What a weekend. Great food, cavies and company. The effort in the kitchen by Sam Melavirta was awesomely delicious, warm hearty chicken and potato bake with salad and everyone drooling over sticky date pudding and pavlova, our lunch table became an opportunity to talk. It was great to connect with others.
Judges training under Karen Nichols NSW and Glenn Macey WA created a wealth of insight and knowledge, and I thank them for their time and patience in training. Also the exhibitors who had to wait while I trained.

A couple of torty bubs looking quite promising. Finally got a split face. Could do with more definite squares - plenty of time to grow into them. Happy with the results. The last photo is of their sire and he is a bit of a lad. He posed himself to show off his shoulder.

Creating Brindles - a work in progress

Pictured are predominantly black cavies - but don't let the colour fool you for 2 reasons. Firstly if you flick back the fur you will see the extent of intermittent red hairs and secondly lineage! To get cavies with brindling so far I have used tortes that weren't quite chequered and had a lot of fuzzy lines. I then thought about removing the patches and gaining more red so did a self red to a fairly brindled boar. This resulted in all the bubs being predominantly of black appearance. You can see the intermittent hairs in the first picture. She has a solid red behind her so knowing what she came from I did a similar mating with a self black to torte. Same result - see second pic. These two are now paired and I will post results as I gain new litters so the progress can be seen. I get excited seeing the results.

So the proud parents had 4 bubs - 3 live and doing well but 2 were curly coated!?!?! Haha always a curve ball thrown in somewhere. One definite keeper for on breeding. Pics of litter added
