The good old cat strikes again!
We were called to a house in Bargo to remove a small red-bellied black snake that the cat had brought in from outside and decided the kitchen was a good place to drop it. While on the way, our client had left the house, and the snake was nowhere to be found in the kitchen once we had arrived, so it turned into a full house inspection. After searching for a while, it was time to search the last room, and there it was, hiding behind the blinds. Both the cat and the snake are okay. It is recommended to keep cats indoors or in a cattery to prevent them from killing our native wildlife, especially if you don't want a snake being dropped indoors by the cat.

A small red-bellied black snake we removed from a property in Picton recently. The cat had been sighted trying to hunt down the snake, and the snake took refuge between the bales of straw to stay safe. The snake had a few wounds from the cat and had to be taken for veterinary care before being released. Both the snake and the cat are okay. 👍

Last week, when we removed a yellow-faced whip snake from a local school, it was heavily gravid and ready to drop some eggs. After careful consideration, we decided it was best to house her for a couple of days in a small setup with a hide, water, and heat to reduce the stress of trying to find a new shelter or laying site.
We were able to capture some pretty cool footage of her pushing one of her eggs out.
This video is sped up quite a bit, and it isn't a quick process, so we took one video and left her be. The eggs will be incubated by carers, and the hatchlings will be released back into the bush to live out their best lives.

We were called to remove a brown snake from a Harrington Park property after the homeowners had seen the snake slither through the backyard and hide under some shade cloth. Upon arrival, Dylan lifted the shade cloth, but the snake had already escaped and was nowhere to be seen. Dylan then conducted an inspection of the yard and located a small hole in the ground beside the house. He decided to dig a bit to see how far the hole went. The hole turned out to be a crevice in the soil that was about 30 cm deep. Suddenly, the soil started moving, and BINGO Dylan had found the brown snake.

Needless to say, our customers were relieved to see the unwanted guest evicted from their yard.

We were called to do an inspection at a property in Theresa Park recently where the home owners had sighted a snake moving through the yard earlier that day. After arriving and looking at the yard there was only a couple of things in the yard that the snake could hide in/under, lucky me it was the first thing I looked in and that was the back step! This made for a quick and easy job which doesn't come by too often.

Snakes in a car are always a fun one!
During the week, we received a phone call to remove a red-bellied black snake that had made its way into a car when it was parked at the local town centre. We had Dylan on the job straight away, but by the time he arrived, the snake was well and truly playing a game of hide-and-seek. Dylan located the snake up behind the inner guard and started to undo the guard to gain better access. Well, the snake didn't want any of that and decided it would hide somewhere else. Dylan was able to locate the snake once again, but it was in a spot where if he moved, he could lose sight of the snake again. Sometimes it's just easier with two people to get the job done. When I arrived, Dylan still had eyes on the snake, and it had made its way down to the drip tray under the motor. I was able to undo a few clips and bolts before the snake tried to make a dash for it once again. I was able to quickly grab the snake and take all the glory for all Dylan's hard work 😂.
Having Dylan on board can make life so much easier, as he's just as committed as I am to getting the job done right and making people feel safe again! Even though my hand is pulling the snake out, this catch is Dylan's one! Team work 💪

Even when the sun isn't shining, we are still out and about chasing some tail, snake tail that is!
This Eastern brown snake was sighted hanging about on top of this retaining wall. These retaining walls can be a serious pain in the backside when it comes to finding and catching snakes, as the centers are all hollowed out and overlap each other, giving the snake access to the whole wall and a lot of spots to hide. Luckily, I was able to grab the snake as it tried to go straight down into the wall when I lifted the block; otherwise, we would have been there for quite some time trying to find the little bu**er again.

We were recently called out to a local high school to remove a snake that had been sighted in a classroom, but after a thorough search, we couldn't find anything... or so we thought!

Decided to take a stroll through the car park after a tip off from one of the students and bingo! Found not one, but TWO Yellow-Faced Whip Snakes! And the best part? One of them is gravid (that's snake talk for "pregnant"!)which is pictured below.

Yellow faced whip snakes are mildly venomous, but it's still important to exercise caution and respect their space.(and definitely don't do what I do.)

Shoutout to the students and staff for being so calm and cooperative during the snake hunt!

Remember, snakes are an important part of our ecosystem, and with a little understanding and respect, we can coexist safely.

Removed Red Bellied Black Snake from a cafe in Mount Annan today that had slid between customers feet and then hid under a pot plant when it was time to get the bill.

When we arrived the snake was still trying to dodge the bill by hiding under the pot plant, so it was best to relocate the sneaky guest so the Cafe could continue to serve up some more coffee without the sssssurprise guest.

Remember, snakes can turn up in the most unexpected places, especially as the weather warms up! Always be aware of your surroundings and know who to call if you find an unwanted visitor.

TALK ABOUT A CLOSE ONE!

Yesterday we were called to remove an Eastern Brown Snake from a property in Picton, The home owner had gone to move the bin around and she had felt something hit the side of her leg, after looking down to see what the bump was, she had noticed a brown snake half hanging out from underneath the bin trying to strike at her leg again!
After having a chat and explaining that you don't need to have clear puncture marks to have an envenomation and how symptoms can take hours to become present.
I urged the lady to seek medical attention immediately, and I'm relieved she took my advice. If you're bitten, grazed or even think you may have been bitten by a snake, always err on the side of caution, do first aid and call emergency services ASAP.

Remember, it's always better to be safe than sorry, spend a few hours in hospital to get checked over, get treatment if needed and get your friends and family to visit your bedside, instead of people visiting your casket next week.

PS: our customer spent the night at the hospital and got some tests which came back clear and is now enjoying a nice Sunday arvo.

Some days our job consists of nonstop digging, flooding, pulling apart retaining walls, and lifting logs/rocks looking for snakes. Then there are jobs like this that make up for the hard yards! Yesterday we received a phone call from a business in Gregory Hills to remove a red-bellied black snake that had gone under a witch's hat. On the way there, I was thinking it's not going to be that easy for me. Surely it will move along, and I'll have to chase it around the yard or something. It ended up being just a good snake and staying there to make my day just that little bit easier!

Got an interesting call from a family friend yesterday... She was bushwalking out the back of Campbelltown with her dogs and accidentally stepped on a snake and wated to confirm what it was, turns out it was a DEATH ADDER!

She didn't realize until after she'd already stepped on it. Lucky for us her daughter caught the moment on film. You can see (and hear the F bomb) the moment she realises it is a snake.

After explaining to her how lucky she was not to be bitten, it became a reminder to always carry a first-aid kit with a bandage when bushwalking! In case of a snake bite, having a bandage on hand can help slow down the venom's spread, giving you precious time to get medical help.

Don't take risks, be prepared! Pack a first-aid kit, wear protective clothing, and stay vigilant on the trails. Remember, if you're bitten:
•Stay calm.
•Do not wash bite site or try suck the venom out.
•Call emergency services whilst bandaging the effected limb.
•Keep time of when bite happened.
•Mark bite site on bandage.
•Stay completely still (laying down) untill emergency services arrive.

Here's an interesting one from today! A little corn snake from campbelltown.

Did you know that corn snakes are a prohibited species in Australia? It's crucial to understand the laws and regulations surrounding exotic pets in our country.

Having corn snakes as pets can lead to:

- Fines and penalties
- Seizure of the animal
- Potential harm to native wildlife and ecosystems

Corn snakes are native to North America, and their introduction to Australia could lead to:

- Competition with native species for food and resources
- Predation on endangered species
- Establishment of feral populations

If you're interested in having a snake as a pet, consider choosing a species that is legal and native to Australia.

Remember, responsible pet ownership is essential for the well-being of animals and the protection of our unique Australian environment!

Please note: This poor little fella had given me a nibble as it didn't like being held and to the snake I'm a big bad predator trying to hurt it. Same goes with any snake, most times people get bitten is when you are interacting/harassing the animal.

This morning, we were called out to The Oaks to remove an eastern brown snake from inside a house. The brown snake had made its way inside through the back door, which had been left open to let in the breeze. It's always best to have a screen door or flyscreen in place to help prevent these unwanted guests from wandering in. Another common way they get inside is through the gap underneath doors, which can be easily blocked with weatherstrips from your local hardware store.

A little eastern brown snake we removed from a retirement village in camden recently. This snake was sighted on the front door of one of the units, when we arrived we found the snake foraging through the garden beds about 100metres away from the original sighting.
Sometime these guys get misidentified by the general public as a tiger snake due to their banding seen well in the second picture.

Today we attended to a house in Oran Park to remove an Eastern Brown Snake from a bit of a tricky spot. The snake had made its way under the back step and squeezed into a gap between the brick verandah and the brick pillar. Sometimes we can use a bit of water to help encourage the snake to vacate the hole it is in. Well, today's water attempt had given us a bit of a laugh as instead of coming out of the hole, the snake just decided I was room service and I delivered it a refreshing drink to quench its thirst. After some patience and trying a few different methods, we were able to safely remove the snake.
