🌞 Heatwave Alert! 🌞
This week, temperatures are set to soar in Sydney, and we want to make sure your furry friends stay safe and cool! 🐾
🌡️ Heatstroke is a serious risk for pets during extreme heat, but with a little preparation, you can help them stay comfortable. Here are some tips:
• Stay Indoors: During the hottest parts of the day (usually 11 AM to 4 PM), keep your pets inside where it’s cool. 🏠
• Hydration is Key: Ensure fresh water is always available and encourage your pets to drink regularly. 💧
• Cool Down: Use cooling mats, fans, or damp towels to help your pets stay cool. A shallow kiddie pool can also provide a refreshing spot to cool off! 🐾💦
• Avoid Hot Pavement: Asphalt can burn paws! Walk your pets during the cooler parts of the day (early morning or late evening). 🐕
• Trim Those Furs: Light trimming (but not shaving) can help keep your pet more comfortable in the heat. ✂️🐾
• Watch for Warning Signs of Heatstroke: Heatstroke can affect all pets, and it’s crucial to spot the signs early. Keep an eye out for:
- Dogs: Excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, lethargy, bright red or pale gums.
- Cats: Rapid breathing, drooling, lethargy, restlessness, and hiding in cool places.
- Rabbits: Reduced appetite, rapid breathing, lethargy, and drooling.
- Birds: Panting, fluffed-up feathers, lethargy, and increased drinking.
If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s time to act fast and contact your vet! 🚨
Stay safe and keep your pets cool this heatwave! 🌞🐶🐱
