☎️ TAHMOOR CLINIC PHONES ☎️
It has come to our attention that the tahmoor clinic number will ring out, even when none of the phone lines are in use. 😑

The telephone line has been a constant issue for many months with neither broadband, or the national provider wanting to take responsibility for a dodgey connection. 📞

If you cannot get through at TAHMOOR, please contact our THIRLMERE clinic on 46818470, and we can book you in for whichever clinic you desire.

- In Memory of Dr Katelyn Walker -

Our Katelyn passed away on the 2nd of February 2023 after a long and brave battle with ovarian cancer.

Katelyn gave so much love and support to her family, friends, colleagues, and clients in her lifetime. She lived her life with care and kindness front of mind - not only towards her family and friends, but also for creatures great and small - always with a smile on her face with her infectious laugh.

Katelyn expressed compassion and benevolence to everyone, including her veterinary clients and their pets. She dedicated her life to helping, putting pet care above her own, working all hours to find the best treatments for her patients and their loving owners.

Her family will carry her ethics in their hearts and are inspired by the legacy which she has left - that is to help others, always with kindness and care.

She will be remembered by so many people whose lives she touched personally and professionally; for her warmth, generosity, genuine nature, dedication, and passion for happy healthy pets.

From her 3 loving children, James, Henry and Matilda Walker

‼️Important warning‼️ There is a nationwide shortage of the critical tick antitoxin that vets use to treat paralysis tick. The wetter conditions have resulted in very large tick numbers and spread to new areas.

It’s vital that pets are on good tick preventatives. No product is 100% guarantee however we have seen good protection from the products we stock. Call us to discuss

The image shows key features of paralysis ticks. They are deadly and are different to bush and cattle ticks.

Friday Fact:
Don’t forget – August is ! We have seen an increase of tick cases present to the hospital recently and wanted to remind all pet parents to keep up to date with tick prevention and look out for any of the below signs of possible tick paralysis.

Remember to do regular tick searches through your pet’s fur, if you happen to find any ticks, early detection is important! 🐾

Two weeks ago three frightened Golden youngsters arrived at HQ. As they were friends from the same breeding facility they were named Joey, Chandler and Phoebe.

Today it was Phoebe’s turn to visit the vet to be desexed. As Phoebe has not allowed anyone to get within a few feet of her since her arrival a great deal of thought went into getting this girl into a car and then to walk into the vet surgery. Thank goodness for Deb who is not only house and dog sitter at HQ but the go to person for help when dealing with a difficult situation. Phoebe was frightened to be on lead and it took two people but they managed to walk her to the car without incident and it was a two person job to ease this girl into the back of the car. Once in the car Phoebe settled and on arrival at the vet it was another major effort to get this frightened girl into the surgery.

Many thanks for the kindness and understanding shown by everyone at The Caring Country Vet, Tahmoor as Phoebe was encouraged into the surgery and onto the scales. It was at this point that Phoebe’s carer took the opportunity to reach out and touch this frightened golden girl. Phoebe leaned away but did not pull away and allowed her head, her ears and her whole body to be stroked until she was given a sedative before being placed in a crate awaiting desexing. This was Phoebe’s first touch from her carer since her arrival into care and now that she knows no harm will come to her, the work with her can begin and Phoebe will be on her way her to become the dog she was always meant to be.

Making decisions about rugging is much easier when you realise just how different horses are from humans. The temperature range where we feel comfortable (our thermoneutral zone) is much higher and narrower than horses.

In general, horses are comfortable between 5-25℃, whilst humans are comfortable between 25-30℃. That means that we feel cold before horses do, but horses feel hot before we do.
