Christmas is less than a week away 🥳 - we are 🔹closed 🔹for the Public Holidays and have skeleton staff over the next 2 weeks so that everyone is able to get home to visit their families during the festive season 🎄 🎅🏻

There is ONE vet on call for 🚨EMERGENCIES 🚨both for large animal and small animal clients - so please be mindful of this. If you are not able to get through, the vet may be already dealing with an emergency, so please leave a message and they will get back to you as soon as possible.

Don’t forget to check your medication and prescription food levels to avoid running out over the next few weeks!

💊 Have you checked your pet’s medication or prescription food supplies recently? 💊

With suppliers closing down over Christmas and to avoid your pet running out of medications during the holiday season, please organise a repeat script in the next week so we will be able to organise these for you 😊

Please phone 02 6071 2954 for Tallangatta or 02 6027 3221 for Kiewa 🎅🏻

🔥 With the hot weather forecast in the next few days, please remember to avoid the hottest part of the day with your pets - they suffer from heat stroke too! 🔥

Heat stroke is a serious and potentially fatal condition.

Unlike humans, dogs are unable to sweat so rely on panting as explorative cooling. However, when the outdoor temperature is the same as body temperature 🥵 this proves ineffective and requires a lot of work, which can increase their body temperature again.

Keep your pets cool! 😎
Stay safe

Some tips for keeping your pets cool:
🧊 ice blocks in water bowl
🧊 lots of water access
🧊 shade, fans or in air conditioning for the hottest part of the day
🧊 go for a walk in the early morning when cool and pavement isn’t hot
🧊 running under the sprinkler, hosing off, swim in the dam (or weir!), paddle in a clam shell with water
🧊 avoid hot tin trays on the ute and other hot surfaces (pavement)

Grass seed season is well and truly upon us!
Daisy presented due to a sore eye.
With some local eye drops and sedation we were able to retrieve this whopper of a seed wedged right in behind Daisy's third eyelid! Here is Daisy recovering from her sedation, and the culprit seed.

Seeds lodge in all sorts of places including eyes, ears and between toes so make sure you check these areas, as well as their coats, daily.

Found a baby bird and don’t know what to do? This flow chart may help! 🐦

Unless there is an injury, please leave fledglings alone even if found on the ground. Often they are learningto fly and the parents are close by keeping them safe. Some birds will abandon their offspring if taken away, despite our best efforts to return them. If you are worried they are an easy target, you can move them into some bushes for the parents to protect.

If the baby bird is injured, place in a box with a towel with food/water and bring into the clinic. Alternatively phone RSPCA for advice.

Have you met Dr Brooke yet?

Brooke is our newest member of our close knit team, and originates all the way from the Eyre Peninsula, SA (but we won’t hold that against her!). She is a very caring and passionate vet, and we would like to welcome her to our community 🙏🏻

You may see Brooke on farm or in the clinic, she enjoys the variety of what mixed practice brings - no day is ever the same! ☺️

We would like to congratulate Maggie Mac the Westie on becoming a mum for the first time!

She is giving Dr Chelsea a big cuddle after her pregnancy x-ray to confirm the number of puppies the week before she went into labour 💕

This week, we celebrate and appreciate our vet tech and vet nurses - for the varied roles throughout the day, going the extra mile for our clients, and that special care for our hospital and surgical patients. We wouldn’t function without you.

We are very lucky to have such a great group of nurses, who work hard but also are lots of fun!

Thank you ❤️
From all the vets 🙏🏻

P.S. there is a surprise for them at the end of the week 😬

KISSES!

Love from Jett and Twistie (Tori and Danni’s horses) 💋💋

Monday fun fact: horses hearts are quite large - it is approximately 1% of their body weight!

So a standard 500kg horse has a heart that is about 5kg 🤓
