Due to a high demand on both fresh lion’s mane and grow kit, you’ll probably see less lion’s mane at the Green Shed.
We are also experiencing low yield at the moment so we’re working on correcting the core issue.
There are some improvements but still the yield is not as much as we hoped for. More tweaking and waiting, otherwise plan B.
We know how much you guys enjoy the lion’s mane mushrooms, so we’ll work hard to produce more.
More exciting news coming up next month!

Pioppino mushroom grow kit trial
We are experimenting different box options and the growing environment. Everyone’s home environment is different, some will have more moisture in the air naturally, some will not. Over spraying some varieties will be okay, some varieties like lion’s mane will not tolerate.
It’s been interesting to watch these pioppino mushrooms growing in an indoor setting. We have been using a dehumidifier pretty much all day and you can see the last couple photos they look quite dry and even some cracks appear. You can also see at the last photo they passed the prime harvesting time so looking quite dry and woody.
We’ll update once we’re confident of the new release, this is another great variety for kids to observe. Stay tuned.

We’ve received great feedback from our customers, pink oysters are doing incredibly well!
Pink oysters are very fast growing, almost invasive. Once they start to pin, they will be ready within 3-4 days when other oyster mushrooms sometimes take 4-5 days til harvest. Ours has already had second flushing, now we’re waiting for the third.
🍄🟫 Some important tips about harvesting mushrooms
# Scenario 1
When you harvest, just gently twist or pull, usually this is an indication of their readiness. If you feel some resistance, they might need some time to grow a bit more.
#Scenario 2
If you see a white powdery film around where you locate the box, they’ve passed the prime stage and are starting to spread the spore. Mushrooms are still edible but quite likely won’t last that long in the fridge. We always encourage people to eat when the mushrooms are fresh, because that’s the best!
#Scenario 3
I’ve located the kit on the windowsill for the maximum sunlight for the mushrooms because they need the sunlight, right?
Ah…🙂↔️
Mushrooms need filtered light meaning NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT! Sorry to scream but I’ve heard this story so many times…😭
Direct sun and the heat from the window(especially in hotter months) discourage the mushrooms’ growth.
You’re nurturing them with 3 major aspects - moisture, comfortable range of temperature(15-27 degrees, depending on the variety)and light. The rest is already in the kit sorted by us 😉
🍄🟫 Cooking ideas? 🍄🟫
The best way to cook pink oysters is pan frying until golden and crispy. Oil or butter, salt& pepper and garlic if you desire. I know it’s tempting but don’t stir too much. Cook about 5 min, medium to low heat.
Pink is quite firm in texture and has a very different taste profile. Some say seafood like or bacon. How on earth? Well, if you cook them like any other oyster mushrooms, say stir fry, you’ll definitely taste some seafood-fish taste.
