Meet Duke👋, Dr. Martine's very own Kelpie. Duke is a picky eater with a sensitive stomach, making it challenging to find suitable food for him. A few months ago, Duke started on Prime 100 and Dr. Martine reports that he loves it and it’s been great for his sensitive gut.

The Village Vet is excited to announce that Prime 100 pet food is now available in-clinic at Pymble and Killara🥳. Prime 100 uses single protein diets (SPD) that comes in slow cooked stews, steam cooked fresh rolls or air dried kibble.

Dr Martine Perkins is delighted to be able to offer CBD to our client’s pets🥳. CBD is a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It can be used to improve treatment outcomes for a wide variety of conditions in pets including chronic pain, osteoarthritis, epilepsy, anxiety and anti-nausea benefits.

Do not fret ✋CBD is a non-psychoactive extract and does not contain THC, it will not make your pet feel high🫨.

Pets can take CBD in multiple ways: orally or topically. PetCann provides oils, topicals, treats and chews for dogs and oils and topicals for cats. The choice often depends on the pet’s species, preference, the desired effect, and the specific condition your vet is targeting.

Did you know that if a cat has high blood pressure it is often a sign of an underlying health issue and is more prevalent in older pets🤚.

As humans we know high blood pressure is often associated with smoking or fatty diets, so why cats? Feline hypertension is most often a secondary symptom, triggered by an underlying health issue.

Causes of feline hypertension might be kidney, thyroid or adrenal gland disease, anaemia or excess salt in their diet.

Systemic feline hypertension might lead to organ damage (kidney, eyes, heart and brain).

The good news is that it is easy to check a cat's blood pressure 🧐. The Village Vet will always test your cat's blood pressure as part of our routine screening during a health check.

To make an appointment, book online or call The Village Vet Pymble 9499 4010 or Killara 8350 5678 directly.

Here are some helpful tips to look after your senior pets best through the tougher winter months 🥶:

1/ Step up their health checks to bi-annual vet visits. Catching health issues early is critical for senior pets.

2/ Providing a variety of sleeping options will allow your pet to self-regulate their body temperatures as they need while at home. For example, having a bed that is next to a window for some sunlight or in a warmer part of the house.

3/ Cats and dogs are susceptible to hypothermia and generally should be kept inside during very cold weather. While some dogs might have sufficient hair to tolerate cooler temperatures, it’s important to take time to learn your own pet’s tolerance levels.

4/ Adjust their outdoor activities in cold weather according to your pets needs. Shorter walks for senior dogs during cold weather might help if they are arthritic or have joint pain.

5/ If your dog has a short coat or seems bothered by the cold, they might tolerate wearing a coat. Be sure to use a dry one every time as a damp coat will make them colder.

Mutual care through winter months.

Did you know... 76% of pet owners report that their health has improved as a result of owning a pet AND 87% of pet owners say that they have experienced mental health improvements from pet ownership.

We think that's pretty special!! So when your dog or cat reaches their senior years, your bond is stronger than ever. You understand each other better, you rely on each other for company and, as it turns out, you also rely on each other for good health.
