www.arcadianbulldogs.com.au OUR STORY
Arcadian Bulldogs is a small boutique hobby kennel located in SE Queensland Australia, our selected dogs in our program are our pets first and foremost and live free range during the day and kennelled by night on our large acreage property. We enjoy spending many hours with our dogs each day, interacting, playing and maintaining them in a safe and stimulating

environment to ensure they are getting what they need physically and mentally.

Before our passion started for the Southern Cross Bulldogs and Australian Bulldogs we were registered breeders of Dogue De Bordeaux (French Mastiff) after the devastating loss of our prize winning stud to a brown snake bite we changed directions and quickly fell in love with the compact size of the bulldog but the soft nature and characteristics of the mastiff that make up the Aussie and Southern Cross Bulldogs. We are 100% dedicated with the aim of well put together bulldogs to contribute towards both foundation breeds with the purpose of becoming a future ANKC recognised breed. Even though we love our rare colours and specialise in this we aim for structure and health first.

We are experienced breeders that are dedicated to bettering the breed with intentions of breeding each generation better than the last. Our main objective is to provide healthy stock in our chosen breeds with the future goal of being a part of a national purebred breed recognition. Our ethics as breeders are drawn from the same principles and standards in place for registered purebred breeders, we have adopted the same practices from our past days of breeding Dogue De Bordeaux and carried them over to our current program. We have worked closely with the same vets for the past 15 years to continually learn about all things dogs and breeding related, we are constantly learning and adapting our program to the things learnt in order to better ourselves as breeders and animal owners. The health and welfare of our pets are first and foremost with our focus being on the best care and maintenance for them. Aussie Bulldog:

Southern Cross Bulldog:

Southern Cross Bulldog Since 2007
Breed Standard & History
HISTORY
The Southern Cross Bulldog is becoming more widely recognized by the general public as a slightly larger, heavier b***d version of the Australian Bulldog. The breed was originally created and named in 2007 by Noel and Tina Green. Their vision was to develop a blue line of bulldogs in Australia from mastiff origins. The aim was to produce a large sized dog of bully type well suited to the Australian climate, drawing on both the charm and personality of the British Bulldog and the majestic and noble strength of the mastiff breeds, but improving on general health and functionality. Foundation bi***es used have mostly included Neapolitan Mastiff and Dogue De Bordeaux for their size and structure, and then have been put back to pedigreed British Bulldog males to enhance the desired bulldog type and nature. The Catahoula x Dane line was used to introduce the Merle pattern. This line crossed back to a British Bulldog then eventually mixes with a mastiff Southern Cross Line. All Southern Cross Bulldogs lines should be traceable back to the original breeds used, and therefore the percentage of each breed involved can be broken down. The ideal breed percentage to maintain type is 70-80% British Bulldog. CHARACTERISTICS & TEMPERAMENT
The Southern Cross Bulldog is a well b***d, muscular, large sized dog with a powerful build showing strength. Body should be slightly longer than height at withers. The head large with a short face and broad muzzle, but should not display overly exaggerated features. Some loose fitting skin over body and head permitted, not to be excessive. The general appearance and attitude should convey an impression of nobility, loyalty and intelligence. Bi***es have identical characteristics as males but less pronounced. A proud looking dog when viewed with expression and exhibits a trustworthy and enduring disposition, should never show aggression towards people. Great family companion seeking love and affection from owners, not at all suited to being a backyard only dog. Enjoys activity, however a lot of exercise is not required. Laid back, easy going nature, while having good watch dog abilities but is not known to be a barker unless provoked. Enjoys water yet is not always an adept swimmer due to physical build. The Southern Cross Bulldog lifespan should live to 10 or more years. HEAD & SKULL
Head type to be large with broad short skull, broad across cheeks. Head proportions: skull length two thirds, to muzzle one third. 1 to 3 loose folds across the nose but in no way excessively wrinkled. The stop should be deep and defined, dividing the head vertically and being traceable to the top of the skull, with the distance from the stop to the nose long enough for unhindered breathing. Nostrils should be wide and large, with a well-defined line between them. Black, liver/chocolate and blue colours all accepted, with full pigment covering nose and inside nostrils is preferred, pink spotting undesirable. MOUTH
The jaws should be strong and well developed, reverse scissor bite or up to 10mm ‘undershot’, preferably no greater. Flews are relatively broad and hanging over lower jaw at each side but should not be excessive in size and mouth should not be excessively loose. The teeth should be large and strong, with the canine teeth wide apart, and the six incisors between the canines, in an even, level row. Teeth should not be seen protruding from the mouth, rye mouths are a fault. EYES
Clean eyes, set forward and well apart, should be of moderate size, and neither sunken nor bulging. The lids should cover the white of the eyeball, when the dog is looking directly forward, and the lid should show no visible haw. Rim pigmentation to tone with nose colour. Any shade of colour acceptable but should be reflective of coat and nose colour. Free of any obvious eye problems. EARS
The ears are to be set forward, high and well apart, small for size of head. Buttoned or forward ears giving a square appearance are preferred, they should be triangular, hanging flat towards cheeks, but not reaching beyond line of throat. Rose ears accepted but undesirable. ‘Flying ears’ highly undesirable and ears should never be carried erect. NECK
Moderate in length, thick, deep and strong. Well arched at the back, with loose skin forming dewlap on either side. FOREQUARTERS
Chest should be broad and well muscled, ribcage reaching at least to the elbow. Shoulders are broad, but have good length. Forelegs powerful and straight, not bandy or curved, well b***d and set wide apart presenting a straight front. The feet should be oval, close, with arched toes. The front feet should orientate straight. Excessively splayed feet undesirable. BODY
Good length of back, not short as it restricts movement. Body length should be slightly longer than height. Should slightly taper at withers and have a nice straight topline. HINDQUARTERS
Strong and muscular. Thighs should have good length, moderate stifle, powerful hocks. Hips may be slightly narrower than shoulders, but not excessively so. The hind feet should be slightly smaller than front and also orientate straight. TAIL
Thick at root, set on slightly lower than topline. Tapering towards the tip. Never carried up or over back, but may be carried level with topline when moving. Straight (long or short), crank and screw tails acceptable, but tight screws undesirable. Long tails should be in overall balance with the rest of the dog. Untapering tails undesirable. GAIT
In movement the gait denotes gracefulness with power of strength. Drive from the back legs with the forelegs tracking smoothly with good reach and balance. COAT
Short, dense, even, hard in texture. COLOUR
All colours and coat patterns accepted. SIZE
Dogs: 48-56cm (19-22”), 34-42kg
Bi***es: 46-53cm (18-21”), 32-40kg
