV drip.
There really should have been a blood test to check for underlying issues before giving Coco a new drug for her arthritis. I was never told of all the possible side effects of to make an informed decision.
I feel partially responsible for allowing the doctor to push this new drug on Coco even when my gut was against it.
I am in tears.
What have I done?
Can my little Coco pull through this?
