While I’m busy laying their wool around the veggie patch the flock are pruning the citrus trees & cleaning up the weeds in our newly fenced paddock. We’ve had good rain & sunshine so everything is blooming. The wool will help to keep weeds at bay in the garden & the moisture in the ground. Sheep are just the best helpers on acreage, an absolute pleasure to manage and great company.

Hans, Mikey & Calico we’re feeling so happy for being shorn that they approached Stewart to express their gratitude. Since he doesn’t often handle them they would not normally do this but yesterday they had plenty of affection for him.

I love the mornings at this time of year. The lambs are all strong enough to feed independently of their mums. My bottle fed ewe, Tully insists on being hand fed her pellets but the other lambs all barge their way into the feed buckets.
Its lovely to watch how tolerant & gentle the adults are with the babies, especially our two rams.
Mum’s -Tawny & Tabby are great mates & share the load. Tawny has triplets but Tabby who lost her ram lamb supplement feeds Tawny’s ram lamb, Tassie, & I bottle feed Tully & between us everyone is thriving.
I’m sure the time will come when it will be every man for himself but for now they’re a very tight, co-operative little family🩷🩷

Still waiting…….

I’m glad though as the weather is now perfect with warm temps & no precipitation other than heavy dews.

Im thinking that my two rams who are first time Dad’s were slow learners as it must have taken them more than two weeks to figure out how to get the girls pregnant.

We got tired of waiting for labour to start so the girls have been given a day leave pass to graze the overgrown try own garden terraces with the boys. And they’re loving it with loads of edible ground covers & weeds & shrubs & the odd flower. Happy sheep😄

Our Tawny has put herself into the maternity shed tonight as it’s raining here. Sensible girl. I’ll be keeping a very close eye on her tonight as she’s quite obviously ready to pop & last year we had to detangle her three lambs & help them into the world. I’m praying that she has a much easier delivery this year.

A bit of push & shove from Hans & Mikey. Both are very eagerly awaiting their treat of a handful of pellets.

Mikey at almost seven months old is looking more and more cute. Often as the lambs develop they loose the adorable compact look but Mikey is showing more of the classic babydoll traits, It’s still early days but he’s still short & compact, with a nice broad forehead, short from eye to nose and with little ears. I can see more & more of his dad Yancey in him.

Little Hilda and her big sister Jilly today flew the nest and landed on a lush five acre farm under the watchful eye of their new owner Linda.
Linda was very happy to welcome her new pets and her first sheep. Thanks for opening your heart to our girls Linda.

Very sad day for us today as we had to say farewell to our most affectionate, docile and sweet home bred stud ram. We take comfort in knowing that he’s going to a home with Robert Drewitt, where he’ll be well loved and have a good sized harem of ewes, many more than he had access to on our little property.
Love you Jack🧡

Jack’s lambs (all but one) are heading off to greener pastures soon and as much as I’d love to keep him, Jack will be looking for a new home too. It will be very hard to say goodbye to him & we’ll certainly miss his sweet, gentle morning greetings.

We’re very pleased with how our home grown flock are developing. The two lambs in the foreground are 8 weeks old & little miss wrinkly is 15 weeks. The girl to her left has grown into a beautiful young ewe & is now 15 months old. We’re looking forward to seeing her with her own lamb next year.

Newborn twins for Tabby the wonder girl who survived tick paralysis a couple of months back.
We are really grateful that she has delivered a boy as well as a girl because their Dad, Yancey, is currently missing from home.
We believe that Yancey who has never before left his electric fenced paddock, was spooked by a dog who came onto our property in the early hours of the morning three weeks ago.
We are praying that he’s still safe & just lost in the neighbouring vegetation & will turn up eventually to meet his new lambs.
