Meet Foxie!
This adorable 10-year-old Fox Terrier lives with Addison’s Disease — a condition where the adrenal glands don’t produce enough essential hormones.

🩺 Signs of Addison’s disease include:
Low energy
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Loss of appetite and/or weight loss
Weakness or shaking

An 8 month old Domestic Short Hair kitten was brought straight up the clinic when his owner noticed something shiny in his mouth and acute gagging.
Dr Danny was thankfully able to quickly perform an oral exam and removed a whole sewing needle with thread attached!
An X-ray was taken to ensure no other needles had been ingested and none were discovered.
He has since made a full recovery! 🐾🐱

🦷🪥How to perform dental prophylaxis at home and help prevent dental disease!

1️⃣ Start Slowly- Let your pet get used to you touching their mouth. Start by lifting their lips and gently touching their gums for a few seconds each day.

2️⃣ Choose the Right Tools- Use a pet specific toothbrush or finger brush and veterinary-approved pet toothpaste(human toothpaste contains Fluoride which is toxic to pets)

3️⃣ Brush Daily
Tartar forms in your pets mouth within 24 hours! If you spend a few minutes every day, the more effective your results will be.
* Gently lift your pet’s lip
* Angle the brush 45° to the gum line
* Brush in small circular motions
* Focus on the outer surfaces of the teeth (especially back molars)
❗️Always make it a positive experience—offer praise and a reward after brushing!

🏥 How can the clinic help with your pets dental care?
Even with perfect home care, pets still need dental scale and polish procedures, just like humans.
To raise awareness for the important of periodontal disease, Bilgola Vet will be starting our dental season for the months of July and August.
During this time you we offer 20% off your pets dental scale and polish procedure!

The most beautiful tiny visitor today at the clinic! 🦇

This Lesser Long-eared Bat was admitted into hospital for radiographs to investigate a swelling on her right wing.
Thankfully, no fractures were seen on x-rays and she has returned to her dedicated Wires carer for ongoing care until she is fit for release in Spring 🌼

**Please note this microbat is anaesthetised in this picture to adhere with safety practices and is only being handled by vaccinated and trained staff members.
If you ever come across any sick or injured Bat, please do not touch them and contact a wildlife organisation 🐾

Bilgola Vet Clinic are dedicated to providing stabilisation, diagnostics and medication as the first stepping stones in the rehabilitation process 🐾

We also work to further our knowledge and understanding through training and education.

‘Zena’ the Irish Wolfhound X was admitted into hospital for further investigation and diagnostics of her reoccurring haematuria (blood in urine).
Radiographs were performed and showed very large stones filling her urinary bladder!
Dr Ross performed a cystotomy the following day and successfully surgically removed all uroliths from her bladder.

To determine the exact type of urinary stone and treatment options, these uroliths were submitted all the way to the Minnesota Urolith Centre for analysis.

Zena’s detailed report showed that 97% of her uroliths were struvite crystal based! This means she can be fed a prescription diet developed to prevent the formulation of new crystals and help dilute excess minerals which can cause crystals and stones🐾

‘Whiskey’ the 1 year old Kelpie X Dingo was swiftly brought into the clinic after a possible grass seed was seen in her eye!

Dr Danny performed a thorough examination of both eyes and no foreign body could be detected. A fluorescein stain was applied to ensure there were no minor abrasions or injuries to the cornea that may cause an ulcer.

Thankfully no damage or abnormalities could be seen and she was sent home with an ocular antibacterial and anti inflammatory ointment 🥳

Lovely little ‘Luca’ the Cavoodle puppy was admitted into hospital as his mum discovered he had made his way into the bin to munch on a cooked chicken carcass!

Cooked bones when ingested can easily splinter into sharp fragments and can puncture the gastrointestinal tract as they are digested.

Emesis was induced under Veterinary supervision and Luca brought up several bone fragments without incidence and has since made a full recovery 🐾
