GAP NSW

GAP NSW The Greyhound Adoption Program (NSW), Inc. is a non-profit organisation which is dedicated to the welfare of Greyhounds. And they don't need a big back yard.

Our primary purpose is to find permanent loving homes for these beautiful hounds. The Greyhound Adoption Program of NSW Inc (GAP NSW) is a volunteer-run charity that has been in existence since 1998, working to educate the public on the benefits and care of Greyhounds, and their suitability as companions. We finance our activities from donations and membership, and are not connected to or receive

any money from racing bodies. Greyhounds are delightful dogs - they are clean, quiet, don't shed a lot, don't require a lot of exercise, and tend to sleep unless something exciting is happening. They are usually good with children, being very calm and tolerant (although children should not be left unsupervised with any dog). They are usually extremely healthy, having few inherited diseases compared to other breeds. Greyhounds coming into GAP NSW are tested for their suitability to live as a pet. Successful Greyhounds are then desexed, and spend time in a foster home learning all about strange things like stairs, vacuum cleaners, sliding glass doors, smooth floors and other normal domestic situations that are initially quite strange to them. Greyhounds are suited to a range of family situations. From young singles, young couples, families with children and retirees. Some of our Greys live in flats/units. Greyhounds are connoisseurs of comfort. They like nothing more than finding the comfiest spot in the house and curling up for a snooze. They are lounge lizards in a racing costume! (Mind you GAP does not condone Greyhounds using human furniture.) Like to know more? Perhaps you would like to become a foster carer? Or get up close and personal with a Greyhound? ROCKY would love to find his forever home for Christmas.

Rocky is quiet & relaxed around the home, he loves lounging around on the many dog beds scattered around the house. He is an affectionate lad who enjoys human company & doesn’t seem to mind being an only dog. This boy loves his food & trying out new treats. Rocky would be best suited to an adult home in a quieter suburban area (not inner city living) were he can live a chilled life. For more info check out Rocky's profile or reach out to the folk at the Greyhound Adoption Program NSW - [email protected]

How do we describe Rocky? Well, he’s definitely not huge & wild like the Rocky Mountains. He’s not freaky & loud like the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And he’s not a tough guy like Rocky Balboa. Rocky’s foster carers describe him as quiet & relaxed around the home. It took him a few days to settle in & gain his confidence in new surroundings but now he loves lounging around on the many dog beds scattered around the house. Rocky is an affectionate lad who enjoys human company & doesn’t seem to mind being an only dog. At first he was a little anxious about walking too far from home (he has come into foster care after pottering around on acreage in the countryside for the last year or so) but is now going on longer strolls each day, getting used to traffic & varied suburban noises. This boy loves his food & trying out new treats. Rocky would be best suited to an adult home in a quieter suburban area (not inner city living) were he can live a chilled life. For those planning to attend the St Ives walk this Saturday (16 Nov) please note that there will be a Chemical Clean Up day at the Showgrounds from 9am to 3.30pm. Plan to arrive a little earlier than usual as traffic may be heavier & you will likely be required to drive right around the back of the main oval in order to park in our usual location near the Douglas Pickering Pavilion. Greyhound walk leaves right at 4pm. Note Chemical Clean Up will be held on Sun 17 as well.

Hi, my name is Maximillion - but you can call me Max for short. I am a playful, energetic boy who had a grand total of one race start. I was very fast (for the first part of the race) but nobody told me I had to keep going in the same direction, so I decided to turn around & run back the other way just for a laugh! Can't you see that glint in my eye? I can be a bit cheeky at times but that's just because I'm pretty smart. My foster carers are amazed at how quickly I have learnt to use the doggy door (mastered it in less than 24 hours). And I am a natural born sitter too. I'm trying very hard to improve my lead manners as I'm a bit enthusiastic at the moment, but this big new world of pet life is just so exciting! Stay tuned to hear how I am progressing & if you want to get to know me better, reach out to the folk at the Greyhound Adoption Program NSW - [email protected]

Well little Lucy has done it again. Last night at the Dobermann Club scent work trial (Orchard Hills) we entered 3 Excellent level searches (vehicles, containers & interiors) & managed to qualify in all three! No placings this time but an "unofficial" judge's award for our interiors search - Lucy was so excited on entering the building that she did Greyhound zoomies at the end of her lead for about the first minute of our search! It was a very warm evening (31C when we arrived & still 25C when we left at 8.30pm). We'll all be taking things easy today.
